  1. I would attempt to find the owner. Failing that, I would hand it in to the police. They can choose if they want to be thieves, I'm not.
  2. My GF buys shirts, trousers etc. for me in the secondhand shops. If they don't fit perfectly, there's a seamstress in the village to make them so. She has a good eye for top shelf brands, it's amazing what people discard after wearing once or twice. She loves shopping, can spend 5 or 6 hours in a store with a friend who is similarly inclined.
  3. Most Thais would probably prefer to grind it up themselves. Supply and demand.
  4. A great interviewer, his 3-celebrity format was always entertaining. Billy Connolly and Barry Humphries were memorable. RIP.
  5. Ironic, because one of America's most cherished institutions has many socialist features and dependency - the US military.
  6. 15 plus emoticons, IMO you nailed it.
  7. Left-wing is a perception thing. Americans react to the term socialism as if it is another form of leprosy, whereas there are other nations that periodically elect socialist governments with no fuss. The most interesting aspect of this thread for me is the number of posters I see in grayscale, who have made it onto my ignore list.
  8. AFAIK making an extract of the leaves with boiling water is legal.
  9. Kratom is legal in Thailand. IMO whether it is leaf or powder should not matter.
  10. Most sales people I encounter in these stores have little technical knowledge of the products they sell, except upselling is always good. I remember a salesman in the same brand store who tried to convince me I needed a 40,000 BTU air conditioner for a 35 sqm condo. Funnily enough, my GF was the first to lose patience, and walked out.
  11. Liver cirrhosis has no respect for anyone. Neither does a portal shunt.
  12. The medication approach would probably fly. I have never been a big drinker. The last two years, I was probably averaging a glass of wine or a Scotch and Coke twice a week. I quit entirely in February this year. I went on to medication which requires 7 glasses of water a day. I'd be beyond stupid putting alcohol on top of what my kidneys and liver are coping with. I can't say I miss alcohol, although IMO a steak cries out for a glass of shiraz to go with it.
  13. Damn. I am going to miss target practice.
  14. Depends on the size of the bar girl and the customer.
  15. My experience with London cab drivers was always good. They got me to my desired destination with a minimum of fuss. OTOH, I don't think NYC cab drivers knew very much about keeping their vehicles clean on the inside. Or their personal hygiene. They may well have known a lot about life. One of them informed me he had recently been released from a mental hospital, which did not give me confidence in his competence. He drove like a maniac, as if to prove his former accommodations.
  16. I would find another landlord. Too old to put up with BS. I self-actualized about 3 years ago.
  17. I don't want to hurt my GF's feelings with criticism.
  18. Food, shelter and a co-operative woman. Good health is a bonus.
  19. Option 3 is to sort it out when I get back early September.
  20. 0.35 is inebriated to what is described as stumbling drunk. I did not realise her BAC was so high.
  21. One could argue the same label applies to George Bush or Obama. It still doesn't explain what karma has to do with criminality.
  22. Different circumstances, that's Thais with Thais. Doesn't seem to apply with foreigner-Thai. You may be right. However, flirting stops as soon as I mention I already have a Thai GF.
  23. Getting married once is OK. More than once, it means you're a slow learner.
