  1. I didn't say that or suggest that in any way. Just your unsuccessful attempt to deflect and to, perhaps, suggest they are all good guys, which they aren't. I mentioned 'high profile global charity'. I've had a different experience with this group, their Thailand / S.E.Asia leader (Filipino lady) called my office in Bkk about 1:00 pm and proceeded to abuse a new junior staff member because she couldn't instantly transfer her to a highly experienced expert about the structure of non-profit organizations. She left a number, I called back and also got abused. She finished the call by saying 'I expect you to be in my office in Manila tomorrow morning at 09:00 with a contract to be signed'. and she hung up. That didn't happen. After some further discussions my company did provide some expert advice but only after I added some clauses to the contract refusing to work with Ms. xxxxx, which was endorsed by the client. But she ignored that, the morning the project was to start I, and my 2 staff members, were invited to join their regional team for breakfast at the 5 star hotel they were staying at. The Filipino lady mentioned was continuously abusing the young hotel staff. After breakfast I confronted her say 'the signed contract states that you will not participate in the work, are you going to honor that clause.?' She responded 'maybe', I responded 'the only answer is yes I will honor that clause in the contract or we will not start the work'. She then withdrew. ) Another factor, another senior person from this organization called me to insist that I be available at a date / time to be advised by this organization for a photo-op at a Bkk 6 star hotel with their most senior person, from their California HO when she was signing the contract. The lady from California did come with a 2 person entourage, and in a discussion with one of the entourage we discovered all three had flown business class (proven with documentation) from the US to Bangkok. Great way to spend donations given by donors who believe their blurb that every cent is spent on a needy child. Life's a puzzle, some folks achieve big, become rich and live a very comfortable life. Others don't which is sad and unfortunately there's no special formula to make all people rich or well off. That's capitalism at work. There is, I believe, a case to say the elected government of any / all countries should have polices / be active to provide better education for all, equal opportunities for all, better quality of life etc., for all. In the case of the hill tribe peoples there is no elected government and alternative organizations such as the united nations, the world bank, ASEAN etc., have achieved nothing for these people, worst of all being that they have no actual status as people, they cannot (even in 2025) get a passport etc. But there is a case to say that developing the basic skills of reading and writing is a step forward.
  2. Sure but it's not that simple. The American I mentioned was employed by one of the world's biggest / very high profile children's charities, formed / financed controlled by a Mainstream big name Christian church based in California. Seems that the have very successful methods to gain the attention / confidence of Children, and an early item is learning (with a lot of fun) to read English, then comprehend then speak read and write English and learn to read and comprehend the bible. At the same time families have their accommodation, food, clothing, transport upgraded, so they get to respect and follow the missionaries, and work together with the missionaries.
  3. Twenty years back I was invited to conduct one full day lecture every week end for a year re the impact of leadership behaviors on motivation and performance. This was at a Thai university which conducted a one year week-end program 'Executive MBA - Motivation and Leadership'. Total of about 25 students, most between 30 and 45 years old, 50/50 Thai and foreign* students (*some were foreigners who had been working in Thailand longer-term and some were exchange students, signed up to attend this specific program.) One guy (American) arrived 1 hour late, quickly walked over to me, interrupted as I explaining an important point. I asked him to sit down, he didn't and he requested that I start the lecture again. Several other students (Thai and foreign) instantly told him to sit down and be quiet, they also apologized to me and asked that I continue. At the coffee break the American approached me and tried to insist I repeat the first hour again in the lunch break. I refused. I asked him what work / activity he was doing in Thailand. His response 'teaching English to hilltribe people'. Another foreign student was listening and said 'yes, so they can read the bible and so he can threaten them with punishment from god if they disobeyed (disobey the American). I had been using a set of PowerPoint slides which are the intellectual property / copyright of my own company, all coming from respected long-term global research. The students had been given paper handouts which gave a very big picture of the salient points but no graphics or further explanations, all because of copyright. Before the lecture started the handout content and the strict copyright of the original PowerPoint slides was well explained and I told the students they needed to add their own further notes as I spoke. AT the lunch break, as soon as I stopped the lecture a Thai student quickly said to me (as he was pointing) the American is doing something with your notebook. I stepped quickly to my notebook and discovered he had inserted a thumb drive. I asked 'what are you doing?' 'I want a copy of your PowerPoint file.' I responded 'I told you earlier / very clearly they have full copyright.' He continued 'but I'm sure god will allow you to give me a copy'. He then asked me to sit down and asked me to hold my hands in a prayer position. He said "I will now pray to god to give you permission to give me a copy of the file". I puller the thumb drive out of my notebook and asked a student to open the thumb drive and see if my file / part of my copyrighted work had been downloaded to the thumb drive. About 20% of the file had been downloaded. I then asked the student to remove my content from the thumb drive. Mr. America was not perturbed, but commented 'You are disrespecting gods' desires'. Mr. America didn't attend the fifth and fourth lesson. Then I got a phone call from the dean "your student is in the lock up, waiting for a judge to sentence him". I asked 'do you know what he had done?" Dean responded "yes, it seems for at least 2 years he has been take young hill tribe boys (13 to 17 years old) to his house to work for him 2 or 3 days each week. Much more recently he asked a 17 year old boy to come to his house, the boy came but discovered that all the other boys (apparently about 10 in total) very all nude and Mr. America was fondling their front parts and their rear parts. The boy fled and went home and told his parents. The boys father is a senior regional cop. In fact that family not hill tribe people. The father quickly questioned several other boys, they all confirmed Mr. America's activities. Mr. America was instantly arrested and was awaiting a court hearing. Later we learned that he had been fined 50,000Baht and deported and banned form ever entering Thailand again.
  4. Agree, in fact I've never met (in person or online) anybody who achieved Thai PR through any other route.
  5. Correct. I've taught many / various business courses at bachelor and masters level at many unis here in Thailand, in Singapore, in Vietnam (in a joint program with a famous business uni from Melbourne), and in China. Many times students have come to me as individuals or a a group asking me to review their business plans for a new venture and comment. 99% of the time I would study their business plan and say 'this will not be successful' and of course give a reason. The reasons quoted above (the location is poor, not enough market, too much competition, prices too high, too many locals & not enough tourists) all relevant and more. Many times it was obvious the students wanting to start the business were very disappointed with my comments so I sat them down with a whiteboard and write the start of a graphic portraying the steps in the value / revenue / costs chain, then asked each student to come to the white board and complete each detail in the chain. Again and again a 'roadblock' e.g. 'Why are we including electricity in the value / revenue / costs chain? We have to pay it anyway.' So my response would often be: 'Imagine that you start a laundry service with a big customer / dirty laundry base, and it needs to have professional washing machines. But you don't pay the electric bill and your electric supply is cut. Can you continue the business? Will you make any profit? Then of course 'but never mind I'll ask my dad to pay the electric bill'. Then lots of 'no no, that's not fair, why should your dad pay the electric bill, he's not getting any profit. By this stage most of the group are seeing that this is all wrong and they need to rethink many aspects of their business model or realize that it will never make a profit.
  6. Agree. And I suggest there's more to consider, the ultimate global brand owner would, without any doubt, have systems in place to ensure that 100% correct records are being continuously developed for various legal reasons as well as their own strong desire to know that they are getting the correct %. The franchise says that the ultimate brand owner gets x% of all sales - therefore the brand owner undoubtedly wants a paper / accounting trail which can be checked and provides proof they are receiving their correct %.
  7. I worked (university lecturer) up to when I turned 73. My students all gave me good surveys, but on the day of my 73rd b'day my Thai son said 'dad, enough full-time working, please stop and relax'. Son's wife backed him. At the end of every month after 73 birthday they raised the issue, "Please don't accept any further lecturing invitations." they also continuously mentioned. "Your 73, your health is good, please just relax". I did stop, but I took on more family cooking duties.
  8. From above: "...I applied successfully under the business category (starting with the 3-year work permit) and don't see why you would say that everybody would fail. To the contrary, this is the most popular way to do it, I'd say, as everybody I personally know who got PR used that option." I add, I got PR some 28 years ago. At that time the regulations stated that applicants needed to hold a WP for three consecutive years with same employer and prove that a personal tax report for each of the three years had been submitted, paid and finalized. On the day I submitted my PR application in less than an hour I was being interviewed by a very pleasant snr. officer who spoke perfect English. he mentioned "... the regulations say 3 years but in fact we don't process PR applications unless the applicant can prove at least 7 years of consecutive WPs." Fortunately I could comply, in fact that full detail was within the submitted application docs.
  9. So you 'fixed it'. Did you ever consider that the writer has human rights to express themselves as they see fit / feel comfortable with?
  10. Further, why so many posters say 'lefties' support sexual deviants? Two totally different subjects.
  11. Anybody can claim that. In my own case I went through the published process. I never offered any bribe or whatever and none was suggested / hinted by the PR immigration officers. And can you please share more re your comment about Ph.D. and KMU, and how that relates to PR. Thanks.
  12. Sorry but can you please clarify: 1. Are you saying that working with a work permit MORE than 3 years is a negative to gaining PR? 2. Can you please share how having a Ph.D. can be a route to gaining PR.
  13. I have no argument with your comment, except to say that the vast majority of comments here on AN are opinions not proven facts.
  14. From just above: "...Frankly i wouldn’t let more than half of the foreigners in Thailand anywhere near any permanent status.' I've had PR for approaching 28 years. Several times foreigners (most I had never met before) approached me / called me asking me to give them a recommendation letter, believing that a recommendation letter (just the letter) from current PR would give them instant PR. I never ever considered writing / giving such a letter because: - I had never met the person. - I support the criteris for several years of work permits which also means making a contribution to the development of Thailand. (I submitted my PR application and a wad of support documentation. 220 - 30 minutes later I was being interviewed by a senior Immigration general who soke perfect English. Early in the interview he mentioned he would need to talk to about 3 of my Thai staff and ask them what they were learning from me. He also indicated this was because contributing to the development of Thailand was a critical factor to gain approval and he wanted direct comments from my staff highlighting this item. Later he made the calls (all on speakerphone) and he spoke to about 3 of my staff, each one for 10 to 15 minutes. When these calls were finished he said he needed 10 minutes to complete his notes. He then said I'm impressed with the comments from your staff and your attitude to this item and I will use this as a major reason to recommend that you are approved for PR.
  15. Keep in mind that: - CP Thailand holds the 7/11 franchise for Thailand but it doesn't make all the rules. - The brand owner (company in Japan) makes the rules and regulations, the processes etc. It's very likely that they have to operate according to Japan commercial laws and regulations and that very probably means they must provide ever customer with some form of paperwork; items, total cost, change, etc. And that probably means the same details in within the regulations / processes the franchise holder must observe. Don't kid your self that CP is all powerful and can override he franchise regulations.
  16. What do you men by 'paperwork'? Do you know the steps / actions/ etc., involved in gaining a Ph.D.
  17. Meaning that you're not up to date with newer procedures / tests, just any opportunity for Thai bashing.
  18. So it's just an assumption on your part.
  19. And the organization since been charged with many cases of boys being touched / fondled / sex, by leaders.
  20. So simple, call the bank call centre. All the banks, especially Kasikorn have upgraded their call centre services and they all speak good English and they're good listeners. Call, they don't bite.
  21. Why don't you call the bank call centre and get a real / correct answer, they don't bite.
  22. Perhaps tell the Indian it's polite to wear some form of shoes in a respected hotel lobby.
