How do they count 30 days exactly?
Captain Monday replied to sallecc's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Whatever you do, do not overstay. You can change your flight. You can get a 30 day extension. Even though Thailand looks at short overstay lightly and there are no consequences (at this time) other than application to the Thailand Elite programme other countries you may wish to apply for visas or entry take overstay very seriously and can easily identify overstay stamps in your passport. -
1 day overstay
Captain Monday replied to Pdavies99's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Not at all, but I know some people on this site never travel to countries other than Thailand How many times can you overstay one day and be allowed entry to the Elite Programme? I understand making an honest mistake but Basically I guess I am a "goody two shoes" who does not believe in committing crimes on purpose. Then there is the remote chance caught outside the airport on a bar raid or traffic stop whilst on self inflicted overstay. When so easily avoided, the mind boggles Up to you. -

I don't believe in overstaying on purpose. Never have. There are "no consequences" Ever want an Elite visa ? The main reason is the effect it might have of one chooses to apply for a visa or enter a country other than Thailand. Many take overstay seriously. And and you kid yourself if you think they cannot identify Thai overstay stamps Up to you. -

Get an extension or change your flight. -
Why bother comparing actual US security clearances to an FBI check that can easily be procured by anybody? I get them in my home state for $80 to apply for the OA visa. Unless you entered Thailand with a diplomatic / official passport for specific purpose it does not matter what your security clearance was. I don't think people come to Thailand and suddenly become the type of person who assaults somebody in a bar over nothing. Most bad apples could be prevented with a simple criminal check. This tragedy a reminder to those who chose the hard man road of violence and crimes. One shove or a punch can kill, as has been shown many times. Will there be consequences? The Turk must be held in Thailand indefinitely to face criminal charges and civil compensatory damages for his actions.

When I was a little kid I thought rice was tiny pasta, like Orzo. -
Following complaints, Phuket officials swoop on stray dogs
Captain Monday replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
That alone is not the problem. You could just cull every stray in Thailand it would not stop the cultural problem. People will never stop abandoning them. Then others will never stop feeding and tolerating -
Thailand and Russia will hold high level talks later this month
Captain Monday replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Someday soon it appears the US will fight hot wars with China and or Russia. If escalation to full commitment global thermonuclear exchange can be avoided Thailand will have proven herself a grand ally to whatever side prevails. -

Really Wish I Hadn't Invited My Friend To Visit
Captain Monday replied to Brewster67's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I was once in a "bar" with a guy his first time in Thailand he said something about tattoos that was misinterpreted. Suddenly a lady is yelling "you get out" thus drawing the attention of some western lads perhaps in there already to possibly become aggressive, so I suggested we book it . It was a misunderstanding could have happened to anyone. A memory and a good laugh for sure I don't invite anyone to Thailand or suggest it as a destination. Just people I know show up and enjoy a little local insignt when shown around. I'm not playing tour guide at any bar-beer though these lust seekers can create their own adventures, as I did. -

I am not the farang to ignore the small talk and greetings I just don't initiate it. You expect "eye contact" acknowledgement and if not they are weird? I don't think so. Just because somebody is a foreigner does not make them your "fellow". Do Thai men get the same? Off topic but in the US depending on the area if you look at men on the street you are going to have problems. 30 percent are basically primates. I think everybody should be treated with the same level of respect depending on the situation. If you are in my condo or parking area this is communal living space you will get a nod, eye contact, a greeting, in Thai etc. It is racist to assume people who look like white westerners speak English. I'm supposed to say "hi" What is "hi"? Makes no sense. We have a lot of older Thai people and everyone is very polite. There is one foreign guy who is hostile to the point of him getting off the elevator if others board and another overly outgoing and intrusive gormless clod I do my best to avoid, but I would avoid him in any country. -
Other than a few years ago with stories of bent coppers pulling frangs for piss tests totally safe. Watch out for pickpockets. Of course, don't accept hugs from ladyboys. As opposed to USA with aggressive panhandlers, crazed druggies, and "toughs" who are trying to start street hassles in Thailand other than touts I am largely ignored and I like it that way. Seems most who get in trouble here are asking for it.

Really Wish I Hadn't Invited My Friend To Visit
Captain Monday replied to Brewster67's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I was to meet this colleague in BKK then show him around Chiang Mai first thing he tells me is he "can't eat Thai food" and wants to go to the Hard Rock. The main reason for that is I find out it is a pick up joint for foreign men and Thai ladies he heard was good. I never once in my life thought of going there. I ate a hamburger that was simultaneously the most expensive and probably worst hamburger of my life. He left CM after a couple days unimpressed with the lineup there not before blaming me about his laundry which he expected to be on hangers in plastic film as back home not ironed and folded with copious amounts of fabric softener. It is not like he had never been to Thailand before? Another guy had the same reaction complaining about the talent finally after two or three nights I see him at his breakfast with his catch. She looked like any other slapper to me I won't play guide with sex tourists anymore. Very boring lives they lead I would prefer they find escorts and hamburgers in their own country. -
Living on a camper/car for a year BECAUSE you are traveling and want to see the Natl parks sounds totally normal. Not because you have a pathological fear of spending your own money because you worry it will run out. I’d rather die broke.

I could go on an on about cheap pilots but there was this one guy some years ago who lived in a small Toyota and took showers at the beach in Hawaii even though he had enough resources and income to own several houses on the mainland that he rented out. Because he was too cheap to spend a few hundred a month on a crashpad or hotel rooms,"foolish" expenditures. Not a surfer or some free spirit, just a nutter. He looked like a homeless person in a dirty wrinkled uniform. Not right in the head.

Exactly, As I am already insured I only ever bought useless and redundant "travel insurance" except when Thailand required it including covid. Reading the policy details left me with same affect, countless exclusions. Medical evacuation as only needed to the nearest point of service where treatment could be provided. Maybe repatriation, of your remains in a mortuary urn? I have seen an accident insurance advertisement somewhere that claims actually covers these medically assisted flights back to home country to continue treatment. That might be worth investing in but I have never seen the details of such a policy.
