Why not catch a few and serve them for lunch - yummy!! In general, they (Herons) are boned and filled with a minced meat and suet stuffing, seasoned with spices and oysters, then poached. Sometimes they are baked in ovens. (Google)

Having read so many posts "for" and "against" a cashless society, may I inform you that I (and perhaps a few more of you) cannot use a smartphone with QR codes due to mobility/disability problems with fingers. In my case many years of sports injuries associated with football (soccer). To try and use the mini touch screen keypad is almost impossible for me. I still use my 3G mobile phone with it's old style keypad and my debit card when "going cashless". At home I have an ACER computer work station, with printer, for all my business and social media - all products of the 21st Century! For those who may ridicule this post, please remember, one day you will be old and may suffer from arthritis.

The only major stop is Uttaradit. Den Chai is a busy town at a major road junction where road routes from Chiang Mai, Mae Sai, Chiang Rai, Phayao and Nan meet to head south. I have never stopped to visit Uttaradit, only travelling through by train, bus or car. Sorry I cannot be of further assistance.

Thai Mobile Banking Apps Crash On Payday, Transfers Put Off

Great - one in the face for the "cashless society" brigade!! -
Very much so, and I used it regularly for all my Air Asia Fly-Thru flights to Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Burma. Very handy indeed - avoided the Immigration queues at DMK. The service at Khon Kaen was paid for by Air Asia for its "Fly-Thru" international passengers ONLY. Of interest to me, the desk was often manned by my local "friendly" Immigration Officer. This was pre-pandemic.

May I respectfully make a suggestion. Take an inter-provincial bus from Khon Kaen to Phitsanulok (route 12 all the way via Chumphae and Lomsak, with fantastic scenery.) At Phitsanulok change onto the Northern Line for Chiang Mai via Uttaradit, Den Chai and Lampang. This is the most scenic section of the railway as it heads through the mountains to CNX. Insect Warning.....Kill them, Kill them........NOW
Burma Bill replied to redwood1's topic in General Topics
Yes indeed. Can be exterminated using insecticide from an aerosol spray can - just look for a picture of a cockroach on the side of the can. This method always worked for me. For reference: -
with respect, maybe so for urban areas and tourist resorts, but for many living in rural areas where the nearest bank is many kilometres away, keeping money in hands for 24/7 is the most convenient and safest for many folk. For example where I lived in the mountains above Phayao, the nearest bank was 45 kms away. Okay for me with my car, but for the locals with motorbikes, a winding drive on a mountain road - no way - and certainly not "available to her whenever she wants".

Yes indeed, a "rubbish' post. The poster has probably never lived in rural Thailand, especially in the North where I did for 20 years. A QR code was totally useless in the local markets and ma & pa shops where it was "cash only" (including our local ex-pat bar!!)

Time To Think About The Tour De Thailand 2024
Burma Bill replied to webfact's topic in Hua Hin and Cha-Am News
With respect, all, I hope but I do remeber the horrific accident back in 2015 when I lived in Northern Thailand: (for bikers read cyclists). The cyclists were members of San Sai Cycling Club in Chiang Mai. SUNDAY, MAY 03, 2015 Three were killed and two others were badly injured when a speeding car driven by an allegedly drunk university student hit into the rear of a group of 20 bikers who were making morning exercise ride in Chiang Mai's Doi Saket at 6:15 am Sunday, police said. Witnesses told police that the bikers were riding in a row on the left lane and the car hit them at the speed of at least 100 kilometers per hour. https://www.nationthailand.com/in-focus/30259251 -
As a retiree in Cambodia, may I clarify an important point of interest to me as I use FB to keep in contact with family and friends around the World. From today's Khmer media: "Prime Minister Hun Sen has announced that he will not shut down Facebook in the Kingdom as people need to use it." (many tourists) https://www.khmertimeskh.com/501317346/pm-announces-not-to-shut-down-facebook-in-cambodia/ What is not published in Thailand is his problem with Tik Tok as well: "Prime Minister Hun has warned Cambodians of numerous fake TikTok accounts bearing his name and likeness" https://www.khmertimeskh.com/501317109/pm-warns-of-fake-tiktok-accounts/ and I thought the Chinese were his friends!

For reference: It is south of Chiang Mai off Southern ring route 108 to Mae Hong Son near the Doi Inthanon National Park. Take route 108 south to Ban Mon Hin where turn right onto minor route 3033 which will take you to Ban Pae Sub-District. About 90kms - 1 1/2 hours drive from CNX. Map - sorry, the best I can do.

Thanks for the memory - Kai Tak in Hong Kong. I had a mind boggling descent in a BA747 among the tall buildings to land on the runway built in the sea. Fornebu Airport in Oslo (Norway) was another I experienced on several visits before the new airport at Gardemoen was opened. Photo of Fornebu airport built in Oslofjord: Don Mueang has nothing to compare with Kai Tak and Fornebu!!
