  1. An unnecessarily sensational article published after the plane landed safely.
  2. Do a border bounce to buy yourself and your family some time. Then research your options for a longterm stay if that's what your plan is.
  3. If that happens and they "allow you back" without having entered and exited Laos, they will cancel your Thai exit stamp, so you won't get a new entry. They could also refuse to let you exit right away if they realize that Laos won't admit you. Not a good idea.
  4. That's definitely an issue. Some banks have internal regulations that specifically require a non-immigrant visa. When the Smart Visa and the LTR Visa (which are equivalent to non-immigrant visas) were introduced, it took some banks a while to update their regulations and some people reported issues initially as well. The DTV isn't equivalent to a non-immigrant visa though, so such an update might never come. I'd guess it will continue to be hit and miss.
  5. Seems to be pretty normal in Thailand. When I go to a 7/11 and reply that I'm not a member or to a Café Amazon and tell them that I don't have a Blue Card, they often use someone else's membership information as well. I'm surprised that their supervisors/employers tolerate this.
  6. Great to hear he's still among us, his diagnosis sounded rather serious last year. Fight on!
  7. They've been shoddier than ever anyway. A nearby branch in a mall went cashless AND removed their seating area. I could just as well go to the supermarket in the same building and buy some fresh quality ingredients to make myself a sandwich at home, as that's where I'd have to eat it anyway. Then there's the "bread", or what they sell under that name.
  8. All that will accomplish is that even more Thai workers will end up getting killed in Israel. The Thai government should at the very least ban these recruitment tours.
  9. I must have missed that Russia invaded an EU country. Did you even read the headline?
  10. I'm surprised that you, being a seasoned traveler, don't renew your passport well before running low on blank pages. It saddens me to say this, but in Thailand I've learned not to expect "professional" behavior. More often than not, people we're dealing with didn't get their job because of their qualifications - and it shows.
  11. More dumb fear-mongering to keep EU citizens on their toes.
  12. Staying. All things considered I still like staying in Thailand better than elsewhere.
  13. Nakhon Nayok has its own immigration office in the provincial capital, so that's the one you'll need to use if you stay in that province.
  14. No problem at all. None of those in-country immigration formalities require you to present your last exit stamp. What is often required is the latest ENTRY stamp, and you'll still get that whenever you enter Thailand.
  15. As long as you start over with a new Non-O visa obtained outside of Thailand, as per your plan, there's no problem "switching" nationalities.
  16. Yes, that's normal, no exit stamps are given when using the auto gates.
  17. You shouldn't have any problems doing a border run there on your own. That's quite a busy border and I haven't seen any reports of people getting into trouble there.
  18. Why would a retiree do that? I think the DTV is a great option for those younger than 50 who don't qualify for any non-immigrant visa and extensions thereof. But once you're 50 and can get yearly retirement extensions, that's hard to beat for overall convenience.
  19. Last time I took that bus, I used Grab to get to my hotel, which was probably somewhat quicker than using their shared van and quite cheap.
  20. I've never thought that is a problem, as many elderly look like they're standing on their last leg.
  21. A bit silly to compare a capital city with a beach resort. Of course prices in Bangkok are all over the place, to accommodate both minimum wage earners and millionaires.
  22. Makes sense. Someone who's on the run probably avoids showing up at immigration for an extension or border run. And there's a good chance that those overstayers continue to commit crimes to fund their ongoing stay.
  23. What I do know is that I wouldn't trust Jeff Bezos or any media company he owns or controls.
  24. As a rule of thumb, if you do have an arrival card, immigration still expects you to fill in the number and provide copies. As it's recorded in their system.
