  1. A political rant with verifiable claims. Agree, America and the rest of the world is looking at economic chaos. A guy who has 7 business bankruptcies behind him, running the world's biggest economy - what could go wrong?
  2. They only want the photo page, side by side with a copy of your passbook balance. I did not get a receipt. It would be a matter of repeating the exercise, if the first did not take.
  3. So having an energy secretary with the IQ of a turnip, in charge of the safekeeping of millions of litres of radioactive waste, does not concern you. Trump voters are really going to get the government they deserve. Tighten your jockstrap, increased cost of living, reduced welfare checks and healthcare, RFK in charge of the nation's dental health. A sh!tshow for the next four years, self-inflicted.
  4. The counter-attack has already begun: https://www.thenewdaily.com.au/news/world/us-news/trump-news/2024/11/27/mexico-trade-tariff-response
  5. AI with a short attention span speaks to who created it.
  6. Trump is going to impose tariffs of 25% on imports from Canada and Mexico, from Day One. 35% on imports from China. I would like an intelligent Trump supporter to explain to me the following: 1/ How this policy will not cause the cost of living to rise in America, with consequent inflation. 2/ How this policy will not provoke retaliatory actions from those countries, making American exports less competitive.
  7. I took the FATCA form in. I did not include the IRS forms, not American. Some puzzlement from the staff, they phoned head office. Asked me if I had received an email from Kasikorn, answer yes. They checked the form, took a photocopy of my passport and savings book together. Finish. I included the number from my Thai pink card. I did not include my Australian tax number, or any address in Australia.
  8. The solution should be obvious to any red-blooded American. Smith and Wesson, or a Desert Eagle.
  9. This is an example of the secondhand modern Toyotas one can see all over Yangon, big and luxurious. Due to strict environmental licensing in Japan, it's prohibitive to keep a car there for more than 2 or 3 years. Smart countries import them quite cheaply. The junta in 2020? decreed LHD vehicles only, so they are no longer imported. I guess that means Myanmar has joined the dumb countries. Australia being one of them.
  10. I can remember remarking there seemed to be no motorbikes in Yangon, only to be told the junta had banned them for fear of assassination. The junta also decreed vehicles should drive on the right, to shed the links with its British colonial past. Then stopped the importation of cheap second hand right-hand drive vehicles from Japan. So now there's a mix of RHD and LHD cars driving on the RHS, in what can only be described as a cluster you know what. Many fond memories of the Burmese people, their wages are a third of what they earn working in Thailand. Aung Sang Suu Khy is still deeply revered, referred to as "The Lady". A lot of intermarriage of Indians and Burmese in Yangon, the mix produces some stunningly beautiful women. Photo is one of the oldest Toyotas I have seen, I think pre WWII.
  11. Not forever, 12 good years.
  12. My GF and I are always taken to be man and wife. Married once, no desire to repeat. She is well provided for when I die. IMO the reason Thai women are attractive is that they have retained their femininity.
  13. Why not? Happy for my heirs to share the winnings.
  14. That's been happening ever since nonionic surfactants came onto the market, does not matter whether the government was Democrat or Republican.
  15. My day would not be complete without your little ray of sunshine.
  16. Tramadol. Available at pharmacies without a prescription. It is addictive, so use carefully. IME 10-12 hours free of back pain.
  17. IMO Americans are still not adult enough to elect a woman as President. I wish them luck with Trump, they will need it.
  18. I envisage a flood of expats inundating Kasikorn branches tomorrow, dealing with bewildered bank staff. Deadline is December 20, plenty of time to see what shakes out.
  19. In your occupation, you are probably used to seeing sick 80 year olds, and don't realize there are healthy ones as well.
  20. Very helpful information, thank you. Interesting Kasikorn has anticipated online security concerns. That's assuming she was not telling you what she thought you wanted to hear.
  21. The use of caps in the email address looks dodgy.
  22. Two of the forms relate to the American IRS only. The other form repeatedly asks whether one is an American citizen. I will only be filling out the form with the Kasikorn logo top RH corner.
  23. I put the decline in writing down to social media, where any cretin can post their inchoate babblings.
  24. I keep mostly to myself. No-one is interested in the multiple health crises I have had, no point to discussing them. No interest in bars. I try to stick to my exercise routines and diet, to stay healthy.
  25. Hamburgers, sausages etc. have one major flaw - only the maker knows what's in them. Processed meats are inherently less healthy than straight pork, beef, chicken or fish.
