  1. Thais are violent, both consciously and unconsciously. It is their inbred nature to be violent. This violence takes on many forms. Look up these forms on the Internet. You cannot stop those forms of violence, nor can you effect any positive change by focusing on men and men alone. This is her culture. Her culture is violent through and through. It bleeds violence. It breathes violence. The sticky ooze comes out of the cracks and seeps corruption, dishonesty, cheating, lying, promiscuity, and all the sordid behaviors that an undeveloped, selfish mind can conceive. Violence is their release from pent up emotions that have no self-will or self-discipline to exercise control over the urge to be violent.

Hence I am certain she is being untruthful and merely telling lies to satisfy some other agenda that has nothing to do with the nature of her people.

When TVF hands out its annual award for the most hyperbole-laden and bigoted post of the year, this will be a lay down misère. thumbsup.gif

  2. It is good to see that Thailand protects children and adhere's to the treaty on the rights of the child. Especially regarding youngsters the aim of the law is not to punish, but to correct wrong behaviour.

Let's not forget this isn't murder, as some seem to want to make out of it. It was a very, very tragic accident. And don't forget that driving by minors is not exactly rare in Thailand and it are often the adults who fail to act against it.

Wow - someone with a brain posted on TV. Thanks Mario wise words and cooler heads prefail.

    Hardly.

Recently a 16 year old family member was sentenced to 4 years for stealing (as part of a gang) 6 bags of rice.

The tragedy of this accident seemed to be very far from her mind when she was pictured lounging against the freeway wall, casually texting whomever.

But, no surprise. Even if she was 18+, one can imagine the sentence would have been very similar - given her (via her parents) position in society.

  3. Only the obtuse didn't ponder the reason why a B rated actress was invited to attend Harry's father's first wedding held in St. Pauls

To the contrary - I would suggest that it is only the obtuse who would spend time digging up past and alleged indiscretions of the Windsors, and putting them together in a bitchy post on TVF.

The intelligent wouldn't waste their time pondering anything about this family. coffee1.gif

  4. With so much BS and conflicting statements going around, is it possible it was a terrorist attack, and this is a big cover up to protect Phuket's tourism industry????

Just throwing that thought out there because, for me, something doesn't sound right about this whole incident, especially with reports of an "explosion" just prior to the fire.

I'm sure I will be heavily critisised for this post, but TIT, and one must consider all possibilities.

I think pitied, rather that criticized.

  5. It might even lead to you being kept in detension. When you are caught on overstay you must pay the fine AND must have a ticket out of the country. Immigration can hold you till you not only have paid the fine, but also have bought a ticket out of the country to a country that can not deny you entry.

    Not necessarily.

A guy has just been caught locally (Udon) for a 2 year overstay.

He was taken to court, and the overstay "fine" was reduced by the judge from 20k to 10k.

The following day, Immigration allowed him to do a border crossing at Nong Khai into Laos, and return with a 14 day entry stamp. He now has to get his visa situation sorted out.

Thai men plead guilty over Perth woman's stabbing

    Updated August 07, 2012 05:17:27

Two Thai men accused of murdering Australian travel agent Michelle Smith in June have pleaded guilty to all charges in a Bangkok court.

  7. I wonder how often they will hand out a 1 year visa 1st time? Perhaps it was the sponsor letter or maybe what she had said. Dis you guys ask for a 1 year visa?

No, did not request anything, only gave the dates we wish to visit Oz, 3 October to 23 October.

I was quite surprised they granted one year.

Wife and I have been to the UK several times, also travelled around Asia a few times. Maybe they can see that it is a genuine request for a tourism visit, which it is.

There was no interview when visiting the VFS in BKK, just handed over the documents, all over in five minutes.

If someone has a history of compliance with visas for other countries, this will generally make it much easier for them to get a tourist (visitor) visa for Oz.

My wife (then girlfriend) had 3 visas for China (where I was working) prior to applying for an Australian tourist visa. She was given a 12 month multi-entry first up, and all subsequent visas have been the same.

  8. If he is directed by the police to do so, yes he can. When I looked up Thai citizen arrest laws it turns out they are the same as in the states.

Even if he wasn't under the direct supervision of a sworn policeman, if he witnesses a crime (such as someone fleeing from a police checkpoint when commanded to stop, which was a legal command as the girl did not have a helmet) he can use reasonable force to effect an arrest, same as any person in Thailand.

Perhaps you could point us all in the right direction, and provide a link to the Thai citizen arrest laws you refer to above.

And at the same time, the Thai law relating to what constitutes reasonable force when effecting such an arrest.

  9. I think we should all agree she was ripped off.

It does not appear she has been ripped off, you will eventually find out when you see the itinerary.

    So which one is correct?

The fare calculation is correct, my first comment was made before I did the on-line booking.

I guess it's good we (ie all of us) didn't jump right in and agree with you then. coffee1.gif

  10. I disagree jackspratt,

all my GF visas have been valid for three months from the date of issue, meaning that she must enter Australia before that three months is up. She can then stay for as long as the visa is for, eg, 3, 6 or 12 months from when she enters Austra;ia

    T

Then she must have received a different visa than my wife has on numerous occasions.

I am quoting from her most recent Visitor Class 676 visa, which is multi-entry, 3 months stay and 12 months validity:

    " Granted 28 Feb12. Must not arrive after 28 Feb13. Multiple Travel."

"Holder(s) permitted to remain in Australia for 03 months from date of each arrival".

Nothing about arriving within 3 months of issue.

  11. Sherlock-Watson, Marples, Colombo, name them we have them here. I didn't realise we had a competition on the longest posts. This happenned on the Chiang Mai SAGA. One or two know it alls again hogging the limelight, trying to make themselves look superior, instead of short helpful replies. Some tend to end up their own Ar#ehole in hammering out their long and stupid bumf.

Patience is needed until a verdict is given, then a full exchange of views. Good debates on the subject are healthy WITHOUT an epic/saga post.

If I remember having some of the same posters on the toll-way incident. Give us old expats a look in. Take a breather some of you.

Yep - who would of thunk.

Thailand, the world epicentre of incompetence and corruption, has managed to attract so many western short and long- term authorities on all subjects, ranging from (amongst others) criminal investigations, to forensic science, to relationships, to matters military, to civil construction, airport corruption, and even international law.

And all given the perfect outlet for their expertise on the "Asia's largest expat forum".
