Ignore the reminder, we all get them when we return from overseas or do our 90 day report in some other way, e.g. my Agent does one for me when I do my extension or get a re-entry permit whether I need one or not. The 90 Day reporting clock restarts when you re-enter Thailand so you should do it 90 days from then (NB Arrival date counts as Day1 so technically it's due 89 days after arrival).

Moving away from using an agent
Mike Teavee replied to eddyod's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I take it you got a re-entry permit before leaving Thailand (unfortunately some guys don't & find themselves back on a 30/45 day Visa Exempt stamp). Coming back into Thailand resets the 90 day clock so I would recommend going straight to immigration to register a change of address (you're supposed to do this within 24 hours of entering Thailand), In Pattaya this was via the TM30 form but there is a different TM (27 or 28) form that might be required by your IO, then at any time 15 days before (or up to 7 days after) the 90 days is up, go in & do your report. You should have no problems, I doubt they'll even notice your extension was done elsewhere, mine was done in Bangkok approx. 2 weeks before I moved to Pattaya & they didn't blink an eye when doing my TM30 or my 1st 90 day report (NB the TM30 does not reset the 90 day clock so be sure to do your 90 day within 90 days of entering Thailand). Edit to add: I also use an agent to do my extensions & did that particular one 44 days before it was due so I could have moved to Pattaya with 1 month left on the previous year's extension. -
There are a few tax breaks for people who are Non-UK Resident for Tax Purposes... Every British citizen (& people who have ever worked for the government or are citizens/residents of countries like Australia that have Duplicate Taxation Agreements with the UK) are entitled to a Personal Tax Allowance of £12,570 pa Any (Non-Property) Assets bought since you became non-resident or have held for at least 5 years are not subject to Capital Gains Tax should you sell & make more than £12,300 in profit The only tax you should pay on dividends is the Withholding Tax so if your income should take you into a higher tax bracket (> £50,270) you don't need to pay any more tax There are also some things you'll (technically) lose... Your pension will be frozen as at the later date of when you left the UK or when you start claiming - NB I'm talking about Thailand specifically here, if you were to move to a country that has reciprocal social security agreements (e.g. Philippines) you will continue to get annual increases. You cannot open a new or add funds to an existing ISA You cannot renew your driving license (NB technically your license is void anyway as by law it has to show your current address & this has to be a UK address). As somebody who is > 10 years away from being able to claim his state pension it makes sense to me to be registered as non-UK resident for tax purposes but other guys use relatives/friends addresses to get around all of these negative points.

Worst Joke Ever 2025
Mike Teavee replied to warfie's topic in Jokes - Puzzles and Riddles - Make My Day!
Little Jimmy was sitting on a park bench munching on one candy bar after another. After the 6th one, a man on the bench across from him said to him, 'Son, you know eating all that candy isn't good for you. It will give you acne, rot your teeth, and make you fat.' Little Jimmy replied, 'My grandfather lived to be 107 years old.' The man asked, 'Did your grandfather eat 6 candy bars at a time?' Little Jimmy answered, 'No . . . he minded his own <deleted> business.' -
As I posted in another thread, I have never been asked to go back after 3 months to show I still have the 800K in the bank BUT I do use an agent to do all of the paperwork for me so I can only assume that either I'm getting an additional "Perk" for using an agent OR even the agent doesn't think it needs doing. NB I keep the 800K in the bank all year round so it wouldn't be a problem for me to show this, just have never been asked to do so at Bangkok (CW) or Jomtien.
-
TBH I use an agent to make things easier for me (I do keep the 800K in the account all year around) & though they took photocopies of my bank book (there were amalgamated entries in there that I know wouldn't be acceptable at Bangkok/CW Immigration even when using an agent) they only seemed interested in me getting a 3 month statement (done in 10 minutes) from my Bank. They didn't even bother to tell me I needed to go back after 3 months to show I still had the money in the account so either it's a hidden "Perk" of using an agent or Jomtien IO is not bothered whether you do it or not (Same in Bangkok, have never been given a slip to go back, I used an agent to do all the paperwork for me there as well).
-
Do not do this... The 800K has to be in your account for 3 months after your extension so taking it down to 400K immediately after is a very bad idea. OP Ask at your bank, I believe it's possible to add your Partner as a Joint Account holder without them showing up as a named account holder when it comes to extension time.

UK Standard Visitor Visa is Multi-entry so technically as many trips as you can squeeze in during it's validity https://www.ivisa.com/united-kingdom-blog/uk-standard-visitor-visa-for-the-citizens-of-thailand#:~:text=The UK Standard Visitor Visa is a Multiple Entry visa. Do note that the Visa is valid for 180 days after date of issuance so if you applied & got one now you might not even be able to enter on your May holiday.

Full UK State Pension is approx. £9,339,20 pa (£179.60 pw) so this would cost somebody living on that £1867.84 pa (£35.92 pw). Maybe if they did do this, it will re-open the debate around frozen pensions & just maybe some guys might even be better off. My money is on them not doing it but I only get income on rental property & from dividends so it's easy(ish) for me to bail on the UK (I can't be the only one so another reason why I don't think they'll do it) if they do. And If they do well I'll just make myself UK-Resident for Tax purposes once my pensions kick in & spend 16 days* a year there (46 in year one)... I quite like the UK in May ???? *I'm greatly simplifying what it takes to return to being UK-Resident for tax purposes but it's certainly possible to work things out so you spend part of the year there, maybe even get your pension uplifts & the rest living where you want to live.
-
I think you're referring to the PTA (Personal Tax Allowance) & for the UK to remove it would involve them having to renegotiate DTA's (Double Tax Agreements) with almost every country it has one in place with as they could only remove it from "Non-UK Resident for tax purposes" people which includes Non-UK citizens. There are huge differences between being Non-Domicile (You don't live there) Non-Tax Resident (You pay tax on less things there ) & a Non-UK citizen (You don't have a UK Passport). https://www.gov.uk/tax-uk-income-live-abroad/personal-allowance#:~:text=You'll get a Personal, time during that tax year Personal Allowance You’ll get a Personal Allowance of tax-free UK income each year if any of the following apply: you hold a British passport you’re a citizen of a European Economic Area (EEA) country you’ve worked for the UK government at any time during that tax year You might also get it if it’s included in the double-taxation agreement between the UK and the country you live in.

Mike Teavee replied to warfie's topic in Jokes - Puzzles and Riddles - Make My Day!

What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2022)
Mike Teavee replied to CharlieH's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I know it was recommended on here a long time ago but I've just started on Fauda... https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4565380/ Loving it... 4 Seasons to go... Although it's fiction it feels like it touches on real life in Israel/Palestine so far I've had to Google "Hannibal Directive" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hannibal_Directive & Baruch Goldstein https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baruch_Goldstein -

To be clear I posted a negative reaction to the Stevin Hawkins "Joke", hardly his fault he was born that way, still managed to live a life most of us can only aspire to rising to. -

Binge watched Ancient Apocalypse (Recently released on Netflix) https://www.leisurebyte.com/ancient-apocalypse-review/ Can't say I agree with the guys conclusions but I really enjoyed the footage of some of the worlds oldest civilization sites. Ancient Apocalypse: Review It all comes down to this: Do you or do you not love watching Discovery channels? If your answer is yes, you are going to love Ancient Apocalypse. The host, Graham Hancock is a passionate journalist who has, at times being the target of trolls and haters. Despite being humiliated so many times, Graham has not given up on his theory and is adamant to prove it to the world. As far as the show’s cinematography is considered, it is one of the key elements that kept us hooked to the show. Beautiful aerial shots of the picturesque historical monuments and sights blew our minds. The videographer did justice to the grandeur of these monuments. -
Take care of the cat! That new food you're giving her is damaging her kidneys (too much sodium) so please put her back on the bland stuff. You can thank me later... Mike

Worst Joke Ever 2025

Lol, another true story.... I went to a midnight showing of Nightmare on Elm Street & needed a quick toilet break before the show so as I'm stood there, Freddy Krueger comes up behind me, puts his scythe like hands on my Shoulder & says.... Hello Mike... It was one of my mates who was really into horror movies make-up at that time (that's his career now)... so the Cinema had hired him to hang around as Freddy... Scared the bejesus out of me!!! -
Thanks... I originally read the image you posted ...as needing $250K plus an existing investment in Thailand but I can see now that it probably worded badly & really should be read as any investment you have in Thailand can be used to cover/offset against the $250K. This obviously makes a massive difference to guys who already own property (in their own name) and brings the LTR Visa within the reach of many more Retirees.
-
Why is it that guys who choose not to pay the 22b pd (8,000b pa) it costs to use an agent always call us guys who do "Lazy" or "Incompetent"? . We all value things differently & paying 8K pa for an agent to ensure my extension is done in one shot is worth it to me if it means that I won't meet an immigration officer who's having a bad day or turn up at immigration & find there's a new rule whereby I cannot do my extension as early as I normally do (Happened at CW during Covid). I get that you see no value in using an Agent if you meet all of the other requirements but I would appreciate it if you don't throw insults about at us guys who obviously do see the value.

When I lived in Bangkok my mate who lives in Buriram but works in Bangkok used to bring us a monthly supply from the Buriram Pie man... http://www.burirampieman.com/ better than TInnies (Jomtien) IMHO.

Enforcement checking for Foreigners on overstay !
Mike Teavee replied to Social Media's topic in Pattaya
Me three... Which reminds me I haven't taken a picture of my latest extension (done in August) so will do that now. -
The wording on most sites seems to be a bit ambiguous on this point... In case of personal income below USD 80,000/year but no less than USD 40,000/year, applicants must invest at least USD 250,000 in Thai government bonds, foreign direct investment, or Thai property But I read it as new investment & @Pibposted a link earlier in the thread that seemed to confirm this.... https://ltr.boi.go.th/documents/Announcement_of the Office of the Board of Investment No.2-2565 (EN).pdf Does anybody know for sure whether existing investment can be used to meet the criteria or does it have to be fresh investment brought in after applying for the visa.... E.g. If I already own a 10Million baht Condo would this count as the additional $250K investment or would I need to bring in another 9.4Million baht?

That was what I suspected, I did inform HMRC I was leaving Singapore to live in Thailand, but am not sure I specifically mentioned that I would no longer be working. I'm "Retired" in the sense that I don't work but at 56 I won't receive any Pension income until I'm 60 so they may well have just assumed that I am still working. Great information/link which also answers @BangkokReadyquestion about how to go about paying AVCs when living abroad.... If you were living or working abroad Fill in form CF83 at the end of leaflet NI83. Send the form to HMRC using the address on the form.
-
Not that I’m aware of, need to call them & they will tel you how much AVC you can back pay & send you instructions for setting up a direct debit for future payments. Can set an account up using a Thai mobile number, I’m forever forgetting mine so have set up 5 or 6 over the years, never with a UK mobile number . IIRC just need your passport details & National Insurance Number

How to count 90 day record after arrival
Mike Teavee replied to steveb5's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Ignore the reminder, the clock restarts when you re-enter Thailand so as you entered on 26th September your next 90 report is due on 25th December (Merry Christmas ???? ) I usually do mine online (https://tm47.immigration.go.th/tm47/#/login) 7-10 days before it's due giving me the time to get my agent to do it (200b) if there's a problem.
