  1. Yes I have but not Tik Tok. Circumstances:- Whilst asleep, at 02.30 am my mobile phone buzzed to inform me that my debit card had been used to extract money from my bank account in Malaysian Ringits. My debit card was in my wallet alongside me. Shortly afterwards a second debit was made, also in Ringits. Later during the morning (before my bank opened) two further debits were made in Ringits. I have never been to Malaysia. I went to my bank which cancelled my debit card and issued me with a new one. From my statement record, it transpired all four payments, totalling a mere 14US$ (conversion from Ringits), had been credited to a Facebook account. My bank was extremely helpful and credited the small loss back to my account. Obviously my card had been cloned. Fortunately I took immediate action before potentially large sums were being withdrawn. No problems since and I never found out details of the FB account, but my bank did.
  2. No problem for me at BIGC (pre-covid!). Purchased an "L" size sports shirt and found it was rather tight (typical Thai sizing). Folded it, replaced in BIGC bag along with the receipt and returned to customer service desk at the store. The Thai lady was very courteous, told me to go and select an "XL" and bring back to counter. This I did and there was no extra cost or hassle.
  3. Thanks for the memory. Where I used to live in Lanna, North Thailand, we had a similar blue bus service which operated between Chiang Rai and Lampang which also took hours! The route from Chiang Rai was via Maesuay, Wiang Papao, Maekachan, Wang Nua and Chae Hom. In those days the buses were old, slow and rickety, but provided an interesting tour of around 240 kms taking 7 hours or more (one way!)
  4. For reference from link to OP: The best country in the world goes to Switzerland while the list’s tail end is occupied by Iran. Notably, several Asian nations have secured impressive rankings, including Japan in 6th place, Singapore 16th, China 20th, and South Korea 21st. Among ............. the (ASEAN) countries, Malaysia secured 38th position, followed by Indonesia 41st, the Philippines 43rd, Vietnam 44th, Cambodia 64th, and Myanmar 80th. Well I'm blowed! Burma (Myanmar) doing better than Iran.
  5. Yes indeed. My landlord has a spare set of keys to my apartment. No problem for me should I ever be taken ill.

  7. For reference May 2023:- Putting security at the forefront, Cambodian Interior Ministry and the Ministry of Public Security of China on Saturday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to increase bilateral cooperation to prevent cross-border crime, online fraud and illegal gambling. https://www.khmertimeskh.com/501283275/cambodia-china-sign-new-mou-to-prevent-cross-border-crimes/
  8. Yes indeed. Green Bus is based in Chiang Mai and operates routes in the North of Thailand, mainly in Lanna (not Isaan). The company has smart, modern, air-conditioned single deck coaches which serve many towns and cities from the main bus station (near the Super Highway). There are reasonably frequent services throughout the day to Chiang Rai, Maesai, Maesot, Phayao, Nan, Golden Triangle, Lamphun, Lampang, Chiang Saen and Chiang Khong (both the latter on the Mekong). Whatever destination you choose there will be some scenic mountain views. I was a Tourist Police Volunteer based in Chiang Rai and I often saw Green Bus at various bus stations during patrols. May I suggest a trip to Phayao from Chiang Mai which traverses 2 main mountain ranges (Doi Saket to Mae Khachan then Wang Nua to Phayao). This can be achieved as a day return tour, if you start early in Chiang Mai. However one night in Phayao would give you plenty of time to explore the lakeside with its long promenade. Plenty of bars, restaurants and hotels. (photo of Lake Phayao from mountain road descending to Phayao) Green Bus: https://www.greenbusthailand.com/website/en/services/bus/bus-route

  13. I extend my sympathy to the lad as I have experienced similar discomfort when boiling eggs in a hot spring. Where I lived in Lanna, there were several National Parks with hot springs and one of the attractions was boiling quail eggs in a small wicker basket. In my incident, hot water splashed onto my hand from a sudden eruption. It was extremely painful and I can appreciate the pain this young lad suffered. Get well soon.
