People cant seem to understand.. Doesnt matter if the insurance is useless and wont pay out.. Its the price of admission and a system of generating more revenue for Thailand..

Pay the price or plan other options.

Dead right. The problem is Thailand is miles ahead of anywhere else as a retirement destination AND they know it. Ten thousand expats running wont even register as a blip on the radar and lets face it the majority of them are obviously poor pensioners That Thailand do not want.

  2. "Still, some developers remain sanguine. Sansiri Pcl says it continues to see "real demand" from foreign purchasers despite recent challenges, adding they account for as much as 30% of the firm’s sales.

Knight Frank believes the glut and falling prices may be short lived, citing Bangkok’s resilience and planned infrastructure projects that will renew the city.

Ask anyone who’s been in property how many times they’ve heard the bubble will burst?,” the firm’s Bangkok-based head of residential, Frank Khan, said. “I’ve heard this more than 10 times, but in my last 15 years, it’s never burst.”"

update on my post 296, just been in talks with a close friend, he had skin cancer on his arm, a few years ago,  two biopsy operations, and his total outlay was 6,500 baht so i ask once again, who concocted this this rediculous figure of 40,000 baht for out patient care. they havent got a bloody clue.

Thats their problem. get a policy from your own country and forget about it

It was not for me, just answering another poster.

But im not sure if you can get non O, from an outside embassy?

    I think they offer O-A.

Anyway, your plan would work even if just come in on tourist visa then apply for O later, as you said.

But I think many would have a problem about putting 800k in a Thai bank because some exchange rates are now very poor.

I guess this is why people prefer the O-A from own country as you can show equal to 800k baht in your own country bank account currency.

Im sure now they will have nobody get this visa if you must pay a fortune for what is useless insurance cover.

The whole thing is a completely useless exercise anyway

some foriegner who didnt pay bills would have racked up millions in some cases..

but this insurance covers what? 400k?

    LOL

so the hospital is gauranteed to get back 400k frim insurance company, but what about if is a majour surgery that cost

    3million?

the foriegner is then ok to run away without paying the other 2,600,000?

      lol

Its clearly stated that you can have insurance from your own country. you do NOT have to take out Thai insurance. For some reason farang choose to ignore this factual statement

Why should I...it sadly is the truth..in addition the same party told me in December of last year about the changes re money in bank before/after renewal of extensions.
Up to you if you want to believe me.
Remember this..expats got only 4/5 weeks notice re money in Thai banks etc prior to think it was 1st of March.emoji6.png

  6. Lost my redmi note 3 so bought a quick and dirty phone from lazada to use as a back up while I decide what phone I really want

AMAZING this thing does everything the redmi note did, just as fast and smooth scrolling. Comes with a clear plastic back protector and a screen protector and ear phones at a fraction of the cost

Xaimoi be damned Im sticking with this! good specs for the price

  7. looking at their link for Bangkok insurance its very reasonable . Between 50 and 60 years its approx 50k. Whats wrong with that.

its staggering the amount of expats living here with NO insurance!!  if your 70 then go home for gods sakes where you can be taken care of in an emergency..which is just around the corner , not everyone dies in their sleep

There are several print/frame shops around Phrom Phung on both sides of Sukhumvit, one at the corner of soi 26. These shops are very expensive in my own experience having some prints framed. There is an excellent shop on Sukhumvit, between Ekkamai and Phra Khanong, even soi side past the golf driving range going towards Phra Khanong.  Reasonably priced but excellent quality in my experience.

Thanks for the info. As always the frame will probably cost more than the PIC

Will probably still need travel insurance, and the cost of 4 return air flights ain't cheap - probably more expensive than the "mandatory health insurance"

There more to it. Im paying 56k baht a year for just one med here there is no generic for. Going back to OZ it costs 2k per years under there PBS system. I wouldn't go back just for that though but after 12 years its time for a change and come back to BKK twice a year and check into the nana hotel for a blast as a tourist like I use to before becoming "expat"
