  1. Why do you say "old farts"? Pattaya is full of reprobates of all ages. As far as wanting to think "that their lives are relevant", silly comment. They are there for reasons immediately obvious to the most casual observer as your photo illustrates.
  2. I'm very proud of gg who has recently become a statistical researcher. I don't remember hearing about this until recently. Congrats on your new profession,
  3. I like Pattaya. I wish I could go there more often. Darn job in Bangkok cuts into my free time.
  4. I think it's just a numbers thing. Lots of Brits are here and a few are bad actors. Now if the Maltese were constantly in the news for bad behavior it might mean something is amiss with the character of people from Malta. As far as Thais, I think a farang is a farang. My coworkers for instance don't seem to know or care if I am from UK, US or OZ, all the same to them I think.
  5. Would you really expect those things in an article like this?
  6. Drunken rage and ... kills ex-wife, kills best friend, kills drinking pal, kills brother/father/sister/mother, kills next door neighbor. I once talked to a cop in California who said he had never been on a domestic violence call where drugs or alcohol were not involved. Of course not all violence is alcohol-related but it is a common thread in a lot of these tragic stories.
  7. You should demand she return your letter sweater and class ring.
  8. I don't find it hard to believe at all. All the posters who talk about "brown envelopes" I have always thought very few have first hand knowledge of bribes. A lot of posters want to seem worldly and sophisticated and post as if they know something when all they know is barstool banter. I am not trying to say that there is no corruption or bribes passed in Thailand just that the direct knowledge of it probably doesn't reach the average poster here.
  9. Self-report of happiness? Maybe more complicated than its seems at first glance.
  10. I was told by a MRT. employee that I couldn't top off my MRT card back in October. I went to the office at a different station and topped it off no problem. Hoping that this is a similar problem, one office enforcing the rules creatively. I don't want to pay fares with a bank card, although I suppose it would be ok.
  11. Why is there no yawn emoji??? Some posts scream for a yawn emoji. Is there a wild boar emoji, could be rhyming for "mild bore".
  12. I see Thais buying them as well. They seem to be popular.
  13. It does seem to be true that as a group cops favor tatts .
  14. "A work of art to most." Beeatch please.
  15. I think it is not meant seriously. Thing is it's a guaranteed hot thread with tattoo haters (I admit to being one, just on an esthetic level) and the leaders of the civil rights for the tatted folks all joining in.
  16. "That you don't see many tattoos people have because clothes hide them and they're likely people you know and respect?" Wait, is the tattoo trifecta coming? People with tattoos are richer, better educated and more successful than those without? This repeated claim does not match well with my experience of the people of the tatts.
  17. Most of the tatted guys I see are pretty muscular, maybe less well-read. I would say they need a library card more than a gym membership.
  18. Just a guess, but if you are too cheap to tip them you would be too cheap to pay a decent wage if you employed them. This is the classic tightwad response to any tipping discussion.
  19. I wasn't arguing. Just stating a different perspective. You have a great overall experience except for in this thread apparently.
  20. Possibly the reverse, not a novice. Although taxi drivers here are not winning any awards I would say if you only take taxis in tourist areas you get a the worst possible sample. The longer you live here and the farther you are from tourist areas you will get fewer bad drivers. But you will still occasionally get some very bad ones I admit.
  21. You might want to look up "thick" and "slow" and then "thick and slow" and see what those phrases mean.
  22. When you quote Pee Wee Herman you should give him credit. Shameful use of his material without crediting him.
  23. "For me, it is mobility. I think about it more and more everyday. The ability to move freely, confidently, independently, with agility and speed." I agree. I have found that exercises like we learned in Physical Education in school have helped me. Calisthenics, body weight exercises, and low weight high repetition have helped me a lot. I invested in some exercise stuff, a stationary bike, a smart scale, recently a bargain smart watch from Amazfit. I don't wanna go to the gym and all of these were reasonably inexpensive. I had gained a shameful amount of weight and I have reversed that trend. In my experience you can approach it as a gradual change and it works well.
  24. This was in response to "Trying to spend all the money I've accumulated over the years." It isn't strange if you understand that it is bragging.
