Flight has to originate in EU to be eligible for EU compensation rules

Only if you're flying with a non-EU airline.  EU airlines must pay (if eligible) on all flights to or from the EU.

Would it make sense for me to fly with a European airline in case the flight is changed which could be a big possibility, The likes of Emirates is not bound by European rules to compensate me if say a flight is cancelled and moved to the following day or even longer?

You would be covered in both directions if you chose a European airline but only the return flight from the UK if you chose Emirates etc. so that's a distinct advantage.  If any delay/cancellation was attributable to Covid however, no compensation is payable from any airline.

This ban has been in place for ages, ~ 3 years, no clue why it would be an issue now?

Qatar has some options, long layover at DOH via QR 837 to QR 15 to LHR is 15,035 all in next week.

The nations and hence their airlines just don't co-operate.  I had first hand experience of it towards the end of last year when I was refused a change from one to the other following a cancellation.  It's political to the top level is how I understand it.

I have suggested Qatar to him as he could get to EDI with them (with a short connection) but it seems he's now booked for early September with Emirates so fingers crossed for that one.

What he didn't realise until just now is the UAE have seemingly just introduced a requirement for a Covid test for all passengers before they board a flight which could be interesting.

Agreed. Most who spend most of their time around Soi Buakhao and Walking St. ????

Oh. And you know this how? Most of our ace TVF Marketers advise that the name Pattaya has a bad reputation, appealing only to low farang mongers, yet these hotels are the last places a monger would wish to stay. So that shrewd observation may have a problem. ????

It could be that they use Pattaya because it IS their actual location, as hotels normally do wordwide. Now if you made them aware that they are not located within your quite limited "mental" boundaries, perhaps they'd change over to help you find them.

It's amazing, however, to learn that Pattaya School #7 and Pattaya School #11 are marketed towards tourists. This sign also needs correction, if it hasn't been yet. "Chonburi" won't do either: you know what it needs to be.

Schools, Immigration offices and such like, as official bodies, are of course going to use the municipal authority titles, but they're not what we're talking about here.  Come out of your distorted bubble and think about the real world around you.

Go to almost any country and ask locals there if they know of Pattaya, Jomtien or Naklua.  Most will probably know none of the three, some will know Pattaya and next to no-one will know Jomtien or Naklua.  There's a great reason for hoteliers and such like to advertise themselves as Pattaya despite their actual location.

Or go to any local residents of the three places and ask them where they stay - get the idea?  No one is  disputing whether it's legal or correct or even fair, it just happens to be so.

Not everyone is one of your "ace TVF Marketers" and are well aware of the standard of hotels in the area, so you would do yourself a favour if you took off the bigoted blinkers and enjoyed everything all three places have to offer. ????

The mate should ring the EK CTO to sort this out. See if they'll endorse the ticket on QR, at least get to LHR. Or try to fly Mon or Tue this week?

It does look like there is an EK flight for DXB-BKK, which flies on to AKL, and returns via BNA to DXB.

But BKK-DXB does look scrubbed for August - but it does look like EK 385 is flying tomorrow and Tuesaday, on BKK-DXB.

Worth a try but with the airspace ban on Qatar from the other Gulf countries just now that's not likely.

The AKL one is in the system to run 3x weekly until the end of August, and 2 BKK flights (one going on to PNH) to resume from 1st September, hopefully.

I can only see EK371 tomorrow which might do, even if it doesn't connect well with the GLA one.  I'll see if he's got anywhere yet and make sure he knows about it.

Read the small print;  insurance is if you are diagnose with Covid on an Emirates flight.   Not if you had the disease before you fly or develop it after the flight.

Plenty of ways Emirates can avoid paying if they want to.

I agree with the last line, as it's an insurance company (Nextcare Claims Management/Allianz) dealing with it and they're notorious for trying to avoid payouts.  However, my reading of the package is that you are covered from flying plus another 31 days, so not just if diagnosed on a flight.

What does "removed" mean in your lexicon?

    No longer on sale.

A mate was due to fly next week to the UK (GLA) with them and his PNR disappeared off their system a few days ago.  I suspected this was due to the imminent cancellation of EK377 (IIRC) from BKK to DXB, as EK27 to GLA has been OK since it resumed.  I think what has now happened is Emirates realised they'd got to the point where they had to bite the bullet and cancel as it became apparent regular flights still weren't going to be allowed in.

Though you may consider only Soi Buakhao and Walking Street as Pattaya, in fact both Naklua and Jomtien are also in Pattaya.

The three places all have their own identities and I think most people will go along with what I said.  I know that Pattaya City Municipality covers much more but if I was going to Naklua (or Jomtien) I would say that.  There is a reason they use Pattaya rather than their actual location as it attracts the tourist money.

Combine that with the fact that Pattaya stretches down to Bang Saray 15 miles away, and even gets its name on an airport in another province, I think my interpretation is much more reasonable than the hoteliers and anyone else who claims otherwise.

ETA:  My definition is not restricted to Buakhao and Walking Street as you surmised, but at least you got your bitchiness out there in the open.

it seems unfair that film crews , migrant workers etc. are allowed in but no one seems to speak about our group

Why didn't you come back in March when you could see what was happening?

Why in the world would you opt to have to fat finger in your monthly payments online?

It takes up to two months (billing periods) to set up the direct debit and I move every two or three months.

Paying through the PEA App. does not require you to enter the payment amount, only scan a QR code.

EK 448 shows as operating today DXB-BKK/BKK-AKL, although it hasn't departed DXB yet.

I don't think this can be booked ex BKK, and the return goes through Brisbane instead.  EK373 weekly to Dubai has been the only Emirates one recently, but I can see more being added this week.

The only direct flight I can find from BKK is to Paris which is not my preference (want to be more south).

Lufthansa, Swiss and KLM all have regular flights too, although perhaps not daily.

My understanding is that if you have a transit where you can mix with people from all over then quaarantine will be required, but I'm not sure how this is practised.
