  1. Thanks to all for replies so far, and Felix that does sound like a close one. I wish I would have told my Fiancé to call them all sorts of names, that would have been very gratifying. A few times Inspector Danny asked me if I was threatening him, as I was informing them I'd make sure all of his superiors and the web would know about this instance. I told him you can call it whatever you like, I'm informing you what I'm going to do. They really are a bunch of goons there with a lack of education. I faxed this post to all their departments listed here: http://www.customs.gov.sg/mis/con/ and emailed their "Service manager".

    Quality Service Manager

    Tel: 1800 253 3866

    Email: [email protected]

And now I'm content to make this post and send the faxes every year on my birthday. Everyone feel free to contact Singapore service manager here [email protected] :)

I question whether Singapore Customs is likely to pass on complaining emails meant for the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority.

  2. There is undercover parking associated with the car wash, which is in the furthermost car park as you enter the airport (ie outside the old terminal).

I have no idea how secure it is, as like LB, I just park outside the main terminal. Have done it 3 or 4 times now, up to 14 days at a time, without a problem.

  3. I think the OP's questions may be better answered after he describes the purpose for which his vehicle is being imported under ATA Carnet.

What exactly does he mean by "exhibition". From my dim, distant memory of working with HMC in Oz, exhibition was defined to mean static exhibition ie you bring it in, put it on a stand for the public at large to view, and then you re-export. You could not drive it around, or perform at "drifting" shows.

  4. It is sad that their is no air service for Udon, KK, Ubon, Burrim, Roi Et to name a few but if there was the number of customers as claimed on these routs an air line would be flying. Unfortunately there is not enough of a customer base to make these routes profitable.

Thai has 3 flights per day Bangkok/Udon/Bangkok.

    Nok has 2.

    Air Asia has 2.

  5. I am trying to get a USB Wireless Edge Modem (v1.0.8, purchased in Thailand) going for a friend. He doesn't have other internet access, living in the sticks.

The computer is brand new, with W7 x64 Ultimate - which I suspect may be the problem.

After plugging the dongle into the USB, some software seemed to have loaded, but an error message appeared "Reference Design Dragonfly Platform - no driver found".

I have googled extensively, to no avail - other than perhaps the OS being the problem.

    Any suggestions/help appreciated.

  6. >>Tiger, with all the add-ons (15kg baggage/exit row seat/convenience fee) but no meals or convenience packs etc - all up fare TBH27,050.

    Singapore Airlines - TBH21,865.

FMD!!!!! SQ half owns Tiger, and can undercut them by 20% while still offering full service on one of the world's best airlines.

SQ is running promotions ( see the banner at the top of TV) from BKK now for the winter season there, but IIRC the tickets are usually mid 30's to get to OZ on SQ.

This is not one of the promotional fares as you pointed to (for Perth, at least) eg miles are applicable. Also, I can't ever remember a BKK/PER/BKK fare above 30k, and in fact last year (August, for Sept flights) paid just 16K.

  7. This is entirely separate from paying to pick your seat - which you can also do on Tiger.

It merely allows you to get onto the plane before the other passengers - as seats are all allocated at check-in (or prior to, if you have paid when booking).

Just out of interest, I did a dummy booking on Tiger - BKK/PER/BKK for late this month, returning early August.

  8. While you're right in that most individuals don't care whether the airport they're landing in is top-10 or not, there is a good reason for this.

When you're regarded as one of the top airports, you get a lot of coverage in travel magazines and TV shows which are always doing specials on the World's Best This-or-That.

Suvarnabhumi as it stands now, is never going to feature in any of those unless they do a special show about the World's Best Duty Free Cash Cows.

The insanely long queues, at the end of which you face a surly old fart who doesn't know how to operate his computer and can't speak a word of English (and can't actually speak in any language but can only shout and bark orders), makes a really poor welcome to the country.

After walking through an airport which just reeks of low quality and poor planning -- non-functioning wireless, out-of-order and impossible-to-find toilets, signs that looks like they were made in the 1950s), the only gates in use always being the farthest ones from the terminal -- the last thing people want is to stand around for an hour and then get yelled at because they aren't standing in the magic spot that the $2 webcam can see.

I am sorry - could you specify which airport you are describing here? It is certainly not the Suvarnabhumi I have been through on numerous occasions.

Had a bad day did you? :whistling:

  9. As I was on the way to ESRI in BKK ...I found myself in the wrong lane.

A smiling policeman sprung out of nowhere....and relieved me of 400 baht.

This question is specifically for jackspratt, pampal and livinLOS.

I'm encouraged to know your Garmins works with TSM.

I'm off to Oz in a week or two..and since I know your GPS works...I am again tempted to buy.

BUT BUT in the light of the fact that my wallet is 400 baht lighter, I am anxious to know...does Junction View work?

If I had it...JV would have saved me 400 baht.

If your GPSs have JV...I'll buy another Garmin in Oz.

    If they don't..I wont.

    Thanks

My Garmin is a 260, so has neither junction view nor lane assist.

My understanding is that the Thai ESRI map requires Thai firmware if you wish to use the above 2 functions - as well as a nuvi model which supports them. I also believe both features are only available in Thai script (and maybe language), but am not certain of this as I really haven't researched it.

  10. wow. This is the accepted 'reality' that is pawned onto a gullible public - sure. But find yourself in the inners of that judicial beast in any Western country and you'll get a STARK wake-up call. A Queen's Counsel tends to hold his own against a Legal Aid reject. The vast majority of cases end up in acquittal. To get convicted of a crime in Australia is so unbelievably hard....you kind of have to be insanely unlucky and / or stupid. I'm sure it's the same everywhere.

    Ignorant, reactionary nonsense.

Conviction rates in higher (non magistrate) courts in Oz in 2007/08 were 78% - acquittal rates were 7%. In magistrates courts, the figures were 87%/4%.
