  1. Every time I fly into Bangkok, I always use the hotel's car to pick me up. Yes, it might cost a little more baht, but for me it makes life easier. I grab my suitcase and there is my car & driver waiting for me outside. Hassle free.
  2. I have tried Melatonin and it works for me off & on. What works the best for me, is to smoke some cannabis right before bed. It knocks me out and I have an awesome night of sleeping. Great dreams too.
  3. This is from the VA website in the USA: As a Veteran living or traveling abroad, you can receive medical care for VA service-connected disabilities through our VA Foreign Medical Program. Under this program, we assume payment responsibility for the necessary treatment of service-connected disabilities.
  4. I am no expert on this subject, but I have had to deal with this two times this year. My stuff came over by UPS. Two weeks ago, I had 6 brand new shirts shipped here and for whatever reason, the sender put the value as $1.00. So my package ended up in customs. I was explained that since the shirts were brand new and the sender was a company that I purchased them from, that I had to pay the proper custom fees. I was also told that if the shirts where worn by me and a friend sent them, then the value could be listed at $1.00, as they were not new. Once I gave all the information to the UPS Rep they got with customs and I had to pay the custom fees at delivery (COD). So my suggestion to you is, let the DHL Rep know that the hearing aid is not brand new and you did not just buy it. Also give them a copy of the paperwork showing that you just had them repaired. That they are no longer valued the same as they were, when they were brand new. DHL will advise customs, as they are representing you and see what happens. You might have to give them a reduced value on the items, but let them know there is no paperwork to back it up. It's worth a try. Good luck
  5. There are a lot different places in Chiang Mai that is selling cannabis flower I noticed. I myself get my stuff from Prikpot.com. You can order online and they will deliver. Or you can go to their store and you can save somewhere around 100 - 200 baht per gram. They are located in the Star Avenue 5, left hand side. I like them because they grow their stuff and it is 100% organic. If you belong to the local Expat Club they will give you a 10% discount.
  6. I think you are wrong. Yes a foreigner can buy a house, but can not buy the land it is on. My friend has the land in one one his Thai friends name, but the house he owns. When he dies, the house will go to his Thai friend.
  7. My neighbor which is from the USA, won the jackpot of 6,000,000 baht last year. He used the money to purchase the house that he lives in. Plus bought a brand new pickup truck.
  8. I am one of those that uses an agent every year. The company I use is one of the top companies here in Chiang Mai and it cost only 5,500 baht to handle the retirement extension. Wow, some of the other prices I hear people pay is way too high. For 400 baht more they will also handle all of the bank stuff that is needed. To me, paying 5,900 baht to handle everything 100% is worth the price. All I do is drop off my passport with the agent at the company, Then a couple of days later, they call me to meet them at immigration (or they will drive me). They direct me to the spot to have my picture taken and 2 minutes later they hand me my passport. To me it can't get any easier. But I know a lot of people would rather handle things themselves. But then you hear all of these stories of what went wrong and etc...
  9. Maybe it is different for a Doctor. Here at the University , after you graduate, they assist the graduate on preparing to take the test and they aid in helping obtain a job with Bangkok Hospital. I know of two graduates (foreigner) that are now working at Bangkok Hospital. A Rep from Bangkok Hospital was here last month talking to some of us, about coming to work at one of their Hospitals in Thailand. Maybe they have something worked out with the Medical Council of Thailand. It is Thailand and not all of the rules pertain to everyone.
  10. Yes and there is a high demand for foreigners that speak English and Thai. We checked with Bangkok Hospital. The only issue is, you would be paid just a little above what a Thai would be paid. The main requirement is to take the test and if you pass you would receive your license.
  11. When you say Medical, what are you referring to, Nursing, Doctor or what? As they charge a different tuition price. My kid attends the University in Chiang Mai and is going for a B of S, in Nursing. Already finished two years. Tuition is 65,000 baht per semester (for foreigner). A Thai pays 35,000. Dorm shared room is around 5,000 baht. But since I live close to the University, my kid lives here, so food & rent is covered by me. So the only outlay is the tuition, plus books and uniforms.
  12. That doesn't sound true to me. As the TEFL is just a certificate saying you finished a course Teaching English as a foreign language However, when applying for most, not all teaching jobs, they require that you have a TEFL plus other doc's, Once hired, you would receive a Work Permit. I myself obtained a TEFL from an online course from the UK for 300 baht. It took 3 days to complete the course. Very easy.
  13. What do you mean, your vaccine expired? Once you receive your vaccine shot, it doesn't have an expiration date, as it is good for whenever. Now if you are talking about the vaccine still in the bottle, yes they have an expiration date, which means they need to be given prior to.
  14. I did a cash advance using my USA debit card yesterday at my local Bangkok Bank at the mall. I had no issues at all. I usually wire transfer, but I needed some spending cash now. Next time I go in, I will ask them. this way I don't get caught off guard if I need to do it again in the future.
  15. Everyone has their own strategy when it comes for investing. I can only tell you what I have done. As for myself, I have made some real good money from my Crypto investments. And I plan on making more good investments from the Crypto category. I also have invested heavy in the Cannabis industry in the USA. As I believe it is another area that will show a good return in the future. Last year and this year, I have invested 50% in Crypto & 50% in Cannabis companies every month. Next year my plan is to invest 50% in Crypto and 50% in Dividend Stocks. Good luck on whatever route you go..
  16. What country are you from? I am from the USA and yes when I obtained a new passport I received a new number. When immigration transfers all of the information from the old passport to the new passport, they also list the old passport number.
  17. When you go to their website, look a the top menu bar and click on "Buy Insurance Online". Then click on "Insurance for Thailand Pass". Here's the page link: https://direct.axa.co.th/TA-Inbound/CoverageOptionPlan
  18. I stand corrected, thank you Dr. Jack54. When I was writing my comment, I forgot to add the Non O-A, sorry about that. I should of checked my comments before I posted them. I hate giving the wrong information. I might be 71 years old, but I can still learn from my mistakes...
  19. Wow, what a mess. I am sorry to see that you have to deal with all of this. It would be so simple if all of the immigration places did it exactly the same and that they supplied a checklist for all foreigners to follow. That is why I use an agent here in Chiang Mai. From when I first arrived in Thailand and every year since then for my extension. It cost me just 5500 baht and they handle everything 100%. For 400 baht more they handle all of the bank paperwork too. When the agent has everything done, then I meet them at immigration, just to take a picture and then 3 minutes later the agent hands me my passport and everything is complete. I never have to see or talk to immigration at all. I know a lot of expats don't believe in using agents, but I do. I have been here 7 years and never an issue. Here's a point you should also consider. I believe, if you obtain the non-o outside of Thailand you do not have to have insurance, but if you obtain it in Thailand you will have to provide insurance every year. I don't know if that has changed or not, but I don't think so. I wish you good luck and everything works out for you.
  20. I paid 2800 baht for 30 days insurance from AXA. My friend paid 3100 baht. I am not sure but I think my friend had to pay more because he's 79 years old. Just go to the website, enter your information and it will tell you your cost.
  21. I purchased the min of 30 days from AXA's website. Everything went real smooth and had the insurance within a few minutes. The coverage was excellent. It was simply and easy to apply.
  22. A big fuss over a 4 baht bag. First of all, the store you went to , did not offer FREE bags. As the only bags they had were for 4 baht. You can't go to a store and expect them to give you something free that they charge people for. Since you couldn't get something free, you had them refund your money, thinking that would show them. So who did really win? Well, you are in Thailand and they don't give a <deleted> if you come back to their store or not. Second, maybe you should bring your own bag. You don't have to carry it around, just fold it up and put it in your back pocket. That is what I do. Be prepared. Some shops don't have bags any more, some charge for bags and some give them away free. The main thing is I wouldn't lose sleep over having to pay 4 baht.
  23. I had the same issue when I had a package sent to me through UPS. So I stopped using them and only use FedEx or DHL. and now have no issues at all.
  24. From time to time, I have credit cards and important papers sent from the USA to me here in Thailand. The very first time, because the cost was low, I had everything sent by regular USPS. It is tracked only while it is in the USA, after it leaves the USA no more tracking. Plus it took three to four weeks to get here. Since it was taking so long, I started worrying that I would never see it. So from that point on, so I can have peace of mind, plus I wanted my stuff within a week. I started using DHL or FedEx, which ever one had the best price. Yes, it will cost you more money, then sending it by USPS. But for me, it was worth it. Because I never had a problem, plus I could track it every step of the way. You pay for the safer route, peace of mind and it arrives in a min. amount of time. disadvantage, it cost more. Plus another reason was, some of the papers, if they were lost would of costed me a lot more money to replace them.
