The Battle of Britain occurred more than 80 years ago, two and a half years before I was born. After it was won, Hitler had to fight a war on two fronts. History would probably have been very different if he had not. The only ways for generations now to see this world-changing event are via film, or air museums. IMO the Battle of Britain is one of the best war films ever made. A classic which has lost none of its lustre. It has authenticity, even down to employing Adolf Galland, a Luftwaffe air general, as one of the technical consultants. The cast was studded with actors that were already screen legends, complemented by those who went on to become legends themselves. The musical composition fits perfectly. I have watched this film many times. The ending never fails to bring tears to my eyes.

Seriously How Gullible Are Thai People?
Lacessit replied to NONG CHOK's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
What proportion of Thai people fit the criteria you describe? Put up some statistics before you start calling my post nonsense. I don't doubt there are some Thais who are well travelled, and competent. My car mechanic is one of them. I have not been in a bar for about 8 years. I suggest you get out of whatever ivory tower you lay your hat in, and travel to the real Thailand. Such as my GF's village, where the average wage is 3000 baht/month. -
Seriously How Gullible Are Thai People?
Lacessit replied to NONG CHOK's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Thai education is not the same as Western education, it's all about rote learning and obedience to authority. I'll wager there is not one in a thousand Thais who understand statistics, probability, and risk assessment. I think some understand the concept of an appreciating asset, judging by the number of gold shops in Thailand. Fortunately, my GF is level-headed about money. I have drummed into her debt is to be avoided like the plague. -
Somebody is found with a slit throat, and foul play is only suspected? Comical headline.

There was a study many years ago in The Economist which demonstrated the number of children a woman bears is inversely proportional to her level of education. It's difficult to apply the yardstick in Thailand.

Pensioners don't have to work. Cleaners do.

I did not realize the wages of a hospital cleaner are so good the OP can afford to flit between Australia and Thailand.

I have a son in Australia, I will be staying with him for six weeks shortly. We talk on Whatsapp when we feel the need. I have a Thai family here, and will miss them when I am in Australia. If you are trying to fit me onto some Procrustean bed of guilt and past suffering, there isn't any. I am smiling at your faux sympathy. Thailand is an economic choice for me. My standard of living is streets ahead of what I would have in Australia, which has become insanely expensive. You should know.

Possibility 1 The story is fictitious. Possibility 2 The guy in the washroom with the quivering hands is GG. Possibility 3 The event is as described. IMO we are getting more and more idiotic OP's on ASEAN.

Why do you post on the Farang Pub?
Lacessit replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
What we need is some old-fashioned Scots dominies to teach English. My English teacher was a direct descendant of Rob Roy McGregor. I still remember his tours through English Literature. John Buchan's Midwinter, and Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. I don't know why I post on the Farang Pub. I think I have masochistic tendencies. -
Complicated scenario of abuse, passports and marriage
Lacessit replied to Na Fan's topic in General Topics
IMO probably better she stays in Thailand or Laos, makes it more difficult for the ex-husband to find her. Violent males sometimes go further, to murder. I'll wager there are quite a few marriages here at the amphur level, where previous marriages are swept under the carpet. -
Noisiest Trees in Thailand: Plop, Plop, Plop!
Lacessit replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Where I live in Australia, the trees are noisy because they lose branches. On average, one tree per year falls over the road. We have winds there, anywhere between 20 and 100 km/hr. It affects putting on exposed greens. Fruit in the orchards usually gets picked before it can fall. -
Interesting. For city work as a delivery vehicle, IMO ideal. Of course, the Thai predilection for exceeding load limits by substantial margins would affect range.

Is there an EV pickup option on the market yet? What other options do you have in mind?

Farang's reputation for attacking Thai women in Thailand.
Lacessit replied to Goat's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
There are men who treat women as objects in all societies. Sad but true. I have always operated on the principle if my attentions are unwelcome, I walk away. -

Now, now Trans. We are not all cut from the same cloth. Although I must admit to having a recent exchange with a car rental manager. I think he's angling to remake "Fawlty Towers" with an Australian flavor. -
Debit card scam
Lacessit replied to Lacessit's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Update: The fraud department of my bank has classified the three Uber Eats transactions as fraudulent, based on evidence provided by me. The manager of the car rental business is refunding my $100. His email to me I thought was very funny, as it demonstrated his approach to customer relations. Quote: Mr ########### You obviously have nothing to do. You have a Gmail Account which asks for credit card numbers and must have other accounts. Your personal details have been compromised in Thailand whilst searching for Car hire in Australia. I am not going to entertain you any further. Your deposit will be refunded. Good Luck. -
Under Thai law, assets acquired after the marriage are divided equally between the two parties. Assets acquired before marriage stay with whoever brought them in. Unless the OP is planning on marrying again, do nothing. Let her be the one to go through the process. Every time the OP attempts to communicate with her, it validates her behavior.
