  1. And added to the question marks, I add 'Would you trust the paymaster, or any of the senior persons involved?' My thinking is NO!
  2. I'm thinking: don't pull out of any of these agreements, punishment probably automatic and very severe. And don't pull out of any personal relationships. Could get your hands chopped off.
  3. And keep in mind (same as the labour office will do) that nobody can prevent you from free movement of your choice. You are a human being, not a slave and therefore you are totally entitled to decide your own movements. This is well established in by international laws which Thailand is a signatory to. A contract of employment which says you can't 'move' for 2 years would not be legal. But a contract which sys you most give 30 days notice would be a legal contract. As already stated, go quickly to a labour office, their staff are experts on the laws involved, always good listeners, always good English available, always very balanced and same treatment / advice for Thai and foreign employees.
  4. But no mention of the design work. Could be a poor / inappropriate design but built to that design.
  5. But unfortunately the CCTV was down on that day for repairs.
  6. Plus transport to / from Pattaya is expensive and often a massive rip off, is too far. And services at this lame airport are less than interesting / satisfactory.
  7. And probably, safety codes should be enhanced so that buildings are stronger and much less likely to collapse.
  8. Depends where. In many areas of Bangkok there's an option: - Walk up numerous steep stairs then down the other side. Quite some task for older folks. - Use a zebra crossing - but with some danger. But it depends on other factors. This in Ram Rod, near the hotel I use when lecturing in Bkk there's a zebra crossing and there's many footpath food vendors who are pleasant but don't upset them They seem to take turns when they see older folks want to cross but no vehicles will stop. One, sometimes two food vendors step out onto the crossing seriously flagging cars to stop, then they walk across holding the hand of the elderly person. If a car doesn't attempt to stop one food vendor kicks the car as it passes. What's also taken foot is the food vendors on the other side of RAM road are doing the same thing. Plus the wife of an employee of a major retailer nearby has set up a distribution point for free walking frames. And the wealthy owner of my hotel helps by giving one food vendor some cash to pay the very close by motor cycle boys to take the older folks home for free after shopping. There a manned police box right at the zebra crossing, the cops on duty totally ignore the whole scenario, never offer any help to stop vehicles at the zebra crossing.
  9. Agree, maybe the car is still under finance therefore dealer can control where it's repaired?
  10. So what do you suggest, stay home 24/7 and don't go to work, don't shop for food ? What other options do Thai pedestrians have?
  11. Maybe the parent wanted to convert the Sizzler chain to cash to engage in another business activity where they strongly anticipate better returns for the capital invested.
  12. 1. Pricing is controlled / managed / decided in their national HQ within the CP group - 7/11 enterprise. They use software / policies which are supplied by the 7/11 International HQ in Japan. 2. 7/11 use sophisticated software (developed in Japan) using stock management / supply chain / sales data to decide what stock should be in each store, and yes the stock can be a little different in shops close together.
  13. That's not what I said or alluded to. "Might as well flip a coin because it really doesn't matter either way, right?" I didn't suggest that and I never would suggest that. Like any human being I would prefer to live in a country which has a low accident / injury / death toll/ from traffic accidents. duced too.
  14. I've rented houses before and learned the lesson from bad experiences to monitor that the rent payments are always paid on time. One day late and an e.mail or SMS or phone reminder. Also regularly (perhaps every 30 to 45 days) inspect the property for any damage, anything disappeared etc. It does happen. And I never give any rental deposit refund until I have proof that all bills are paid / cancelled, and I've done the inspection, and there's a written agreement who arranges and who pays for any repairs and an agreed completion date. If all is in order I transfer the refund the same day. My 2 worst experiences: - A Russian family. - A brit husband and wife.
  15. Very true. The new breed parties can win large numbers of seats, that's proven. But they can't yet control or push aside the old guard especially the parties controlled by old military diehards who will and can rip up the results lists. Plus although they will deny it they they still engage in vote buying. And they still have access to big money Tony. It will eventually change and the new guys will have to persevere for that change a long time into the future, and I wish them well.
  16. But from my understanding not many Thai companies operate provident funds. Keep in mind that a provident fund needs well educated staff to plan / execute investments and if you take Thai bank interest on savings accounts as an example there returns are tiny.
  17. OK, but a professional growth fund will bring better returns long-term. Is there risk? Yes but there's risk in everything. But the very professional growth funds manage risk very closely and very well. Buy a house and it could suffer a drop / a big drop in value because of the nearby neighborhood. Plus the market can be very volatile and the sell price go up, or go down because the area is longer popular etc.
  18. Thank you treetops, fixed both items, much appreciated.
  19. 1. I click on the Chrome 3 dots, drop downs appear but the font is tiny. How can I increase the size of the font? 2. In a string across the bottom of my screen numerous icons etc. But each 'icon image' is tiny, how can I increase the size? Using Windows 11. I've searches for help but all the 'help' lists mention items / factors etc., that I can't find. All advice much appreciated, thanks.

  21. I'm aware of one company which has a big operation in Thailand md in other countries: - Tokio Marine. (Ignore the 'marine' bit that ancient history. - Giant in Japan, meets all the very serious continuous tests required to operate in Japan. - They have a very big office in the Sathorn area of Bkk, in CM and in other big Thai regional centers. - Plenty of English. Pleasant staff, very helpful, no push. - They offer many products including many diverse pension plans. Some quite different in set up to typical western plans. - Also car, health insurance plans.
  22. Quote: "I can see it is a sensitive subject for some people who might be ashamed and would like it to be not discussed and forgotten and I understand that but it is an interesting topic for most." I find it offensive that you use the word ashamed. I'm aware of many foreigners who met their Thai wives in Thailand in circumstances which have no shame whatever and are insulted for themselves and for their wives at any suggestion of shame. My Thai wife (sadly now passed on) was a doctor of medicine plus she held 2 medical board specialities.
