  1. But will the batteries be charged from a power grid that is powered by fossil fuel plants? If so is there really a large benefit? I don't know so I'm asking.
  2. From the Merriam-Webster Dictionary website, apparently this is a hotly debated topic by English teachers. "Do You 'hock' or 'hawk' a loogie? A question for the ages What to Know Both "hock a loogie" and "hawk a loogie" are acceptable for describing forcefully spitting out a mass of saliva and phlegm from the throat. Hock and hawk both refer to the action of spitting." https://www.merriam-webster.com/grammar/do-you-hock-or-hawk-a-loogie
  3. "Happiness is an inside job." Attributed to William Arthur Ward but I don't know who he is. Self help writer I guess.
  4. With the existence of MMA competitions there is no reason for these yobs to fight in the public streets. Oh wait, there is one. They prefer to be selective about who they assault, prefer if it is someone who weighs substantially less and has a low probability of hurting them.
  5. Not long ago I would have agreed with you. But now I have to disagree. I have recently been informed on AN that people with tattoos are likely to be more intelligent, richer and more successful than me. And this was from a poster who states he has no tattoos so I guess it must be true. I have been so wrong about the people of the tat.
  6. How is it that no-one even mentions the facts surrounding the Pope's death? Is this a conspiracy? If not why not a peep about an obvious possibility? No other conspiracy possibility no matter how unlikely is silenced like this. Inquiring minds want to know.
  7. You are wrong in your assumptions. As this is a discussion group and discussions go where they will, this one has moved on from the original point which still stands. It has become a discussion about Garcia. The original point which is incontrovertible, is that Trump grossly misunderstood a photograph which a child could have interpreted and then aggressively doubled down on his error in a televised interview. This indicates severe cognitive limitations on Trump's part. His doubling down on his error in the ABC interview indicates (as others have pointed out) that the Dunning-Kruger effect is at play here. Point is the president's cognitive capacity is revealed to be very limited. Most of the discussion here has ignored these facts.
  8. The white skin is a dead give away. No other country has it.
  9. Well, as an "English teacher" I assume you consulted the OED and were disappointed. Had you the wherewithal of a 12 year old you would have tried Google and found: ["Hock a loogie" means to forcefully spit out a mass of saliva and phlegm from the throat. It's an informal term for clearing one's throat and forcefully expelling mucus and saliva. The word "loogie" refers to the mass of saliva and phlegm itself. ] I searched "hawk a loogie" and got the result above. Having only encountered the phrase in conversation I was unaware of the standard spelling.
  10. bye bye Belgie. (Remember James Coco in "Murder by Death" as faux Poirot "I'm not a Frenchie, I'm a Belgie".)
  11. But you are a Brit. Everything fine in the UK? Moving on to solve the problems in US? Thanks a bunch.
  12. I have dated women from several Asian and Latin American countries. One thing that definitely sets Chinese women apart, they will hawk a loogie like a lumberjack in front of anyone. No one else seems to do this.
  13. Tattoos are one of several predictors of behavior, although not a hard and fast rule to classify people. Swagger is another one, I'm talking about literal swagger when walking. Walking like Conor McGregor, that is: like a guy with a feeling of confidence that walking into the Dollar Store knowing you have a ten dollar bill brings. Talking very loudly in public places, especially when using profanity or bragging. Often these 3 go together. Now some people think of all these as indicating someone they would like to spend time with socially. I don't.
  14. Lack of foresight? Poor impulse control?
  15. Right because someone would have to be mind-bogglingly stupid to think that, right? Yet Trump,,, ... and doubles down on it.
  16. Wow, that's great. I get the notice of due date as well. I find (think?) that if I wait for the notice I don't get approved online. If I go online at the start of the reporting interval I usually get approved online.
  17. This guy is an enthusiastically learning about the USA. He is not a hater, just enjoying learning and is enthusiastic. Always, learning about the UK at the same time.
  18. Mob rule and manipulation of factions by an unscrupulous leader have long been recognized as a risk in a democracy. See he Federalist Papers, particularly Federalist No. 10.
  19. "Maybe next time she'll discuss issues amicably instead of demanding. " Yes, a little negotiation might lead to an agreement with both side only a little unhappy, Not meant sarcastically, in situations such as this sometimes nobody is 100% satisfied.
  20. (apologies to KhaoHom, I believe he was quoting someone else, this was not his info) So those numbers would fit well with those below the mean on a normal distribution of intelligence getting tattooed while those of average intelligence or above declining to get tattoos.
  21. The most appropriate quote I can think of for this is from Groucho Marx: "Who you gonna believe, me or your own eyes?" And in this case ears as well.
  22. Yes, it beggars belief. But that is exactly what he is saying, repeatedly, adamantly, clearly.
  23. "The actual "MS 13" was added to the photo" exactly the point of this thread. Trump repeatedly and vehemently insisted that those characters were tattooed on the guy's hand when anyone can see they were added to the photo. It goes to competence, mental acuity. Nothing to do with the deportee, all about Trump.
  24. It's in the video, did you even view the video?
