  2. Just in case anyone can't make this event, Boxer Rebellion are hosting a viewing on Tuesday at the new 'Irish' bar on soi 11. Looks about as Irish as Tom Yam Gung to me, but there ya go. Forgot the name, it's quite far down on the right as you walk down 11. Doesn't look Irish at all (from the outside, I haven't been in), and the name begins with a T...

...anyway, I will still be coming to the Monday show...maybe both if the fellas on Tuesday wanna make some action, heh heh heh

  3. U should check out the racquet club gym on sukhumvit soi 49. ok, its not so near Ari, but it claims to be the biggest and best (semi-) indoor rock climbing in Thailand (of course it does!). i use the gym daily, but have never used the wall, so cant tell u much more about it. oh, and its also the only one i have ever heard of in bkk.

  4. looking for some rattan practice sticks as used in Indonesian and Filipino martial arts, anyone ever seen these?

I've long been on the look out for martial arts gear in BKK, and judging by some of the older posts on here, so have a lot of other people...

The FBT store on Ramkhamhaeng seems good for gloves, pads, etc, but don't remember ever seeing any sticks there.

Likewise with the stall at the top of MBK somewhere.

I havent been to any of the stores that I hear are around national stadium and lumpinee.

Failing a decent MA supplier, I figure some kind of timber yard/merchant could make some up no problems, but never seen one of these here either...any ideas on that?

  5. thanks 10D, can you tell me a little bit more

I really am an open minded journey man and I love the comardie of reality based and "workers" gyms

whats the background of the teacher(s) there?

seems like you have a nice bunch of guys at your place, the website is cool

I think the best bet would be to come and see for yourself!

By the sounds of it, u might like the saturday afternoon sessions (2.30-4.00) which is based on weapons training and defense (other days cover these too, but sat. is more in depth). I am just a student there, and haven't been going for so long, so if u r already trained up, best u talk to some of the instructors.

Aside from what is written on the website under the instructor profiles, I can only tell u that the Krav teacher teaches much more than 'traditional' Krav (Kapap, and some other Israeli systems I can't remember the names of!) under the umbrella term 'combatives'.

From what I have seen, the guys are all cool and seem up for meeting like-minded ppl.

    P.S.

If u find the thread in the general forum about the farang that disarmed and immobilized a Thai guy that was waving a gun around in Bangkok a few weeks ago, you might find some interesting reading!

  6. Yep, there's a class several times a week at Boxer Rebellion, soi 13, Sukhumvit.

You should come and check it out when you are here...although the teacher is fricking awesome, there are relatively few members in this class (does vary).

This is fine with me, as I get the odd private class every now and then!

    :)

In your list, I have only heard of C, but I'm just a beginner practitioner, the guys at the gym probably know the rest...they have a website

  7. Yes!

They don't check much more than your blood pressure, you give them 80 baht or so, then it's done. 5 minute job!

OOPS, misread your post sorry, as far as I know ANY clinic will provide this service, but I don't know any specific ones in that street.

  8. First of all, sorry, I know I have seen topics on this before, but couldn't find the threads on searching.

If anyone else happens across them, then a link would be well appreciated. (As always in a hurry today)

My Thai GF wants to improve her English at a language school, pref. between Asoke-On Nut.

She also wants to learn some Japanese.

The one school she has found is Stamford Education Centre in Ekkamai, who do not appear to have a website, and want a lot of money up front, with no trial course or anything.

Anybody know if this place is actually any good?

Any recommendations would be most welcome.

I could teach her myself of course, but we decided that's probably not the best option!

<P.S. Mods, if this is in the wrong forum, sorry, please move>

    TIA

  9. I got an SMS from a friend fairly early last night who said that a van had somehow managed to crash up on the pavement outside Thermae cafe last night on Sukhumvit.

He said there were bodies (was unsure if they were wounded or worse) and food stalls and glass scattered around, but he wasn't really sure how much damage had been done.

Sounded very nasty, but haven't heard from him since about the extent of the carnage.

Fingers crossed that nobody was too seriously hurt, does anybody know more about this?

  10. Hi

I does any one know where in Thailand I can find a bit of martial arts kit called a

    BOB Dummy Body Opponent Bag?

its like a free standing punch pag, but with a mans figure, so you can practice targeted shots...

also very good for training self defence stuff.

    See here

    http://www.amazon.com/Body-Opponent-Bag-Ba...=sporting-goods

Now amazon will not ship this to thailand.

I seem to only find muay thai or tae kwon do supplies.... but anything outside of this, I am having trouble sourcing.

Anyone seen these available in Thailand?

    Thanks

    G

I am fairly (but not 100%) sure i saw one in the big FBT shop on Ramkhamhaeng Road opposite the stadium.

    Def. worth a try

  11. Here is the link for the final of the masters jiu jitsu - it hasn't finished processing at this precise minute, so might have to give it an hour or so (not sure, 1st upload)

will do the 3 MMA events tomorrow...it's taking ages

    the first video looks great.

I fought in the 3rd MMA match (Xavier) and i'm def looking forward to seeing the video of it, so thanks in advance for putting it up!

and by the way, my opponent's name was Ngoo Ditty from Tiger Muay Thai and not Min Yoo from Shangai BJJ (Min got injured 2 weeks ago and had to pull out.. but they didn't update the blog)

    cheers!

Thanks for the info, was an entertaining fight, nice one!

The video is about 50% uploaded, it's taking a while cos its 380MB.

Should be up 2 hours from now, and i'll post the link..

The first MMA fight on the card is here

Will stick up the 2nd fight later today or tomorrow after Xavier's has finished uploading.
