I had shingles about 8 years ago. Rash/blistering site around rib cage and on back in a band. It was painful but not obscenely so. I had no idea there was a vaccine at that time. My dance with the recurring chicken pox virus in this form was a bout lasting for a week or so. I was working in a remote community in WA and so treated at the base hospital ... maybe this was why no one mentioned a vaccine to me? I have asked my Oz doc about it, and the data on its reoccurrence of it once had. He did a bit of research and called me the other day advising me the side effects for the vaccine Shingrix are minimal, and the possibility of severe side effects are very rare per hundred thousand. We're in Australia at the mo so I get a shot in next week. I'll report back if I suddenly develop commie pinko ideas alla Covid misinformation/conspiracy nutjob rhetoric, grow another arm, or suddenly develop super powers.

For speed, instead of hand scraper use a wire-brush attachment and a small grinder. One very light, light touch will scour them off the walls. Don't paint over them without removing the bulk of the sucker/claw because as they rot (and they will) they will disintegrate and the paint you slap over them will more than likely be compromised. These suckers, feet, 'adapted stems' actually, are so powerful they, at magnified levels, dig right into stone, Gyprock, clay brick, cinder or Besa blocks. Ivy, Wisteria, and Ipomia or 'Morning Glory' vine will do this. The suckering and probing types like Ivy will break the walls apart via the chemical excretions from their many thousands of 'feet'. If you get rid of the small visible lumps and bumps left behind, then seal the walls then paint with quality exterior paint it will last you for years. If anyone wants to grow vines around the house make sure you chose NON- aggressive non-invasive species that don't sucker or use probing tendrils e.g. Chinese Jasmine (white star-like fragrant flower) is a good example. This Jasmine is a relatively tame climber, a beautiful plant for LOS. Chinese Jasmine allows for shaping, pruning, and during the major growing period before good coverage is achieved is easily redirecting the growth tips to cover a frame or up posts or even to shape into whatever your fancy takes. Of course even Jasmine will spread if left and not managed. Always best to erect a stand alone frame away from the building and cover with a galvanised 'dog' wire and grow on this. A space of 200mm between wall and the back of the frame is usually sufficient for safe growing.

What a sick nation, and I thought my home country of Oz has its problems haha ???? To see in the stark light of day that this nation has over 70 million people who are actively or if they are are so bigoted, so perverted themselves that they chose to excuse or embrace the perversity of Trump because it matches their own is both sad, shameful, repulsive and given the USA's propensity to throw it military might about readily, frightening. There seems no champions no moral backbones in the GOP. On the contrary the GOP has completely, utterly, and without nuance abandoned any sense of humanity and decency and become a gaggle of repulsive Gollum-like creatures. A truly stark, jarring reality in this emptiness is, in any way, to stand with the courage of the Founding Fathers, men like Washington Lincoln et al. for the clear and present immediacy, nay the death-rattle imperative in the struggle to preserve all that is good in the Constitution. It occurred to me as and when I began to grow more understanding of the USA's political processes that the USA is NOT a democracy at all, whether you chose to specify its a 'Democratic Republic' (just a useless word salad and ignorant understanding of nomenclature) or not makes no difference to the reality of the system in place and certainly does not excuse, rationalise, or justify such a false equivalency of the USA being a free, fairly chosen, open-electorally directed nation. This notion of it being so, is perhaps one of the biggest lies ever told to a people by its government and power brokers. Woven into the Constitution no less and done in order to subvert the will of the People and to entrench, validate, and promulgate a Power or Royal class. To vote and to have those votes not counted equally as a total for each candidate and to have this tally be the true vote - this is NOT a democratic process at all. In its shocking, lamentable, shameful, and undemocratic reality to create a scheme that values some votes more than others and use this as the means to declare a winner. So sayeth The Electoral College System. This undemocratic abomination could not be farther from the meaning, spirit, and ethos of Democracy.

RIP poor young woman ???????? I have zero statistics to back my comment up, but, maybe the frequency of falangs falling of balconies is because, per capita Thais just drink less? Yes, yes I know theres lots of Thais that hit it hard often as well. I say this cause I know heaps of Thais that don't drink much, or not at all and by comparison to falangs the percentage is far far lower of imbibers than falangs. It seems too that these fallers are in places where high tourism abides and with that all sorts of relaxing of self-controls used at home, 'letting the hair down' if you will. As for the Russian angle there are lots of cultures I avoid when heavily drinking or drunk people are around; one is Russians, but there are many others I simply walk away from pronto ... and yes this also includes Thai's (men mainly). If the fella pushed her, and it is found did so deliberately then he should swing for it.

How much does a Retirement Home cost in Thailand?
Tropposurfer replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
At 67.5 I pay $7K a year for 5 star cover and I love it ????. It won't increase more than a few thousand over the next 10 to 20 years given the mean average of increases in insurance over the years. I consider, as time goes by and I/we age that at say 80, paying 9K AUD or maybe a bit more no problem and I am glad to pay my premium each year for what it gives me e.g free glasses, free dental, chiropractic, osteopath, surgery, all medicines, skin cancer treatments etc WITH BNH Bumungrad type quality care, without any refusals, no matter how many I have of these. I'm a happy chappy. I get the very best of care I have ever had in my entire life, and apart from the USA it covers me across the globe so no travel insurance is ever needed ... no added expense. My premiums are not indexed to age, and, last until death. Any increase in premiums are indexed to industry increases due to such things as cost of service provision etc. This is, often, with the biggest and safest underwriters, standard accepted practice and 'normal'. Consider the aging process and the increasing need for mobility support as just one indice of effective care, add to that the lower cost of Thai aged-care compared to western costs and it makes good sense. I believe Malaysia has some beautiful private aged-care facilities too. I will check some out next golf trip south. I come from a home-country 'free' healthcare system (some have commented about this). To compare such a free-system of aged care with a privately selected aged care facility is vastly different to the bare-bones healthcare for aged people in my country. And I mean bare-bones! I daresay in LOS for falangs who pay for 'private' facility care this would be nicer than mid level, certainly to lower level Oz care by comparison. Why? Simply because the Thai people have a capacity for gentleness, and loving that makes the hardened and cynical care workers in Oz pale by comparison and their running costs are far far lower. I will do some research after reading this article and visit some private facilities here in our travels and maybe report back to my fellows. As a comparative aside It is sad to say but the public health aged-care system in Australia is and has been in serious trouble for some decades due to inactivity and indifference from successive Federal governments. Even the private systems (and their is a turgid industry in Oz providing such care) the 'care provision' situation is strained. Post Covid it seems to have got into even more dire straights e.g. alarming concerns re staffing levels. Lots of reports of people being neglected due to this and providers just not funding the facilities with enough cash as one cause. Attend an Emergency Department at any city hospital in Australia except for a few remote location base hospitals with say a broken arm and you might wait 6 or 8 hours to be seen (I reflect a friends experience of a few months back). Let alone doing so as an elderly person is frankly hell on wheels! I daresay, and it aint' rocket science to see that the more one pays the better the care one gets. -
Special counsel to investigate President Biden's son Hunter
Tropposurfer replied to Social Media's topic in World News
If the bloke broke laws let him pay. Pure and simple. If this is inflated by the right, as it has reported by the middle and left leaning press and the Democrats as being done, and for a long time i.e. that his crimes are used as an attempt to distraction from what Trump has been accused of doing (projection). The evidence touted in the J6 and other election issues, if true, is treason. If the Biden family as conspired to commit crimes then they too are in need of conviction and serious penalty. To conflate that somehow the Biden family are worse-than, akin-to the Trump family and what appears as massive frauds and criminal wrong doings by the Trumps and imminently to be tabled openly in court with evidences to prove said criminal activity then we may be seeing a panicked right, a panicked Trump and his family, in league with the GOP. which has seemingly given away integrity to both sedition and treason making an argument based on a junkies madness as being connected to his father and wider family as a means to distract, to tar, through disinformation and misinformation in order to somehow derail the prosecutions of Trump, to sway the electorate and win power, and all through their sedition and sycophancy disguised and 'True Patriotism'. We know for certain that the Trump orbit confesses regularly through their obvious projections onto the Biden's and anyone who opposes their treason. Poor sick Biden Jnr has been an atypical train wreck as a long time struggling to get clean junkie on the madness-making meth, and no wonder. Trading on his family name like a wild animal trying to survive is not so far apart from what we see in open US politics ala Cruz, Hawley, Greene, and yes even Democrats. So to bash him (apart from making him answer to the law if he has broken laws) is hypocrisy writ large. If his dad was complicit in any way then he too needs to be prosecuted. Let the evidence be shown in open court and let us see what is true and factual. -
‘Main customers’: Russians fleeing Putin’s war find a home in Phuket

We see lots of Ruskies in our drives here and there but thankfully we don't have them living, and drinking themselves to stupidity with vodka (a national pastime it seems) in our estate. There are lots buying (so one of the higher end agents in Bang Tao tell us) but not at our end of the market. -
If there is any opportunity for US Law to resurrect itself from the trash heap it now occupies then this moment in time is that opportunity. In other democratic nations National Principles such as Presidents, Prime Ministers etc have been jailed and shamed publicly in open court for their crimes of treachery, greed, lawlessness, and the impacts of the corrosive behaviours. But, in the USA the precedent of allowing the most responsible in the nation to walk free despite the highest of crimes was set with Nixon by that idiot Ford.

Trump has already disqualified himself from White House return
Tropposurfer replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Mueller said in front of open Congress; 'Trump was indeed open to prosecution in the Russia collusion investigation but this could not be done while he was President (law)'. The GOP voted NO to impeaching him and so the evidence to indeed prosecute was laid impotent. As to Trumps (or any other President) holding immunity as a President this is an obscene, shameful stain on the USA calling itself a democracy and a nation under Law.- 132 replies

Trump has already disqualified himself from White House return

I watched a Frontline USA UTube video yesterday. A long interview with an investigative reporter who has followed both the 2016 and 2020 elections and what he had to say was what I already have heard but said in ways so clear, so shockingly clear that your assumptive questioning is indeed spot-on. Trump intended to call out the national guard and other military elements, declare martial law, stop the electoral college vote, suspend the constitution and remain in power and then once this had been accomplished to destroy all branches of the government and rule unopposed. He has, and is still, saying this out, clearly unambiguously, and loudly.- 132 replies

No they were, as a whole not. Sadly despite 600 odd thousand Americans dying at each others hand in that conflict the scourge of white-supremacy and rabid entrenched racism was never defeated. It is alive and well in the USA.- 132 replies

Hawaii wildfires: Six deaths confirmed as blazes engulf Maui
Tropposurfer replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Heavy heavy heavy! RIP to the poor souls that got cooked ???? Welcome to the reality of the planet warming. Fires create their own weather once they get big enough, drawing in all the oxygen from around thus exponentially increasing the wind vortex that makes the fires burn even hotter and moving even faster looking for fuel to continue to burn. Trees exploding, metal melting, tyres exploding, roads melting, people being cooked like a roast in an oven. As an Aussie wild fires like this are part of the DNA. The power and force of a wild fire is so overwhelmingly terrifying, fast moving, and unstoppable. We had shockers in 2019 with Sydney covered in the ash, red yellow light, the sun blocked by smoke from fires to the west dangerous to breathe and temps in the late 30's to 40's every day for days and days. -

Healthcare costs Australia Vs Thailand
Tropposurfer replied to Celsius's topic in Health and Medicine
Australia has a very high cost (one of the worlds most expensive - ex the insane American costs for procedures) for and elected, private care). As a foreigner you will pay cash on the nose for any surgery. I checked out bi-lateral hip replacements before retiring in LOS. At home the cost for excellent best surgeon was $50K AUD m(St Vincents Private Orthopaedic Hospital, Sydney). Could get the same for $37 K in Bumungrad in far better conditions. Don't let anyone tell you medical costs are cheaper in Oz that LOS because that is a fallacy. Yes, if you go to Bumungrad Hospital as one of the most expensive and top flight LOS hospital you will pay somewhere near comparable costs but this is for care that dwarfs Australian care quality by far! BNH, Samitvej, Chula Hospitals as examples are much more reasonable and offer superb care and cheaper costs to Australia. If you are an Australian citizen you are covered my our national health scheme called Medicare ... but this system is under severe strain and inadequate for almost its entire scope of operations this means wait lists for elective/non-emergency surgeries are horribly blown out in nearly all the States. -
