Yes indeed. For reference from Cambodian media : Critics of Thailand’s initiative say it risks legitimising Myanmar’s military government and is inappropriate because it is outside the official ASEAN peace initiative, known as the “five-point consensus”......................................... Others questioned why Thailand called the talks now, when it is expected to have a new government in August after the pro-military coalition was soundly beaten....................................................... Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn was to attend the meeting, his government said in a statement on Friday............................................. Other ASEAN members have declined Thailand’s invitation, including this year’s chair, Indonesia, as well Singapore, whose foreign minister.................... said on Friday “it would be premature to re-engage with the junta at a summit level or even at a foreign minister level”...............................................Vietnam’s government said its foreign minister would not attend “due to a prior engagement”. https://www.khmertimeskh.com/501310388/key-asean-members-skip-thai-hosted-myanmar-talks-amid-criticism-only-cambodia-to-attend/ Amid a presumed snub by some Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states which did not participate at a meeting in Thailand, Prime Minister Hun Sen yesterday raised concern over the worsening situation in the Myanmar conflict. https://www.khmertimeskh.com/501310751/out-of-hand-pm-voices-concern-over-worsening-situation-in-myanmar/

Cambodia Visa Issues
Burma Bill replied to Scoobydoo1's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Thanks. The official cost for a Cambodian tourist or ordinary visa on entry by land, sea or air is $30. This is what I paid every time I entered Cambodia by air (Thai Air Asia) at Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. However, when I visited Battambang (no airport) I used the Poipet land border crossing and, as stated above, I paid 1500 baht to a fixer. Despite all the casino buildings, there are no $ATM's before Cambodian Immigration. Maybe one can buy $ from a casino reception? When entering Cambodia by air there are $ATM's in the arrival halls before proceeding to Immigration desks. No problems for me these days as I now live in Cambodia and my annual retirement visa INCLUDES multiple re-enteries at no extra cost. 90 Day notifications do not exist. -
Yes indeed and thanks. Your photos brought back happy memories of my 4 years as a Tourist Police Volunteer based in Chiang Rai. One of my favourite spots was Doi Tung (out of high season) up in the mountains where I took lunch and admired the beautiful gardens and Swiss style chalet created by HM The King Mother.(my photo - the chalet is behind the trees, top right)

Lots of dosh - yes indeed and good luck to him. In one business deal in 2008 when he sold Manchester City Football Club (UK) to Arab buyers he made a LOT of cash: Outgoing Manchester City owner Thaksin Shinawatra stands to make a profit of more than £50million when the sale of the club to Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan finally goes through today. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1060029/50million-That-8217-s-Thaksin-Shinawatra-selling-Manchester-City-mega-rich-Arabs.html

Thaksin Insists On Returning Next Month Despite Family’s Warning
Burma Bill replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Rubbish, Thaksin IS a Thai citizen and definitely not a Chinese criminal. For reference Wikipedia:- Thaksin's great-grandfather, Seng Saekhu, was an immigrant from Meizhou, Guangdong, China, who arrived in Siam in the 1860s and settled in Chiang Mai in 1908. His eldest son, Chiang Saekhu, was born in Chanthaburi in 1890 and married a local named Saeng Samana. Chiang's eldest son, Sak, adopted the Thai surname Shinawatra in 1938 because of the country's anti-Chinese movement, and the rest of the family also adopted it.[9] Thaksin was born in San Kamphaeng, Chiang Mai Province. He is a Theravada Buddhist. He lived in the village of San Kamphaeng until he was 15, then moved to Chiang Mai to study at Montfort College. At 16, he helped run one of his father's cinemas.[11] -
Chonburi Lottery Winner Uses 240,000 Baht of Winnings to “Feed” Ghosts
Burma Bill replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
inteesting, nowhere in the article was a Thai organiser mentioned however many comments regarding the mental state/cultural beliefs of Thai people. IMO it suggests a Chinese organiser. Whatever, from the photo it appears the "Ghostbusters" have done their job! -
Yes very much so - and thanks! As a country bumpkin, I lived in Lanna during the tenures of both Thaksin and Yingluk's governments. May I suggest the garbage is coming from "southerners" who have never lived in the North or during the two Governments I have mentioned. The Shinawatras brought prosperity, investment, agricultural modernisation, infrastructure improvements and telecommunication modernisation to the North and I thank them for this. This is why they are idolised by so many millions of Thais (and some farangs) to this day. Public money was shifted for investment in the North and not Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket etc. etc.
