  1. You said in your OP you were quoted $2900. You did not say anything about a gap. I would agree $5800 for the procedure is excessive. However, IMO you are now bullsh!tting.
  2. You can't admit you were wrong, can you? Personal vehicles are not 23% of global CO2 emissions. Show me data that says they are. You have the gall to talk about intelligent debate and facts, when in this instance you have neither.
  3. It is doubtful creditors would be chasing her to another country. It would have to be a huge sum to justify the expense. Although there may be court orders waiting for her if/when she returns to Thailand. Or debt collectors, who are not known for being nice people. It took my GF about two years to earn my trust, I suggest you apply the same time frame.
  4. Nooooo. There are only 940 million cattle in the world. We humans number 8.1 billion. We breathe out CO2 just like they do. AFAIK cattle do not drive cars, or have log fires. Besides which, we fart on average 17 times a day. If we wanted to really address the problem, we should all be burning our toast in the morning, so the charcoal could absorb those pesky intestinal gases.
  5. The price the OP was quoted in Australia is not excessive. The clinic the dentist rents in Australia, and the receptionists/assistants they pay for, are considerably more expensive than what would be paid in Thailand. It does not matter to me. My private health fund in Australia pays half my dental expenses, so the cost of dentistry there and in Thailand comes out the same.
  6. OK, what was it the Soviets did not understand, that caused the breakup? Hint: Russian GDP in 1988 was $550 billion, US GDP in the same year was 5.2 trillion.
  7. It's a figure calculated by John Cadogan. I could find the video if I wanted to waste my time for you. I don't. The transportation sector includes everything - aircraft, trains, shipping, heavy haulage. I specifically said ICE vehicles being replaced by EV's, which most reasonable people would take to mean passenger vehicles. In your rush to dump on me, you forgot to parse the data. Try to do better next time.
  8. There's no proof. There is a lot of rumor. Anyone seeing Trump with Putin at Helsinki saw monumental @ss-kissing. Effectively, you are approving the genocide of Ukrainians. That makes you one sick and twisted person, goodbye.
  9. You may be right, America is a highly polarised society. And a sick one, when it has gun laws that enable said murders of children. Trump is a bully, all bullies are cowards. IMO he would fold like a wet tissue if jailed. Remember, this is the guy that got out of military service due to "bone spurs". They don't seem to impede his golf.
  10. It may have been a technical failure. However, it also was a considerable factor in the breakup of the Soviet Union.
  11. It's better than none at all, which is what you have posted.
  12. It is part of the problem. Another is while rural locations are cheaper to live in, banks, doctors and pharmacies are difficult to hold on to in small towns. Particularly medicos.
  13. There's an aged-care facility off the 118 heading out from Chiang Mai, past Doi Saket. I understand it is run by a Swiss company. 90,000 baht/month, will that do?
  14. While we are doing the what-aboutism, how do you know the age pension will not be exempted from the resident-non-resident determination of tax status?
  15. My advice would be to marry a Thai, if they are not married already. Then they would only be taking a very small hit in terms of Thai taxation. What's yours, slash their wrists?
  16. No doubt our resident prophet of doom will be along, appending links to proposals which are not legislated. IMO there is a lot of detail yet to be worked out in the Thai tax system. For example, I could draw down on the capital of my investments and cash on deposit in Australia, bank the pension I get in Australia, and there would be nothing the RD could lay claim to. I intend to get a Thai tax number from the Revenue Department. However, whether I actually am required to have one by Immigration, or need to put in a tax return if I am only remitting savings, are unknowns at present.
  17. To me, science is based on discovery. New materials, new relationships which shed more light on the world we live in. Without discovery, science would be as sterile as a eunuch. One of the problems science has is that there are a lot more people getting educated in belief than there are in science.
  18. I have always taken it to mean have a good round of golf, but that's just me.
  19. Plenty of houses to rent at the 8-10K baht/month level.
  20. Replacing every ICE vehicle on the planet with an EV overnight would only reduce CO2 emissions by 8%. EV's are fine for places like Norway, where 98.4% of energy production is hydro and wind power. They are also good in city environments, transferring pollution elsewhere. We are in a bind, global warming and climate change are inevitable. The world still relies on fossil fuels for about 70% of power generation. Nuclear is on the nose, expensive and with major safety concerns. Solar, wind and tidal renewables have been delayed by political foot-dragging. Buy property that is not vulnerable to bushfire, wind and flooding. That rules out Bangkok, which is only a metre above sea level.
  21. Gee, I don't know. 91 indictments on a range of crimes from fraud (convicted), lying to officials wanting documents returned, flashing national secrets, setting up fake electors, inciting insurrection, and being a sexual pervert (convicted) might have something to do with it.
  22. Trump would not be wishing for the economy to crash if Biden's numbers were bad, they would speak for themselves.
  23. Probably word of mouth among foreigners, there's plenty of naming and shaming that goes on verbally. Slander is much more difficult to prove than libel, even in Thailand.
  24. I guess it's what men who have not put themselves in a pulpit do, although personally I'm a bum admirer. Not much difference in bra shapes, sizes and cleavage? You're kidding, right?
  25. Russia had already invaded Crimea, and was in the process of invading the Donbas. Quite apart from the sanctions, there's the small matter of Russia nationalizing every Western asset it could, for zero compensation. Why would anyone certify a pipeline when the supplier through that pipeline is behaving like a d!ck?
