  1. I feel sorry for all the folks who live below the main southern flight path into CNX - Hang Dong in particular. Noisy enough now.
  2. This website may be of interest to you. I live in Siem Reap and this International company IPS (Australian I believe) is reputable and trusted in Cambodia. Although describing Siem Reap, there are links to other cities in the country. Check it out. https://ips-cambodia.com/locations/siem-reap-province/
  3. I wonder if the electricity supply/circuit had been inspected and/or tested during this period??
  4. I have a black plastic bucket alongside my bed!
  5. With respect, never heard of it until today! Worldwide?
  6. Yes indeed - have an Imodium tablet with you!
  7. Yes, very much so. Not only the 70's, 80's and 90's but for me, also the 50's and 60's. As a UK citizen, I lived throughout the reign of Queen Elizabeth 2nd. As a child, I can still remember our local street party to celebrate the Coronation of HM. Reflecting, I think the "swinging" 60's were the most exciting.
  8. What a humiliating laugh! Sub-Lt in the police or military?
  9. With respect, if there had been, maybe the three workers would have been constructing today. Bamboo, as most of you know, is very strong and durable. It can withstand the excessive forces of tropical storms and typhoons if properly lashed together. Used widely in this part of the World. Photo taken in Hong Kong:
  10. Electricity consumption expected to surge in 2027 due to increased use of EVs And a boom in the sales of certain fire extinguishers for vehicles? To put out large lithium-ion battery fires, use a foam extinguisher containing CO2, powder graphite, ABC dry chemical, or sodium carbonate. (google)
  11. Forget Phnom Penh, come to Siem Reap with its post-Covid extensive infrastructure improvements - far more civilised (IMO)
  12. Yes I have but not Tik Tok. Circumstances:- Whilst asleep, at 02.30 am my mobile phone buzzed to inform me that my debit card had been used to extract money from my bank account in Malaysian Ringits. My debit card was in my wallet alongside me. Shortly afterwards a second debit was made, also in Ringits. Later during the morning (before my bank opened) two further debits were made in Ringits. I have never been to Malaysia. I went to my bank which cancelled my debit card and issued me with a new one. From my statement record, it transpired all four payments, totalling a mere 14US$ (conversion from Ringits), had been credited to a Facebook account. My bank was extremely helpful and credited the small loss back to my account. Obviously my card had been cloned. Fortunately I took immediate action before potentially large sums were being withdrawn. No problems since and I never found out details of the FB account, but my bank did.
  13. No problem for me at BIGC (pre-covid!). Purchased an "L" size sports shirt and found it was rather tight (typical Thai sizing). Folded it, replaced in BIGC bag along with the receipt and returned to customer service desk at the store. The Thai lady was very courteous, told me to go and select an "XL" and bring back to counter. This I did and there was no extra cost or hassle.
  14. Thanks for the memory. Where I used to live in Lanna, North Thailand, we had a similar blue bus service which operated between Chiang Rai and Lampang which also took hours! The route from Chiang Rai was via Maesuay, Wiang Papao, Maekachan, Wang Nua and Chae Hom. In those days the buses were old, slow and rickety, but provided an interesting tour of around 240 kms taking 7 hours or more (one way!)
  15. For reference from link to OP: The best country in the world goes to Switzerland while the list’s tail end is occupied by Iran. Notably, several Asian nations have secured impressive rankings, including Japan in 6th place, Singapore 16th, China 20th, and South Korea 21st. Among ............. the (ASEAN) countries, Malaysia secured 38th position, followed by Indonesia 41st, the Philippines 43rd, Vietnam 44th, Cambodia 64th, and Myanmar 80th. Well I'm blowed! Burma (Myanmar) doing better than Iran.
  16. Yes indeed. My landlord has a spare set of keys to my apartment. No problem for me should I ever be taken ill.
  17. how about evens for Russian?
  18. For reference May 2023:- Putting security at the forefront, Cambodian Interior Ministry and the Ministry of Public Security of China on Saturday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to increase bilateral cooperation to prevent cross-border crime, online fraud and illegal gambling. https://www.khmertimeskh.com/501283275/cambodia-china-sign-new-mou-to-prevent-cross-border-crimes/
  19. Yes indeed. Green Bus is based in Chiang Mai and operates routes in the North of Thailand, mainly in Lanna (not Isaan). The company has smart, modern, air-conditioned single deck coaches which serve many towns and cities from the main bus station (near the Super Highway). There are reasonably frequent services throughout the day to Chiang Rai, Maesai, Maesot, Phayao, Nan, Golden Triangle, Lamphun, Lampang, Chiang Saen and Chiang Khong (both the latter on the Mekong). Whatever destination you choose there will be some scenic mountain views. I was a Tourist Police Volunteer based in Chiang Rai and I often saw Green Bus at various bus stations during patrols. May I suggest a trip to Phayao from Chiang Mai which traverses 2 main mountain ranges (Doi Saket to Mae Khachan then Wang Nua to Phayao). This can be achieved as a day return tour, if you start early in Chiang Mai. However one night in Phayao would give you plenty of time to explore the lakeside with its long promenade. Plenty of bars, restaurants and hotels. (photo of Lake Phayao from mountain road descending to Phayao) Green Bus: https://www.greenbusthailand.com/website/en/services/bus/bus-route
  20. If you are passing, would you care to drop in some time!
