Why do they never stop at Zebra Crossings?
scorecard replied to Robert_Smith's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Several times in uni classes international exchange students have raised this subject. Two common responses from the Thai students: - There's no law to say drivers have to stop. - Cannot be law because it would disrupt the traffic flow too much. -

Sure but the reality is that cops on motorcycles are also offenders re zebra crossings. Recall the young cop who killed a respected doctor on a zebra crossing outside Chula. hospital 18 months ago. -
Should I stay ou should I go? (Pattaya, Phuket)
scorecard replied to Franck60's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Perhaps you should seriously ask yourself 'Why did I not visit Pattaya and Phuket earlier?' Is the reason that you had read / heard so much negative about P and P that you crossed both places off the list? If true that perhaps suggests the bar girl scenario just doesn't interest you (it's not compulsory). If true why add these places now? -
Passenger Sat by Deceased Woman: Qatar Airways Offers Support

Do you mean drop dead bodies out the back door on a string, then pull them in just before arrival? Would need a detailed set of regulations of course. Better would be to totally ban passenger death during a flight. -

Sure, In most Australian states (maybe all) using a cellphone at any time when you are behind the wheel is totally forbidden no matter what the circumstances, and very severe punishments applied. And the above strongly endorsed by the public. And as mentioned using a cellphone while going through a school area you're toast the punishment is very severe, probably including license cancelled for life. And the above strongly endorsed by the public. -

And there may well be international regulations about a passenger : toilets ration per aircraft type / passenger capacity. This might mean totally closing 1 toilet would not be allowed by regulations. -
Passenger Sat by Deceased Woman: Qatar Airways Offers Support

Forty + years ago I took an Alitalia flight which was en route to Rome. Full flight. Halfway across the Australian continent an old Italian lady passed away. The death was announced and the Alitalia captain informed the passengers 'I will discuss what action to take with my crew and keep you informed. Ten minutes later: - You have probably noticed the aircraft has changed direction and we are headed back to Melbourne because of Australian laws, international laws and Alitalia regulations we must return to the departure point (this was about midnight). - The deceased lady has been properly wrapped and her body has been moved to the rear galley area and that area has been locked. - When we arrive in Melbourne I will have further discussions with the Aust. authorities and then advise you further. -

... you mentioned 'when harsh punishments' and I agree. Try most / all states in Australia, don't stop at a standard zebra crossing (lights or no light)s and there's serious punishment. Second offence and you're bankrupt, third offense mandatory 12 months jail and license cancelled for life. Don't stop eta school zebra crossing (manned or unmanned) and all the above punishments are even much more severe and in many states include without payment manning school crossings 3 or 4 times every day and in some states a big sign on your back 'I didn't stop, I have to do this community service for 5 years!'. And like in any country the neighbors will know quickly about any such offense and they are punished (ignored) by the local community. -

"The problem with this is that they are knowingly running directly against the now crystal clear position of Donald Trump to wash his hands of Zelensky ..." Not a proven fact, Just your opinion, nothing more. Ukraine has massive deposits of rare earths, lithium etc., etc., extremely valuable to the US. Trump would be way out of line in his responsibilities to the US if he let access to that slip away because of his massive ego.

Give him 5 minutes, he'll find a reason to argue with 7/11. -
The video shots of that meeting shows a total of 14, then 16 people in he room. Is that normal. Other references say that it's not normal for the US VP to be in the room and certainly not joining the conversation. Other references suggest that this would be a very much structured meeting with talking points / decisions already well known. So what's the deal here ? And why 14 / 16 people in the room?

Did Trump bring shame upon the US with his Zelensky lecture?

Rubbish. Putin started the war that's very clear. Orange man is getting lotos of air time, that's what he wants. He's not a negotiator, never has been. -

"...Trump cut the meeting short with Zelensky, said the Ukrainian leader is "not ready" for peace with Russia ..." Just trumps very biased opinion. Nothing more. And trump is hardly the person to make such serious critical statements, his list of big lies and mistruths would choke a horse. -
