The Burmese didn't stay after sacking Ayutthaya. They took what they wanted and went back to Burma.

    Because their visas had expired?

The Thais actual colonized the land they are on today.

So how come Thais don't have to do a TM30?

colonised most of the bars and Gogos in Pattaya with some sort of treaty so that the UK can share half of Soi 6

At least we got that bit right!

  2. Chinese don’t trust banks and don’t pay tax. It’s also difficult to get large amounts out of China.

Therefore, quite normal for Chinese to carry large amounts of cash in a plastic bag. Who knows how or where it came from (laundered into Thailand).

I recall selling a car to the owners of a Chinese take away restaurant in the uk, they arrived with the cash in a plastic bag…. Some take away!

I wonder just how much money is pouring into Thailand in this way and how many properties they own? Never mind 'take away', looks more like 'take over'.

I like your thinking. Wouldn't it be lovely if there was a conduit between farang and Thai imm. I think there is some input groups but the frustrating thing is very difficult to voice an opinion here in los. I wonder what would be outcome of peaceful  quiet sit down protest at entry of CW re TM30 nonsense. Rhetorical question.

Lots o luck getting the Farangs to come together and protest. A sit down protest at immigration? I don't think they'd notice the difference! I would like to see a way we could band together and petition immigration to get rid of the TM30 and 90 day report.

  4. I have no idea what the Thai call it, but you may be using a fuel that is too low octane for your car. The other cause used to be incorrect ignition timing, but on modern cars this is not adjustable.

Timing chains and valve gear can make similar noises so you may want to rule these out.

  5. Siam Commercial Bank (SCB... Soi Cowboy Bank). Went there and tried to open an FCD account.

They wanted a work permit. How is anyone with a retirement visa supposed to have a work permit? Stupid!

They asked where my money came from, saying I must show salary in Thailand. More stupid!

I left the bank disgusted, will try a different one. I swear the Thais have not only failed to progress, they have regressed.

  6. Have you considered having it transferred into a £ Sterling account at a Thai bank? Leave it there until after Brexit, when hopefully, it will eventually improve. Then transfer into Baht at a better rate.

I am informed that immigration will accept £ and US$ accounts as evidence of your 800k for the visa, though I have yet to confirm this myself. Like all things here, it may depend on the mood of the IO!

  7. Signs of earlier respray at the front, I'll wager this is not the first time he's shunted the car. Why is it such vehicles are often seen in the hands of idiots who can't drive? Porsche's are unpredictable, easy to get a case of the tail wagging the dog. Looks like he spun it all on his own.... genius.

Interesting, so it is possible to temporarily import a car into Thailand.

NO cruelty...it's confirmed, everything is as it seems...move along....

Yeah, sure, just like there is no prostitution.

I have not been to this particular zoo, but have seen in other places that the animals are used (abused) to make money for the Thais who own the place.

Animals do not belong in prisons.

What baffles me everytime i read these kind of tragedies is the amount of people falling from balconies every year in Thailand. There is no country in the world where so many people drop down from a balcony. In most cases it was stupidity, drunk or drugs involved. I can not believe such. Why don't they just improve those balconies, so people stop falling from them?

Be baffled no longer.... In Thailand it usually comes down to, did they fall or were they pushed?

  10. Girlfriend of Frenchman jumps... were they playing leapfrog?

Thais are amazingly tough, how did she survive? I hope she lives to tell her tale... which I suspect will be most interesting.

Have you noticed that when Farang falls the BIB say it's suicide, but when a Thai falls......

Whether he's to blame or not, our Frenchman had better have deep pockets.

Bought and sold loads of cars here over the years ( taxes etc ) this is the very first time I’ve heard of unpaid fines having to be paid.

    Is this first hand info?

I never pay my tickets, straight in the bin!

Sent from my iPhone using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

Yes JaiLai, this is first hand info, actually happened to me, buy then anything can happen in Disneyland. I bought a car and the Police office in the Chatuchak LTO gave me all the previous owners fines, which I had to pay if I wanted it registered in my name. Later, I confronted the previous owner who denied all.

This being Thailand, I suspect every office is different!

The LTO I now use has no Police dept.
