Cabinet approves plans to attract long-stay foreigners to Thailand
Scott Tracy replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
If anyone trusts the Thai government to stick to the decisions regarding the so called 'long term' visa, in my opinion, they are foolish beyond belief. This is a 5 year visa, with the 'opportunity' to extend for another 5 years. I am a professional worker, out of retirement, having lived in Thailand for 3 years under a non-O-A visa, extending yearly, firstly leaving and returning to the country before the visa expired, second by reporting to Immigration to extend the stay. 90 day reports, extensions, certificate of residence for driving license renewal...nice days out, but frustrating. Will all this be required should I wish to be the professional that wishes to work from Thailand, or the pensioner... Oh and by the way... What's the difference between professionals and highly skilled professionals? -
Hang gliding and paragliding has moved on a lot since I partook in what was known in my day as parascending. There were 4 grades of parascending qualifications under the old British Parascending Association, but it did not stop unexpected incidents from happening. There is no substitute for stupidity, and none for force of nature. We had risk mitigation, think thin, arms up, hands over face, etc, when meeting anything other than the ground. Perhaps the instructor did mess up, maybe he didn't, but both survived, which is a good start.

I'm confused. Which is not hard for me. it's good that there are more cases of DUI, or good that RTP caught more people DUI? nothing will change unless and until Thai people treat drunk drivers as pariahs. Friends take away keys, make people stay overnight, etc... But this will not happen in my lifetime, I expect.

DUI in Thailand: RTP warned of possible 10 year prison terms
Scott Tracy replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Just goes to show. Deterrence of a possible big fine and jail does not work. The DUI drivers will not stop unless there is a social climate change. Until people decide drink driver is anathema. Attitude change is required. -

Why ‘mercy’ for mega-corruption convicts could cost Thailand dearly

Some people from the village in which I stay went to their local clinic late last week to get their 2nd jab. I went to see if I could get a booster. 2nd Pfizer jab was 3 months to the day ago. We were all told....booster is not due or available until 6 months after second Pfizer jab... For goodness sake.

Thai House Speaker complains of too much game playing in parliament
Scott Tracy replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Grow up, Mr Speaker. This is politics, what do you expect? It's all a game to those who play. You played it and continue to do so. As for the fear of tainting Parliament... Too late to concern yourself with that. -
No personal health insurance including repatration...? From reading other people's posts, evidently the school provided cover, and it amounted to an ambulance trip and a stay in ICU. Dang... Why not stay here and recover here, is the UK National Health Service better? I guess there's family there though. A place to stay for full recovery. Physio...support... God bless. I hope you get well soon and sue the backside off the people whose handrail collapsed.

Scott Tracy replied to snoop1130's topic in Isaan News
No <deleted> Sherlock. It's heading to New Year. Those who are not already home because of Covid are on their way home now. Traffic will only get worse. Accidents will happen. Why is this even news? -

I guess it depends on perspective... Science has developed weapons of mass destruction, but did we need them? Science developed many things, but the choice to use them does not always fall to the Scientist. The Polio vaccine, most would contend is beneficial. The day after pill, the condom, water purification, fire, cooking, is this not all science too? The bouncing bomb, the aeroplane, the missile, all borne by Science... The Romans knew the earth was spherical, probably other 'civilisation's did as well, probably well before them...

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/coronavirus-vaccine/ How well do the COVID-19 vaccines work? Anyone who gets COVID-19 can become seriously ill or have long-term effects (long COVID). The COVID-19 vaccines are the best way to protect yourself and others. Research has shown the vaccines help: reduce your risk of getting seriously ill or dying from COVID-19 reduce your risk of catching or spreading COVID-19 protect against COVID-19 variants The 1st dose should give you some protection from 3 or 4 weeks after you've had it. But you need 2 doses for stronger and longer-lasting protection. There is a chance you might still get or spread COVID-19 even if you have a vaccine, so it's important to follow advice about how to avoid catching and spreading COVID-19. From the UK National Health Service website. Credible enough...?

Fundamentals... Building schools near main roads, or building main roads near schools, either way, making children cross major roads....but, having done that, a footbridge, an underpass, or whatever it takes to separate children from vehicles. Failing that, a crossing with barriers, flashing !ights, police officers, crossing patrols, fences, walls... All sorts of options. Get it done.
