Technically the distinction is it that it should be your home/permanent address... The reality is using parents, kids, friends address you'd never get caught. Loved your post about the "Green" License, I still have mine... Long story short, stolen car, lost wallet/license, new pink license (which as mentioned above expired 9 years back) & Police bringing back the "Green" one 18 months later which has my UK registered address for my UK Bank accounts (Parents Address) so I doubt anybody would bat an eye if I used it...
-
It honestly doesn't matter, at the time I got 90% of the way through renewing mine (from Singapore) & forms were sent to my parents address before I decided to err on the side of caution - Besides, you might be renewing when on holiday FWIW Living in Singapore, Bangkok & now Wongamat (Pattaya) haven't had to drive a car for 12 years ????
-
In a nutshell... No your license isn't "Legal"... It has to be registered at you permanent address, but the chances of getting caught are probably 0.01% FWIW I let my UK license lapse 23/12/2013 as I was in a dispute with HMRC about claiming Income tax back whilst being overseas so I decided not to give UK gov any chance of denying my claim... Again the chance of them catching me out was probably 0.01%

Health insurance for single male in 50s
Mike Teavee replied to Hans99's topic in Insurance in Thailand
I read that thread & the "Reason to not use a Thai Company" basically came down to one guy's opinion, mainly about renewal & smaller Insurance companies... Hardly a reason not to use a major Thai Insurance company... But even if he is correct, IMHO the #1 thing when choosing an Insurance Policy is whether the Hospital I'm likely to be admitted to will accept it or not... I.e. How many International Policies are likely to be accepted at a Thai Hospital where a major Thai Insurance company (Say Pacific Cross) wouldn't be? I tried to check on arguably Thailand's #1 hospital... https://www.bumrungrad.com/en/insurance/ But when I click on International Insurance companies accepted for direct payment, I seem to just get the Thai companies again.... End of the day do your own research but please make sure that the hospital that you might end up in, accepts that gold plated, well regulated, guaranteed renewal until you're 99+ policy... Or make sure you keep enough money in the bank to pay & claim back... -
What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2022)

Mosquito Coast https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11041132/ Am really enjoying it ???? Background is I bought a new Phone yesterday which came with 3 months free Apple TV+ so I thought why not try it out & this series caught my eye - As you would expect from Apple it's a good quality service (app was already installed on my TV), simply scanning a QR code on the TV logged me in & I was up & running. Have to say content looks very light but both seasons of Slow Horses are on there & a few series I haven't come across before that sound interesting... Echo 3 - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt12762512/ Severance - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11280740/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_1 Suspicion - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt12026710/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0 ... so will make sure I watch those before the 3 months is up & then decide whether to continue at 199b pm. NB Thai Subtitles are really important to me so the GF can watch along, so whilst I'll stream from my Android box if it's something that I want to watch alone it's worth it to me to pay for the likes of Netflix (419b pm) for the subtitles so we can watch it together. -

Health insurance for single male in 50s
Mike Teavee replied to Hans99's topic in Insurance in Thailand
If you're looking for a Thai Insurance company (& if you plan on living in Thailand then why wouldn't you) I would start by comparing policies on Mister Prakan https://misterprakan.com/en/health/health-insurance-thailand Once you find a policy you like you can either purchase it through them or direct with the Insurer or with another broker - The price is the same... I found the customer service at Mister Prakan to be very helpful & quick to respond to queries so I purchased my policy & do my renewals (next one is due in Jan) through them. FWIW I'm 56 & have the Pacific Cross "Visa Friendly" policy https://www.pacificcrosshealth.com/en/longstay-visa/ I removed the Outpatients cover ( Like you, I don't need Health Insurance for my Visa/Extensions) & took a 100k deductible (You can play about with the various options on the Mister Prakan site) - IIRC the 1st year was approx. 25,000b (I took it out the day before my 55th Birthday) & the renewal this year was 26,800b -
I try to avoid flying out from Don Mueng but if I had to I would use Cherry Taxi... https://cherrytaxiservice.com/services-rates/ - 1,400b including the Tolls. For Suvarnabhumi Airport, I always use Nam Taxi https://www.namstaxiladydrivers.com/services - 1,000b including the Tolls.

Couldn't get a Bolt from Wongamat on Friday night so ended up walking to Naklua road and getting the Baht Bus into town, 1st 2 of these tried it on for 200b "Farang Price", fortunately there were plenty of others behind them who were happy with the 2x10b fares. Same was true Sunday lunchtime coming back from Central, Bolt were a minimum of 20min away & wanted approx. 200b so went outside & spoke to the Taxi drivers there, 1st one (lady might have been the same one as in the OP) asked for 400, next 300b last one was happy with 250b (Traffic was really quiet so were home in < 15 mins) - would normally be approx. 80b in a Bolt.

Thailand Elite: Which Plan?
Mike Teavee replied to aldriglikvid's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
As the rules stand today you can pay 600K for the 5 year Visa and at some point in the future pay the extra 400K to upgrade it to the 1Million 20 year Visa. This will allow you to take advantage of the perks that come with the 5 year visa (Airport transfers etc...) for the 1st 5 years BUT you will need to keep an eye on any changes to the rules incase this option disappears at some point in the future. -

Working in Glasgow rolling out a new IT system & goes into storage room to see how many monitors we had left & the lassie who was helping says “I count 5 but we should have sex”… After that the other Lassie asked if I wanted Totty (Baked Potato) for lunch… Happy Days ???? -
Gemalto is the name of the company that prints the passports & apparently they're printed in Tczew, Poland... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_passport#:~:text=The result of the tender,it being more cost efficient.

I agree that it was a long time ago but think that they are more likely to do the same for current long term (>4 years) Non-Imm O/OA holders than to raise their limits. I just don't think they thought through the impact of introducing mandatory insurance to existing retirees but the implications of raising the money in the bank is so "In Your Face" that it's impossible to ignore. Also need to consider that any lifting of the 800K would likely be matched by a equivalent uplift in the income requirements (E.g. if they made the minimum 1Million then the monthly income minimum would become 85K pm) doable for people planning their retirement, not so much for guys who are already on a fixed income. Appreciate this is the LTR thread and we've strayed OT but for me, one of the benefits of maintaining a Non-IMM O visa is the fact that (I believe) I'll be grandfathered from any future changes to the Visa, obviously I could be completely wrong about this only time will tell.
-
Whilst I agree that IO (with the exception of Phuket) didn't grandfather existing Non-Imm OA holders from new Health Insurance requirements, the last time that they increased the money in the bank requirements for retirees they did grandfather existing OA/O holders so (IMHO) they are more likely to grandfather it again than not. As an aside, the introduction of Health Insurance for Non-IMM OA holders just didn't make sense, I mean why Introduce it for people extending their Non-Imm OA visa & not for those extending their Non-Imm O's, are Non-Imm O holders somehow immune to getting ill (hope so ???? ) NB I do believe that everybody should have some form of Health Insurance be it via a policy or a fixed sum for Self insuring, I've always wanted them to introduce someway of proving this (like you can do with the MM2H scheme in Malaysia) BUT looking at things like the Long Term Resident visa, it seems if they do you will need $100,000, which would be inline with what is required for the LTR & (I believe) what's needed for a Non-Imm OA nowadays.

I filed my 90-day report online on 15th November for a 22nd November report date (so 7 days before), was approved on 16th November. On the old 90 day system, 1 of the things you had to be careful about was not directly typing in dates, you had to make sure you selected them using the calendar widgets, I'm not sure if this is still a problem with the current system as I've got into the habit of only ever selecting dates from the widgets.

Or use an agent... Approx. 23,000 THB for the initial conversion from Visa Exempt to Non-Imm O & 1st 12 months extension (so he'd be good for 15 months). After that he should have proof of the monthly income coming in so can revert to using income, money in the bank or combination depending on his immigration office.

Mike Teavee replied to CharlieH's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I'm about 1/2 way through it & enjoying it, worth a watch IMHO... Now you mention it I can see the parallels with Dark... Another new one on Netflix is Wednesday... "Background" TV for me but the GF is loving it, in fact I can't get the main TV back until she's finished it! -
What if it's an alcohol free beer? Am asking because it's 8:45am, I've just looked in the fridge, only things to drink in there are water & Heineken 0.0 & I really don't fancy water

Same thing happened to me (I have to remember to change it each time as that's how my profile is set-up), but I just ignored the fact & checked-in / went through security with no problems. After all, some countries (e.g. Singapore) would put call me Mr Mike, first name Teavee if they saw my name as Mike Teavee. Great airline, much better than Thai Air Asia IMHO, use them a lot to fly to Hat Yai.

Why is the UK struggling more than other countries?
Mike Teavee replied to Scott's topic in World News
It is a laugh as the UK has always had a veto on not having to adopt the Euro so could never have been forced to do so... BUT... if it were agreed that we would adopt the Euro then there would have to be a "Transition" period where both currencies would be valid for a certain period of time (Just like the Euro countries did when they moved from Francs, Pesos, Deutsche Marks, Litas etc...) Nightmare for businesses as they would have to update all of their billing, tills, receipts etc... to dual report Sterling & Euros but has been done many times before & will be done when the next country joins the EU.
