It's a false narrative that the only people that have issues with the immigration changes are people that filed false affidavits in the past.

It's Pretty logical they make up the majority. Nothing false about that and hard to believe others with the $$$ are supporting their false affidavit "brothers" by making a stance and leaving as well. If they leave its just the normal grass is greener goggles on, nothing wrong with that either.

You're right Thailand surely isn't the place it was and I certainly couldn't live there full time. Without my lovely wife and family, I would have slammed the door shut long ago. But we are where we are and given those considerations I'm punting Jomtiem as the most convenient/cost effective place to put down some roots (if you have to). Very important not to burn your bridges un your home country too - that can be a true lifeline.

Take her with you and get your kids a real education

There was some element of that, though not nearly as widespread as you seem to believe, IMHO.... But you're living in a dream world if you think the income affidavits issue is the ONLY or MAIN thing driving negative feelings here these days....

People in general, I think, want some sense of security, some sense of predictability, that the arrangements they've made for living here, deemed acceptable when they moved, are going to continue more or less intact.  Sadly, that security/dependability simply doesn't exist here anymore.

what's changed ? still 800k (maintaining 400k but no biggie if you got 8 you got 4) and 65 k

Who is living in dream world? The only thing changed are the free loaders from the big 4 are screwed and who just happen to make up the BIGGEST expat numbers now making the loudest noise. Just see how quiet it gets on TV when these bums have used their last BS stat dec/ affidavit from january so next year around june they are out !!

What idiot would leave if they had the $$$ and were happy here? thats rhetorical ????

Voltaren Gel has two black box warnings that are common to all NSAIDs. The first is that, as with other NSAIDs, there may be an increased risk of serious or possibly fatal cardiovascular events, heart attack, or stroke with the use of Voltaren Gel. These can happen without warning.Mar 22, 2019

people believe nsaids the cure all of pain but they are far from harmless.

rare and usually involves undiagnosed issues. Without these drugs people would end up depressed from being housebound

The shoe box, as you love to phrase it, is a lot better than what a lot of your countrymen can afford. Don,t knock a roof over your head.At least here one can survive without sleeping in the streets which is now common place in “The lucky country”

What nonsense. Anybody can get share accommodation in oz for $70 a week and then knock off rent assistance and call it $50 and free medicare and nearly free meds.

Or stay in a moldy old 5k room the dark side and die on the floor because no money to pay even the ambulance to hospital

Maybe, but bears repeating as you see plenty of people with diabetes, obesity, heart disease, pulmonary problems, and ambulatory problems. Engaging in lifestyle choices which put you at risk for future health problems is also very common.

So what country should they go to? Pretty sure anywhere would be high risk or am I missing something and Thailand is the worst place in the world

About 60+% thus far saying NO to Thailand in one flavor or the other....in terms of recommending Thailand as a retirement destination.

I'm pretty sure I'm safe in saying that 10 years ago if we had asked the same question/survey here, no way would the answers re Thailand as a retirement destination be anywhere near as negative as they are now.

10 years ago the big 4 embassies issued BS affidavits. tens of thousands lived here without a bean in the bank. Ya reckon that may have had something to do with the warm n fuzzys.

They are the ones crying now but that's life, sometimes it bites your backside.

She is a housewife, owns a house in 23 rai and several other plots.

I support her (and have done so for 13 years) and can evidence sizeable assets and income.

I just want to know if the application is any different to an Aussie applying to take his wife. Obviously, I have no long-term ambitions for her to be in Oz (unlike most Australians who may be looking to eventually settle their wives). This would be a holiday with pre-booked flights back to Thailand.

No sense of any humanitarianism at all as we recently watched a 77 year old Alzheimer's patient forced out of the country because she could no longer meet the newly changed Retirement Visa rules - but worse imho was that she has a serious Medical Condition - Alzheimer's

How much thought did you put into writing that..none? The woman DOES NOT have 800k or an income. If the daughter gets fed up and walks or passes away what then? a 77 year old living on the streets or ending up in hospital NOT paying the bill..Again !!!

    try to think please

I am a British passport holder and I am considering taking my Thai wife to Australia for a holiday of up to one month.

Obviously, my application is simple - but are there any particular hoops to jump through for a Thai partner of a non-Australian?

Of course . There would be many hoops even if you were an ozzie let alone a tourist. Obviously there are a zillion hookers in SEA and oz doesn't want them taking advantage of the pay bump and overstaying.

Is she employed and how about long term savings?
