Major problem for me if I wanted to go back on a Repatriation Flight, I live in the N.E. and have googled many times for Clinics in the area but all appear to be in the London area. My G.P. doesn’t do Fit to Fly Certs and obviously Covid Tests, NHS ones are not in writing.
I would need the Fit to Fly for my Partner and our son, I have looked into it intensely but have made the decision to ride it out until such time restrictions ease and flights resume from the Newcastle. I have applied to extend my partners Visa and our son is now attending school here. I think the Thai Embassy assume everything ody lives in the vicinity of London and can just arrange everything around there.

Fit to Fly seems to be addressed in the post above yours and some NHS tests have the result emailed - you could try it out to see what your area does if you hadn't decided to stay on.

You can pretend, and continually repeat, all day that because somebody says they can't and believes they can't makes it true. Nope. The hard evidence lies in facts such as above. Why all desperate need to stay in denial?

Your handful of examples don't make it universal.  Far more are on the opposite side and you're just stirring a thread up again for reasons known only to you.

If I don't need a mask when eating or drinking, why do I need one at all?

You're not eating or drinking all the time so this reduces (not eliminates) the chance of you spreading the disease.  Lots of small reductions pave the way to making it manageable.

At least that's the theory. Whether it's needed or anything is another debate, but the logic in the scenario you describe is valid.

I was never really looking for that, I like to travel but surely a single father taking care of a thai child with a monthly income coming from abroad into a thai bank account should be e bloody nough to be giving some sort of permanent visa until the kid is 18 or 21.

I tend to agree, but I've got a Western viewpoint.  When I'm away from home I know I have to stick by the local rules.  We Westerners might like to think we're always right but there's nothing to say our way of thinking is more appropriate than anyone else's.

WOW..people are still wheeling out that nonsense..dear me.

There are very few destinations on the planet you can't get to from BKK nowadays.  And book with confidence the flight will actually depart.

Sounds like Australia has some restrictions due to their Government limiting arrivals, but I can't think of any other place that is discussed frequently.  What passport do you hold that makes it so difficult to get there?

Perhaps even stranger, Emirates are flying to/from Bangkok from 1st September, one flight a day. I can only assume they are being used as repatriation flights because, as we all know, almost no-one is allowed entry.

Not repatriation flights as arranged by the embassies, but BKK is a transit point on this flight to Hong Kong.  If Emirates are happy for someone to disembark there then it's another opportunity opening for those wanting to return.  Emirates do point out in the booking process that passengers booking to BKK need to comply with all the Thai entry requirements.

I wonder did any of the Emirates flights disembark yesterday and today in BKK

Not very scientific, but if I look at the seating for tomorrow's flight I can see at least a couple of seats booked on the DXB-BKK leg that are empty on the BKK-HKG leg.  That would indicate to me the passengers got off at BKK as it's unlikely anyone would select to move at the change point.

Where do you get that from?

If you get it from their website (choose a seat), that's not a reflection of the occupancy but of who checked in online already.

I get it from a seat alerts app, but in any case Emirates allocate all passengers seats around 48 to 72 hours prior to departure (or at least they did pre-covid) so this close in the seat map will give a fair indication.

  9. This flight has been flying for the past few weeks, stopping at BKK enroute to HKG.  I suspect they have been carrying only HKG bound passengers on the outbound until now and they now have the systems in place to carry those bound for BKK.

KLM are doing it too with aircraft transit stopping at BKK and discharging passengers who have shown the required paperwork at check in to prove they can enter Thailand.

Seat map for tomorrow's flight doesn't look very busy in economy.
