  1. Since the teen is 16 years old, than she's a minor and isn't the money suppose to go to the mother for the teen? I don't know if the cut off age is 18 here or maybe it is 16? As no settlements or contracts can be done with a minor. In the USA, if a settlement is done and it is with a minor, (under 18), the money goes to the parents for the minor. I found this: The child is subject to parental control of the parents until the child is legally determined to be an adult. Adulthood occurs when the child reaches the age of majority which is 20 years old in Thailand or when the child gets married. Until this time, parents have rights and obligations to their child.
  2. Yes, I know that Ram Hospital has it, at their Check-In Clinic for 6500 baht per shot. I am going there tomorrow for my shot.
  3. Yes, he had 8 Education Visa (one year each) in a row. The first 4 he was learning to speak, write and read Thai. The next 4 Education Visa was he is working on his Bachelor degree in Science (Nursing). He is getting ready to enter into his last semester and he will graduate in March of next year.
  4. Just like Thailand. they make all of these major statements about all money being taxed, but yet have to sit down and put all of the details in writing. they seem to love to do everything backwards. I have a big question that I don't think has been asked yet? If we have to pay a tax, what is the percentage? I don't think I have read anything on the percent yet, so I figure it would be the same as their rates are now. Anybody have any ideas on this?
  5. Like I said, not all place accept the AMEX card, main reason I feel is they have a bigger transaction fee. Here are some of the places I have used my AMEX card: some of the stores at Central Festival Mall; PTT gas station; and at the following restaurants: Favola (my favorite place to eat); Palette; The House of Ginger; Rasik Local Kitchen; The Redbox; Oxygen Dining Room; Ekachan; China Kitchen to name a few. I am not going to list every place in Chiang Mai. What I do, is carry my AMEX card if I am at a place that accepts it, I use it. If not then I use my VISA card.
  6. I took note on when you said AMEX is not accepted in Thailand. That is 100% false. I use an AMEX card all the time here in Chiang Mai. Yes, there might be one or two stores that don't accept the card, but that's the same with all of the cards. There are stores that don't accept the UnionPay card.
  7. I highly recommend: Express VPN. I have had others over the years and were not satisfied. Main reason, I stream movies from the USA. so when I used Hulu I would be kicked off. Some websites services can detect that I was using a VPN and they don't allow it. So I hunted down a VPN service where I wouldn't have any streaming problems and Express VPN was the one. I have been using them for over 7 years now and no issues at all.
  8. When we first came here, my son received 4 times (years) Education Visa with local language school, back to back. They wouldn't allow him to have a fifth year. So then he went to the University and entered into a degree program and received a Ed.Visa. which he is on his forth year now.
  9. Yes, you can have as many transfers per month as you want, as long as the total for the entire month is over the 65,000 baht requirement. Of course the bank code has to be FTT. I always transfer a min. of 70,000 baht per month, so I don't have an issue with the exchange rate changing on me.
  10. I know everyone has their own reason on what method they are using, either the keeping of 800,000 baht in a Thai bank or the 65,000 baht monthly way. As there is no right or wrong way. As for myself, here is my method. I decided to go with the 65,000 baht per month method. I actually transfer over 100,000 baht each month, simple and easy. As I decided it was a waste to keep 800,000 baht sit in the bank and really not make me any money. So I took my 800,000 baht (actually I keep it in the USA, so it's in dollars) and I invest it monthly in crypto & stocks Buy low, sell high.. Instead of being a "Day Trader", I am a monthly trader. Most months, I almost double my investments. I make a ton more profit from the 800,000 baht instead of letting it rest in a Thai Bank. I might be 73 years old and I have a lot of time on my hands, so playing around with investments gives me something to do with my time. My son is attending CMU working on his bachelor degree. When he graduates, I plan on surprising him with a very large nest egg, so he can start his life on a better foundation then I did.
  11. It's not the agent's responsibility, it's yours and your partners. Prior to signing the lease, you should of done a walk thru. List all & take pictures of all damage issues. Decide at that time, what items the landlord will have fixed and ones that will stay the same, because they are too minor. Your list is attached to your rental agreement as an amendment. Then you sign the agreement and pay the rest of the deposites and etc. Everything must be in writing. Over the years, I have stayed in about 5 places here in Thailand and I have always done it this way. It protects you. This is the way we even did it back in my hometown. The sad thing is you had to learn from your mistakes. I hope it works out for you and your partner. Good luck
  12. I buy a lot of Apple products from the Studio 7 store at Central Festival Mall. They have always given me good service, plus they speak some English, too. Of course, Studio 7 is an authorized Apple dealer, but you also asked for a "real Apple shop", which Thailand has one in Bangkok.
  13. I love eating breakfast, so I have tried a lot of different places in Chiang Mai. And the place I think is the best, is "Chiang Mai Breakfast World". They are located at: 24/1 Moonmuang Rd. (Soi)Lane 250200 Chiang MaiTel. 053 278 209 Another place I like to eat at is, "Butter is Better", the one in the Hang dong area. But again, I highly recommend you try Chiang Mai Breakfast World, you will love it.
  14. It is a very simple answer. You can't stay in Thailand after the expiration date, you must exit.
  15. I am a little puzzled on way you need a second id to do business at the bank. I bank with Bangkok Bank, SCB and K-Bank and the only requirement that I knew of, you have to show your passport. If I ever needed a second picture id, I just show my Thai Driver's License, Just something to think about concerning a US Passport Card. A friend of mine had one and when he used it, some places wouldn't accept it. They said, they never seen a US Passport Card, therefore would only use a real passport, because they thought the card was fake. But my friend told me that story a few years ago, so maybe things have changed since then. Good luck
  16. I had two scrambled eggs, fried potatoes, 2 slices of bacon crispy and a side of wheat toast. With a cold glass of chocolate Ovaltine with milk.
  17. Yes, this is true, if you are not going to use the money transfer for immigration (retirement extension). Because the $25.00 is when you transfer your money in baht. If you are transferring your money for immigration (retirement extension) purposes, then you will have to transfer in US dollars which is a flat $40.00 fee and then the bank code in Thailand will show up as "FTT".
  18. I transfer 100,000 to 140,000 baht every month from my US Bank to my Bangkok Bank using their swift system. My US Bank fee is a flat rate of $40 for any amount and my Bangkok Bank's fee is around 200 to 500 baht depending on the amount. It takes less than 24 hours to arrive into my account here. I notice on average it takes 6 hours to arrive into my account. I do not know if there is a cap on the amount or not. I guess you would have to ask the bank.
  19. Yes, I can assure you I know what I am writing. The key words words are "My all time favorite". I gave you what I like, not what maybe most people would like. Because I do know Oscar Meyer hot dog is not good for you and is pure junk, but for some reason I love the taste of it, compared to all others. Most people I know love the German made ones, but I don't. It doesn't make me wrong or right. I just like what I like. I do agree with your entire statement, except for your first sentence.
  20. My all time favorite is an Oscar Mayer (American Brand) hot dog. Which you can get at "Tops" at Central Festival Mall. And if you are interested, they also carry Oscar Mayer bacon, which puts all Thai bacon to shame.
  21. Thank you for your comments and thoughts. Yes, I will explain why in more detail why I use an agent. I am 73 years old (100% disabled Veteran) and I have a hard time getting around. Because of my health issues, it is more convenient to use an agent. When it is time for my extension, a rep. from the agent's office comes to my house and picks up my passport and bankbook. They go to my bank and start the process and then go back and pick up all of the bank documents. Then they turn it all over to immigration. When it's time for me, they come by pick me up and take me to the back door of the immigration building. I go through the a side door sit down in front of an immigration officer, they take my picture and within 2-3 minutes they give me my passport. Then the agency rep takes me back to the car that is waiting and they take me back home. Bingo, that's it. It cost me a total of 5,900 baht to the agent. I know there are a lot of "agent haters" out there, so hate me if you want. A few years back when I was able, I didn't use an agent and did everything myself. But old age has caught up with me and using an agent benefits me a lot now. Peace out...
  22. I use an agent and I am only at immigrations for 8 minutes. Arrive and 8 minutes later walk away with my retirement extension.
  23. A couple of years ago, I renewed my Thai driver's license and dumb me didn't check the spelling. For my middle name I only use a letter. It Is suppose to be H, but they put on my license a P. One year later I was doing some financial stuff and they wanted two picture id's. They wouldn't complete my paperwork because the two id's didn't match 100%. Of course I argued, as the birthdate and address were the same, but they wouldn't accept it. So I went back and had my driver's lic re-issued with the proper matching name. So my advice to you is to avoid any unknown issues in the future. Go back and get her Thai id corrected, then take it to the bank and update them. I know it's a pain in the butt to do all of that. but I look at it as a learning experience so I don't (your wife) won't make the same mistake again.
  24. I just replaced my old small screened TV. I went to PowerBuy and purchased a Samsung 75" NEO QLED 4K QN95B TV. And I decided I needed a speaker system too. So I also purchased a Samsung Soundbar HW-Q990B, with speakers & woofer. It was just installed last friday and I love it. One of the best purchased I ever made.
  25. I wouldn't tell anyone and invest it all into crypto. Then go back to my normal life...
