  3. IIRC you claimed EV batteries did not contain environmentally toxic elements such as nickel, cobalt, fluorine and aluminium. However, they still have environmentally toxic fluorine in the electrolyte, plus aluminium and phosphorus. IMO your claim in the face of that evidence is stupid and factually inaccurate.
  4. JHC, you really must bruise yourself jumping to conclusions. My 45 years experience was in Australia, in diverse fields such as detergents, polymers, glass, mining and steel. I did work here in Thailand as a technical consultant for some weeks, it was one of the experiences influencing my decision to retire here.

  8. Disagree. Any idiot can make a profit if they can get away with flushing unwanted materials in recycling down the sewer, or sending to landfill. It's when the recycling becomes a closed loop, with zero emissions, that the costs of recovery soar. 99% of the lead in lead - acid batteries is recycled. What do you think they do with the spent acid? That's a far less complex system than lithium.
  9. You just don't get it, do you? It's a question of scale. In my younger days as a chemist, I synthesized nitroglycerine. About 0.5 millilitres of it. i followed the instructions exactly. That does not mean I felt competent or experienced enough to start making litres of it. The deflection seems to be coming from you. In referring to Li-ion fires, where I am specifically asking if you have fought a EV fire. I doubt you ever have, because I am reasonably sure you would be describing the experience in detail.
  10. Yes you did. There's a bit of a difference between a p!ssant lithium battery in a smartphone, and the 75 kWh a Tesla is packing. That's where my BS radar is on full alert.

  12. According to the stats, an EV fire is 60 times less likely to occur than an ICE fire. Another stat says EV's worldwide are 18% of vehicles in 2023. IMO it's fair to assume older vehicles are more prone to fires. Those three facts cause me to doubt your statement you have "lots of experience". Anyone can make claims behind a keyboard.
  13. You fail to answer my question: Have you extinguished an EV fire yourself? Until you do, your extensive experience in fire fighting means nothing. Please do some proofreading of your posts. I don't think you meant to say "almost 40 years of hands on real INEXPERIENCE". Have a good day, and try not to embarrass yourself further.
  14. n Indeed. Tell me what is wrong with asking what contractual obligations BYD have to take back EV batteries at the end of their service life. I have worked in 5 different industries over 45 years. They all had one thing in common, their breaches of environmental obligations, to the point some crossed the line into criminality. Several even had the regulatory authorities colluding with them. If you believe a Chinese car manufacturer or offshoot battery recycling operation is going to be squeaky clean with 100% compliance, there's a bridge in Sydney Harbor I'd like to sell you.

  16. I learned to be cynical about so-called professional bodies a long time ago. One example is a pharmaceutical company testing an experimental drug on mice, that reported the mice were visually impaired. The statement was code for the mice being born without eyes. It's "scientific research" and " accept facts and data". You don't do your credibility much good with those syntax errors. There's one information source making the vague claim ICE and EV fires burn at similar temperatures. Another source stating specific combustion temperatures of both. I know which data source I prefer. Have you extinguished an EV fire yourself? Dunning-Kruger effect indeed.

The chemistry of a LI battery is LiFePO4, i.e. 4 atoms of oxygen for every atom of lithium. In other words, a lithium fire has its own oxygen supply. When I see official bodies publishing data or claims that don't make sense, the question becomes - who funded the research?
  19. I flew Thai Air Melbourne to Bangkok about a year ago. I'd have to say the cabin staff were far better at customer service than Jetstar.

Post your proof BYD batteries are not toxic, and they do not contain environmental contaminants such as nickel, phosphorus, cobalt, aluminium copper etc. If you are mug enough to believe a link published by a EV battery manufacturer, with a vested interest in brandishing their purported environmental credentials, there's not much more to say.
