Tax on the poor?: What's the cause of USA inflation?
Lacessit replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Are you misreading the link, Sheryl? It says the ANNUAL inflation rate for 2024 is about 1%, not per month. It's a bit confusing because the bar chart seems to be saying the opposite to what is in the text. The price of a cooked pad siew gai is 50 baht, like it has been for four years. My massage lady still charges 150 baht/hour. Granted migrant workers and Thais on the edge of poverty may notice the difference. An increase of 5 baht for 30 eggs costing 140 baht I don't even notice, so we should count ourselves lucky we are in the Land of Smiles. Happy New Year, and may you have many more of them. -

Tax on the poor?: What's the cause of USA inflation?

I agree inflation is common in the Western world. However, what makes you think Thailand has inflation? Rents are going through the roof in Australia. They are the same for condos in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai as they were 4 years ago. Ownership is the same cost as ten years ago. If anything, prices are depressed a little. Certainly, imported foods have spiked. However, I can't say any of the meat, fruit, vegetables and eggs I buy in local day markets or at Makro have changed so much it has impacted my monthly budget. -
You talk to me about ignorance, when you don't know the difference between gleam and glean, and use syntax a primary school kid would be ashamed of? Fact 1: The tariffs Trump wants are inflationary. Fact 2: The tax cuts he wants are inflationary. Fact 3: Illegal immigrants pick the crops. They are cheaper labor than legal immigrants. Deport them, and watch supermarket food prices leap. I deal in facts, you deal in abuse. Goodbye.

"thats normal for those who exist in a hate induced bubble augmented by narrow minded and sheeple addled existence." Strange. I thought that was an accurate description of rusted-on Trump supporters. Please. Learn to use apostrophes. You are hurting my eyes, and betraying your lack of education. I don't hate America or Americans. I have several American friends. They are quite sheepish in attempting to explain how their fellow countrymen elected a felon, fraudster and sexual predator to the highest office in the land. Harris will have a bad day, I won't. You should be more concerned about the bad four years you and about 70% of Americans are going to have. The other 30% would believe Trump if he p!ssed on them, then said it was raining.

You don't believe there is a God. I'm agnostic. You believe you will be reincarnated as a quant, or hope to be. Not disputing your lack of belief in a God. How do you justify your belief in reincarnation? What is your evidence? Happy New Year. -
Dear me, you really are frothing at the mouth with a triple diatribe. I recommend Valium. If attacking me makes you feel better, go for it. Killing the messenger is SOP for Trumpers. You don't understand dark days for Americans are ahead. If Trump does what he has promised on the campaign trail , it's a certainty. Are you a global CEO or investor? They are the beneficiaries of Trump, you are not. It doesn't matter to me. What Trump does will affect millions of Americans. It can't affect me, unless he starts playing with nukes.. I suggest you consult the statistics that say 60% of Americans are under financial stress, and 40% struggling to make ends meet. Your national debt is $38 trillion. Trump will add another $6 trillion. Then go look at the Florida property market, where some home owners are being refused home insurance, and others are being hit with huge remediation fees. Developers are waiting to swoop in on distressed properties. Trump is a real estate developer. Whose side do you think he will be on? Happy New Year.

Working on the principle if you can't beat them, join them. There was a CEO of BHP, Brian Gilbertson. He could solve Black-Scholes equations in his head. Scary. -
61% of Americans are reporting financial difficulty. 40% struggle to make ends meet month to month. Australia's gross government debt is just under $900 billion, $600 billion in American dollars. The US debt is $38 trillion. All ratings agencies - S&P, Moody's etc. have Australia on a AAA credit rating. You'll have to try harder if you want to impress me with numbers. Trump will add almost $6 trillion in his next term, which is ten times Australia's current debt.

A Federal appeals court has upheld the verdict in the $5 million E Jean Carroll defamation case. While Trump may not notice $5 million, the $83 million in the follow-up case has to sting. The usual BS about political witch hunts is coming from the Trump spokesperson, Steven Cheung. https://www.pgurus.com/us-federal-appeals-court-upholds-5-million-verdict-against-donald-trump-in-e-jean-carroll-case/

IMO that would include the MRI. Charging 150K baht for a biopsy and subsequent pathology would be daylight robbery.

Prepping for pollution season in Chiang Mai
Lacessit replied to Old Curmudgeon's topic in Chiang Mai
I would add an independent air quality monitor to the OP's list, the meter on the air purifiers can be somewhat optimistic. Easy to buy on Lazada. Water misting does assist in reducing particle pollution, as they attach themselves to the water and are knocked out. IIRC that's why the Thai government wanted to use a fleet of helicopters with water bombs over Bangkok, although it always was a half-assed idea due to logistical problems. -
They voted for Trump because Americans may never be adult enough to accept a female leader, and the billionaire bucks lined up behind Trump because they could see what was coming if Harris got in. They will have the same chaos as with Trump's first presidency, with even less accomplished. History repeats itself.

My father and mother had all their marbles when they died, genetics are on my side. Physical flaws are much more likely to do me in. If things go pear-shaped, and I doubt they will, there are at least two women who would want to care for me on the same terms. A pillow might be a blessing, eventually.

Different cultures IME can coexist with each quite comfortably. The problems come when one culture starts thinking it is superior to the other one. If I stuck with my home culture, I would probably be shunted off to an aged care facility, to eat dog food for the rest of my life. In the Thai culture, my GF and her relatives will take care of me. Period.

Did you manage to avoid all the boring family trips?
Lacessit replied to Chris Daley's topic in General Topics
I distributed small cash gifts to my GF's relatives in the village, took her grandchildren out to lunch. The amount of food they can eat is impressive. That is the extent of my participation, I can't be bothered going out on New Year's Eve. Too many lunatics on the roads. -
Leftist governments in Australia brought in Medicare for every Australian citizen. Prescriptions cost $7.50, irrespective of manufacturer price. The Age Pension is available to everyone, subject to income and asset tests. There are carer subsidies, and disability pensions. Yeah, leftists must be insane. America is so much smarter.
