Going to immigration while you are on overstay is asking for trouble. Needs to pay the fine at the border and leave the country.

If you are on overstay now, you won't get any extension. You needed to apply for an extension a week before the month ends. You could be arrested at immigration if you go to immigration while on overstay.

It is about the same, nothing has changed. Perhaps more enforcement of the rules.

That's why they fooled people and got their votes.
