  1. Rode thru these places last year and they're small. The only entertainment will be local sing along and karaoke. Stayed in Khao Yai and again didn't see much. Don't worry too much as the locals and other teachers will take care of you. You're not too far from BKK so leaving Fri. and ret. Sun no problem.

  2. as "BUYING A USED CAR" (a cheap wreck rather than a CAR, actually) is not really a new topic in here, I will not start this here again. I am sure somebody already explained everything about the procedure and which papers I have to bring in details. Can anybody give me the link to that posting please so I can read and print it.......I need all kinds of informations.......and I wonder where is the best place to buy a used car. I went to some places but I could not find any price-information when I was looking at the cars......but thats not the way I am used to do business.....yes, Thai-style business, I know.....and Farang may expect to pay an extra 100.000 Baht more than a THAI citizen.....so I left those used-car-marketplaces quickly....

Never had a problem getting the asking price at a used car lot. Most used dealers are selling cars for finance co. and want to sell the car on finance. Just ask for the cash price. Another way is to go directly to a finance co. and ask what they have for sale. I think your Thai may be lacking if you can't get them to quote a price so take a Thai with you. There are also web sites for private sales as well. Try www.mocyc.com for links.

  3. I'm not convinced that its a real Fatboy. A new one will set you back around 1.1-1.2 million bht.

You can buy off the shelf parts for Honda steeds that make them look like Fatboys. (When you start the engine the games up though)

-you can tell if its a true harley- when you start the engine, the whole thing falls apart with the vibration and all the nuts and bolts fall out :o

You obviously know zero about HD. So why would you let us know that you know nothing? The Honda Steed and Yamaha Dragstar might resemble a HD to the average person. They make a good copy. But they are copies.

Can't see spending a millon to make couple hundred a day. Even if you're bored.

  4. The local village "gossip" is going on about some Thai Thieves working their way around the area.  I am being told that this was also reported recently in one of the Thai newspapers (Daily News?).

Basically I'm told the "Thieves" act out that they are selling some product to the potential victim and somehow rub some kind of "drug" onto the skin.  This drug supposedly does not knock you out, but puts you in some kind of daze or trance where you willingly hand over your money, jewelry, whatever.

The locals are insisting it is true and even have a couple of local Farangs convinced (but not this one :D )

Anybody else heard of such a story being reported.  If such a drug exists, it sure sounds like it's got some potential for more than just stealing money, jewelry. :o

Duh.......I've tried telling them I don't believe in Ghosts either, but they still insist. :D

more likely to be an urban myth .

i have heard this one as well .

the thieves would need to wear rubber gloves to administer the stuff ,but the thais dont seem to understand this.

if such a thing existed the military and police would have it.

and western thieves would be using it en masse ,and they arent

it would also need to be very potent to work thru the skin.

Not urban myth at all. Know of 3 gals this has happened to up-country. Don't know how it is passed to the skin from the other person but it's done.
  5. Firstly for a farang to obtain a lic. you must have a non-imm. visa and a letter confirming your add.

You can test in any province. If you have a valid int. lic. you may not have to test.

    Training not provided by gov.

The written tests are in Eng.

Not valid int. as they are in Thai

Forget about driving in BKK till you have ridden for at least 6mos.

Best bet is to get an int. from your country and come over and rent a small bike. Go to large shopping ctr. at night and start. These small bikes have no clutch so very easy to learn on. Keep the rubber down and good luck!

I was told that it is a work permit that is required as well as house registration.

Well it's obvious you were told wrong. Check other threads on topic.

  6. Condolences to you and family. The ins. co. is the govt. They won't do anything and all you can expect from them is about 10,000bht. Your wife and family will have to talk to witness and convince them to give all info. to police. And yes move up the seniority level. It's not uncommon for police to ask for a little "tea" if other driver found. The only thing good that will come of this is maybe a little more ins. money if the other vehicle had private 1st class ins.

  8. To work in Thailand you will need a work permit and unfortunately you wont qualify for one

Cheers for your reply Bronco, but I have already been approved for a WP just as soon as I send them my new employment details.

Already approved for a WP? Did you apply from UK? You're looking for a job and already have a WP? Never heard of pre-approved WP and no job beforehand.

  9. If you have a legit invoice, then yes... No invoice, book or plates... No way, Jose, according to my experiences and the experiences of those a lot more clued-in to this than me. As one long-established bike shop said to me today, lots of claims to the contrary, but no facts to back the claims ever seen except for forged books and illegal plates...

Still like to be proven wrong, though.  :o

Really don't ubderstand your last post.I'm talking about bikes with a proper invoice. Yes there are bikes with forged books or running big bikes on Honda Dream stickers. Most of the guys I know have 100% legit bikes and papers. Too much of a gamble too lose 500,000 up on a bike that doesn't have proper papers. An earlier poster mentioned a book costing more than some older used bikes, yes that's possible.
  10. Hey, Penzman, this is Daeng.  I saw on another post that you mentioned getting a license plate for your motorcycle.  Did you pay much to get the plate? I bought my motorcycle (a second-hand Honda Degree mountain trail bike) in Chiangrai and was told that getting a registration and a license plate would cost an extra 50,000 baht, so I got the bike without the registration. If I could get the bike legal for not more than 10,000 baht, I'd probably go for it.

My wife says the licence plate should stay on the vehicle or m'cycle when it is sold to you. It's likely it was stolen before being sold to you since it had no plate and book as the book should also be given to you along with the plate.

She says the plate comes with the book. It cost her about 1,200 baht for the plate and book for her car. The motorcycle cost about 1000 she says.

If a plate is lost or stolen, it can be replaced by showing the vehicle's book. If the book is lost or stolen, the owner should get a police report to have it replaced.

She jumped when she read about the extra 50 000 baht you mentioned. One word, colluption!

I think you and your wife are talking about a bike that has already been reg. This 50,000 is for a bike not reg. yet. Hopefully the poster has the invoice showing the import duties paid.

ajahnlau, How does the process work? Who do you pay the 50,00 baht to? Have you ever done it yourself? Have you confirmed through facts that this process is legit and not corruption or just some Urban Legend in Thailand?

Matter of fact have done a bike from invoice to reg. The money is paid to the reg. office above the table and rec. issued. So not a legend, myth, colluption, etc. The avg. Thai has no idea how this is done and this is why advice from one's wife who thinks only farangs pay this is all wrong. Eveyone pays this farang or Thai. And yes know Thais and other farangs who have paid 50 plus to get a bike reg.
  11. Level 3 has several questions rather than just one.

    1.  A car is moving north at 50 m.p.h. on a level, paved road.  In which direction is the friction?

    2.  Which  word in the English language can be formed from the letters

              Y  T  C  E  H  S      .....  ?

    3.  "The superabundance of talent skilled in the preparation of gastronomic concoctions will impair the quality of a certain potable solution made by immersing a galinaceous bird in ebullient Adams Ale"

    What does it mean?

    4.  A man travels to work on a circular railway.  His office is situated diametrically  opposite  his home.  In one direction, from his home to his office, it takes  1 hour &  20 minutes -- in the other direction however, it takes only 80 minutes.  Why?

    5.  Study this paragraph and all things in it. What is vitally wrong with it? Actually, nothing in it is wrong, but you must admit that it is most unusual. Don't just zip through it quickly, but study it scrupulously. With luck you should spot what is so particular about it and all words found in it. Can you say what it is? Tax your brains and try again. Don't miss a word or a symbol. It isn't all that difficult?

    6.  What 13-letter word means "having or showing keen understanding?"

    :o

The answer is RELEVANCE, what's this and other levels got to do with Thailand. Ah yes this is supposed to be about??????? Maybe move to jokes or Miami forum

  12. evo, i believe you have to go back to hua hin and change the registration to phuket as thats where you live, then hit phuket and sort it out there, i maybe quite wrong on this but i dont think so...

You don't have to change the book to Phuket if you don't want to. You can change book to your and leave it reg. in HH. If comp. ins and reg. not paid up again just give to ins. agent. Now you can start to change to your name. I live up-country and veh. reg. in BKK. Letter conf. add. states I live up-country. Evey year just give book to ins. agent and new stickers come back in 2 days.
