  1. The last two Songkhrans, when interprovincial travel was permitted, there was a surge of infections afterwards. That was starting from a fairly low infection base. This time around, the infection base is high, and very probably underestimated by the Government. That's because many people are self-testing and self-isolating to avoid official quarantine. I'd suggest either Anutin is hoping the Omicron variants don't present the same mortality rate as previous mutations, or he is smoking some serious <deleted>.
  2. IIRC, the last mass murder of civilians by the US military was in 1968, at My Lai. It was followed up by exhaustive legal action against the perpetrators. Permit me to doubt any Russian will ever be brought to justice for atrocities in Ukraine, the separatists who shot down MH17 are still at large. Having said that, Russia is now an international pariah. Putin has probably done as much damage to Russia as he has to Ukraine, albeit far less visibly. Thailand will do what it has always done best, sit on the fence.
  3. You may be right; however, more specifics please. For example, Germany produces 39.7 million tonnes of steel, and is ranked #7 in the world. Ukraine produces 32.4 million tonnes, and is ranked #10. That sounds about right to me.
  4. I get it, you are not a 24/7 propaganda troll, the US is a kleptocracy. Certainly there are benefits to the US in fuel sales; however, kindly remember it was Putin who started this war. You're trying to make it sound like the US orchestrated the invasion, hello conspiracy theorist. Was it not Putin who demanded 50% of every oligarch's assets, if they wanted to be free to enjoy the fruits of their kleptocracy? I don't need alcohol to express my opinion of Arabs, having had the misfortune of working with them many years ago.
  5. Considered moderate by whom? IIRC, it was Putin who raised the nuclear option, threatening to use it if Ukraine was declared a no-fly zone to Russian warplanes.
  6. Find a good mechanic, English-speaking, who can tell you what is wrong and how much it will cost to fix. Be prepared to walk away. Going back to the shop that sold you the dud is issuing an invitation to rip you off again. Having been burnt once, I would never buy a car that has been previously owned by an Asian again. Probably like tossing a coin as far as whether the vehicle was maintained at all. As for buying a car in that price range from a car shop, and getting a contract in Thai without being able to understand the gist - words fail me.
  7. It does sound to me as if different offices apply different rules. Did my 90 day report today, next due July 2. Close enough. I have noticed previously I have lost days if I report a week early.
  8. Thus far, you have failed to name the ones who are laughing all the way to the bank. Russia was actually doing OK, it was the main supplier of gas and oil to Europe, and had built up a sizeable foreign reserve. If anyone miscalculated it was Putin, uniting Europe, underestimating the Ukrainian will to fight, listening to yes-men, and dreaming of reviving the USSR. IMO not many people care if Arabs kill other Arabs, if it was not for the oil they sit on they would be irrelevant. High marks for look over there, though.
  9. Given the atrocities the Russians are committing, I would say the Ukrainians would be remarkably restrained in just shooting them in the legs to render them non-combatants. Assuming it was true, of course.
  10. It's a matter of preference, I prefer to buy my goods and services from countries that are not mass murderers. Sometimes I have no choice, granted. McDonalds and KFC certainly follow the money, so their cessation of operations in Russia is really saying something. As does banks shutting off Russia from the SWIFT system. Who in Ukraine will be getting richer? If Putin wins, he will have stolen an entire country. If he loses, I expect the ones who get richer will be those helping with reconstruction. Tell me, who do you think is using the Ukrainians?
  11. I don't mind ignorant people, not many people have the benefit of a tertiary education in science. Even fewer have any training in thermodynamics, it is too hard a subject for most. It's when people are willfully ignorant, and feed their confirmation biases on social media with equally ignorant falsehoods, denying facts by calling them BS, that I conclude it is a waste of time talking to them.
  12. You, sir, are no gentleman. A true gentleman would allow his GF to do the dismounting.
  13. Recovering from a torn hamstring. Exercise, 20 minutes before breakfast, 20 minutes before dinner. Going on to a low-carb diet, eliminating sugar. Swimming. Want to lose 5 kg. I'd hate to think I was wasting my time by being disciplined, but it is what it is. I am really p$$$ed off that many things I like are bad for me, when I used to be able to wallow in them.
  14. Business is business, why would you expect the extra profits of private industry in Australia to be donated? In case you missed it, like most other countries Australia is sending military equipment there. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/ukrainian-president-requests-australian-armored-vehicles/2022/03/31/33da9d7c-b0ca-11ec-9dbd-0d4609d44c1c_story.html
  15. You have zero understanding of the facts of climate science, which are based on observation. Fact 1. Carbon dioxide levels have been increasing steadily since the Industrial Revolution. Fact 2. Sea temperature is rising, coral bleaching is increasing worldwide. Fact 3. The Larsen Ice Shelf is melting at unprecedented rates. Fact 4. The Vatnajokull Ice Cap has lost 400 sq km of its surface area. Fact 5. About 13,000 sq km of the Amazon rain forest was deforested in 2020-2021. Fact 6. Natural gas is just as polluting as coal. When it comes out of the ground, it contains up to 30% carbon dioxide. Fact 7. The intensity of storms worldwide is increasing, a demonstration of the First Law of Thermodynamics. I won't bother going into what albedo and clathrates mean to climate science, you just don't want to understand. Classic climate change denier, goodbye.
  16. This is what the kleptomaniac Putin really wants: This is why Ukraine matters. It is the second largest country by area in Europe by area and has a population of over 40 million - more than Poland. Ukraine ranks: 1st in Europe in proven recoverable reserves of uranium ores; 2nd place in Europe and 10th place in the world in terms of titanium ore reserves; 2nd place in the world in terms of explored reserves of manganese ores (2.3 billion tons, or 12% of the world's reserves); 2nd largest iron ore reserves in the world (30 billion tons); 2nd place in Europe in terms of mercury ore reserves; 3rd place in Europe (13th place in the world) in shale gas reserves (22 trillion cubic meters) 4th in the world by the total value of natural resources; 7th place in the world in coal reserves (33.9 billion tons) Ukraine is an important agricultural country: 1st in Europe in terms of arable land area; 3rd place in the world by the area of black soil (25% of world's volume); 1st place in the world in exports of sunflower and sunflower oil; 2nd place in the world in barley production and 4th place in barley exports; 3rd largest producer and 4th largest exporter of corn in the world; 4th largest producer of potatoes in the world; 5th largest rye producer in the world; 5th place in the world in bee production (75,000 tons); 8th place in the world in wheat exports; 9th place in the world in the production of chicken eggs; 16th place in the world in cheese exports. Ukraine can meet the food needs of 600 million people. Ukraine is an important industrialised country: 1st in Europe in ammonia production; Europe's 2nd’s and the world’s 4th largest natural gas pipeline system; 3rd largest in Europe and 8th largest in the world in terms of installed capacity of nuclear power plants; 3rd place in Europe and 11th in the world in terms of rail network length (21,700 km); 3rd place in the world (after the U.S. and France) in production of locators and locating equipment; 3rd largest iron exporter in the world 4th largest exporter of turbines for nuclear power plants in the world; 4th world's largest manufacturer of rocket launchers; 4th place in the world in clay exports 4th place in the world in titanium exports 8th place in the world in exports of ores and concentrates; 9th place in the world in exports of defence industry products; 10th largest steel producer in the world (32.4 million tons). Ukraine matters. That is why its independence is important to the rest of the world.

  19. Is proof of a negative ATK test required prior to boarding aircraft for domestic travel within Thailand? Planning to travel return Chiang Rai - Suvarnabhumi after Songkhran. Thanks.
  20. It just says you can use Google, and cherrypick what articles suit you. It's called confirmation bias. Reading through those links carefully, it would appear PSA testing is not recommended for men older than 70, or under 55. Mainly because it may lead to painful biopsies which either turn up nothing, or cancers that are so slow -growing the patient will probably die of something else. Those links do not invalidate PSA testing for all situations, it is simply one of the testing tools in a range of techniques. Of course, MRI testing is much more profitable than a PSA test, but that's just me being cynical.
  21. My policy is always to volunteer as little information as possible to any financial or government body. With data matching, they will soon be able to tell us what we had for dinner last night. To keep an account active, my method is to make a small purchase on Amazon, Lazada or the like every month or so.
  22. Quote me the 4 Laws of Thermodynamics without resorting to Google. They are facts as well, and no-one has succeeded in trashing them. They are the key drivers of anthropogenic climate change. There are others, it is not just CO2 alone. I suppose you would say gravity is a theory too. That works very well until you step off the balcony of the fourteenth floor of a condo, and become strawberry jam in a few seconds after gravity takes over.
  23. Have cooling here, have to have heating somewhere else. Check out heat patterns in Australia over the last few years.
  24. My desktop is reasonably recent, did an upgrade 6 months ago when the SSD decided to go doolally. My laptop would be 8 or 9 years old. I don't do any gaming at all, I prefer real life activity. I'm retired, so work is not an issue. Microsoft did a great marketing job to the vast majority of businesses, I'll give them that. Linux does everything I want on both systems, like you why would I change? Horses for courses.
  25. What bugs? Linux Mint has worked trouble-free for me since the pandemic started, or thereabouts. On a desktop AND a laptop, which is a bit more than good luck. An answer in the English language would be appreciated.
