More COVID cases in Surat Thani?
Swimfan replied to phetphet's topic in Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao
That is 230 cases in a week now for Samui. A fairly significant number given the size of the population. Where I live we only have 200 cases a day in a population of 8 million with 93% of adult population fully vaccinated only the unvaccinated are restricted in their activities. -
More COVID cases in Surat Thani?
Swimfan replied to phetphet's topic in Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao
I believe it’s less to do with heat but more to do with humidity level. The virus suspends itself in the air by attaching to water vapor droplets. The higher the humidity the larger the water droplets and the wicker they fall. There has been a lot of research done in this area. I work in a private hospital and when we had Covid patients several months ago we put humidifiers in the rooms and common areas were the Covid patients were to reduce the chances of airborne transmission. The northern winters can produce very cold dry air in which the virus can remain suspended for up to I believe 20 times longer than a relatively humid environment. The tendency to congregate more indoors in confined environments in winter probably contributes to spread also. -

Shipping a bike from Thailand to EU ?
Swimfan replied to Pepper9187's topic in Motorcycles in Thailand
Considering the cost of freight worldwide has exploded up to ten fold in the past 12 months you might be looking at a pretty penny to ship now. -
In Australia if you have enough savings to give you an income of 25k a year its unlikely you would receive the full pension. Once your income exceeds about $150 a week you pension starts getting reduced at 25k per annum income you would likely receive less than 50% of the pension

I use a 4.4kw portable air conditioner in my unit in Sydney. It easily keeps the 50sqm living area cool on the hottest of days and has no problem getting down to 20degC. Obviously is ducted outside through a window kit.

Chinese tourists to return to Thailand - but not until late 2022
Swimfan replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
With their insistence on maintaining a zero Covid policy and a 21 day quarantine for return travelers. It will be well after 2022 before there is any significant Chinese tourism inbound or outbound. My bet is on 2025 before they relax any restrictions. They are well aware that their vaccines are not on par with what is available in the west, leaving them in a vulnerable position if they open their borders. -
I doubt there are many regulations and if there is, likely little enforcement. I have seen enough food handling and storage practices in Thailand that would probably give a western food safety inspector a heart attack. Have personally had several bouts of food poisoning in Thailand.

What Chaweng's beach road looks like now...
Swimfan replied to khunPer's topic in Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao
And all the lovely electrical distribution boxes blocking the footpaths. I never used to mind the overhead wires. Still sadly looks like a ghost town albeit a slightly cleaner one. I hope they don’t get their hopes too high that masses are just going to return overnight. I would not be surprised if 70% of the businesses are closed permanently due to no capital left to resume operations. it’s likely to be a long road to full recovery. Hoping I can return in March. -
