Expats How Do You Deal With The Toxic Air Pollution in Thailand?
LosLobo replied to Mitkof Island's topic in General Topics
Living in the hills on the Isthmus of Kra, halfway between Chumphon and Ranong, I always thought the recent haze was just a natural weather pattern. With the Gulf of Thailand on one side and the Andaman Sea on the other, pollution didn’t even cross my mind—especially since I’ve had no breathing issues so far. But today’s AQI reading of 84 gave me pause. While still in the "moderate" range, it’s a reminder of the potential long-term effects. I’ve decided now to invest in an air purifier to stay ahead of any health risks—better safe than sorry! -

You obviously know as little as Hegseth. Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Brunei all have U.S. security agreements and are vital to Indo-Pacific defense. Thailand and Singapore host U.S. bases and participate in joint exercises, while the others engage in defense cooperation. All these nations fall under the Department of Defense’s purview. It’s not just trade; it’s defense and security.

Trump’s Inauguration: A Gathering of Global Far-Right Leaders

Ah, the irony of misspelling 'misspelled.' If poor spelling is a crime, then the Grammar Police might want to lock you up and toss away the key -

Trump's Big Lie doesn’t magically become truth with age. So let’s cut to the chase: Did Trump win in 2020, or is 'the past' just too awkward for you to face? -

Trump’s Inauguration: A Gathering of Global Far-Right Leaders
LosLobo replied to Social Media's topic in World News
As Trump crosses the Potomac from the airport on January 20, it can be likened to Caesar crossing the Rubicon, which was the death knell of the 500-year-old Roman Republic. That's if he doesn't thumb his nose at the D.C. swamp and get Eileen Cannon to take the oath as he swears on The Art of the Deal from his golf cart at Mar-a-Lago. Evidently, all legal under the Constitution, but as if the Constitution means anything to him, considering he already failed his 2017 oath to support it while he watched his insurrection on TV. -

Surely, you’re confused—it is your post that was ‘designed to ensure that the truth about the Nazis was obscured’—they were vehemently anti-socialist. -

Trump’s Inauguration: A Gathering of Global Far-Right Leaders
LosLobo replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Jan 20, 2025 – A Grim Milestone This inauguration of a U.S. President may feature the smallest crowd in 40 years—a reflection not so much of a Trump-caused, deeply divided nation but a fittingly cold, dismal day. Even the weather seems to disapprove of this occasion—Mother Nature’s retribution to the climate denier. The coincidental lowering of the stars and stripes to half-mast seems not just symbolic but prophetic—the twilight of American democracy. This is no ordinary event but the coronation of a convicted felon and a serial sex offender, who has declared bankruptcy six times currently with half a billion dollars in unpaid court fines. The land of the free now looks less like the city on a hill and more like a crumbling façade—hollowed out by disinformation, authoritarianism, and the normalization of criminality at its highest office. The end of U.S. democracy is nigh! IMHO -
Pete Hegseth Pledges to Restore Warrior Ethos in U.S. Military
LosLobo replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Experience doesn’t always translate to better qualified’? Right, just like you’d eagerly board a plane with a pilot who’s never flown before or trust a first-year med student to perform surgery. But hey 'to be clear', the Secretary of Defense — no big deal, right? He’s only the one guardrail against the guy who asked about nuking Iran and using nuclear weapons on hurricanes. And he holds the security of the country — and possibly the free world — in his hands. -

Just found ten very good shows on BBC iPlayer which should keep @xylophone and others busy for a while. The first one I watched for three minutes was Fleabag TV Series (2016–2019) IMDB Rating 8.7/10 and it won me. Never laughed so much! The other nine are high up there too. A lot of them are available elsewhere besides BBC. https://metro.co.uk/2025/01/11/10-best-shows-bbc-iplayer-near-perfect-rotten-tomatoes-scores-22337601/

So, by your hypocritical logic, all non-citizens commenting on U.S. issues are 'clueless'? Yet you weigh in on non-U.S. threads like Australian pensions. FYI: Many Australians have a lot of expertise on wildfires, having regularly faced some of the world's largest mega fires. -
Just watched The Intruder 2019 with Dennis Quaid on Netflix. Not too bad for a lunch time movie.

Holy Rigatoni! Is "authentic" Italian food actually American?
LosLobo replied to Jingthing's topic in Political Soapbox
The classic Neapolitan pizza uses a simple tomato sauce made from fresh tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, and basil—quintessentially Italian. However, the way tomato sauce is used and seasoned in American pizzas (sweeter and more robustly spiced) often differs from the lighter, purer Italian style.
