  1. Thanks circa02. I am guessing it would be a waste of time as you say. Also, my experience on the phone with SCB wasn't promising. I wish I had a choice (I guess strictly speaking I do) but my (prospective) employer strongly prefers employees to use SCB and pays to SCB 5 days earlier than other banks. I have heard KBank is easier to deal with but until I am contracted and through my probationary period I will try to "hear and obey" with the company.
  2. I have read several times while googling this that SCB only requires a passport and a deposit in Thai Currency. But I have not seen any mention of what visa might be required. I called SCB and was told to come into the branch. (I called SCB branch at Central Chitlom because I have seen mentioned that branches in tourist areas are more likely to open an account for foreigners). The person was apparently trying to be helpful but wasn't sure of the answer. She said things I didn't understand as well about SCB getting verification from my prospective employer. So I wasn't sure what she was telling me. I am on an SETV. I have a job offer and my prospective employer is applying for a non B visa for me. Thay have asked me to open an account at SCB for deposit of my salary. Should I just wait until I get the non-B visa? thanks.
  3. I am 68 years old, but I have the appearance of a 67 year old.
  4. I think casinos would/will be disastrous for Thailand. I have been told by several Thai acquaintances that a lot of Thai people don't make even the simplest financial plan and have poor foresight with respect to financial matters. My experience with Thai people, although limited, bears this out. I think this would mean financial ruin for some Thais. Same is true in the west I guess, for most the casino is just occasional diversion, tempered by financial reality, but some end up losing the house.
  5. Right when her correct response should have been, "Well, go to Big C".
  6. Yes but it was confusing "picked up a 20 kg explosive device and threw it into a tank after it was placed against the front door of the premises." Threw it into a tank after it was placed against the front door; what was written made it sound like "the tank" was placed against the front door. Pronouns are meant to refer to the immediately preceding noun in most cases. Water tanks aren't easy to move. As a piece of writing the story is not completely useless, it can always be used as a bad example.
  7. Possibly I didn't make my point very well. I won't belabor it.
  8. You are posting on this group to say that you find Thai people annoying? Interesting.
  9. Sorry to here this was done to you. Hope you get well quickly and completely. Best wishes for your recovery.
  10. Ok, I extended my SETV today and it is good until November 23d. (Thank you Dr. Jack for helping me avoid an overstay.) I will have had two 90 day SETVs at that time and about 176 days in Thailand, as about 4 days I was in Laos applying for the second SETV. I am going through the process of acquiring a non-B visa and a work permit, I have been offered a job as a teacher. The non-B application may not be complete at the time my tourist visa expires. So if necessary I was thinking I would leave Thailand and return on a visa exempt entry. That would give me 30 days which my prospective employer says should be more than enough time. I have been told two contradictory things about what to say if I am questioned by immigration officer about my stay in Thailand when trying to re-enter as visa exempt. One is just to say I am here as a tourist, and to absolutely avoid any mention of getting a job in Thailand. As this is a red flag when on a tourist visa. The other is that I could just explain to IO that I am in the middle of the hiring process and I need to extend to complete it. Anyone have any advice or knowledge about this.
  11. Not making any assumption, hence the question mark. You presume?, no you make an assumption.
  12. There is a product for dogs called "Happy Wormer"; is it somehow used as a recreational drug? Maybe it is actually called Happy Jack wormer. Jeez, people so crazy.
  13. I am a new hire. They will begin taking care of all the visa issues beginning with the non B application. As far as expenses, I have to pay the 1st non B fee, they will pay work permit and subsequent visa fees.
  14. I have a strong preference to call these benefits "retirement pensions". I don't like to think of myself as an "old age pensioner" even if everyone else calls me that.
  15. Let me try again with songs from the soul and R&B genre: "If you don't know me by now", by Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes "Oh Girl" by the Chilites "Baby I need your lovin'" by The Four Tops
  16. Sorry, got sidetracked when the guy said Aerosmith sucked, I am not a fan of the group, have never owned one of their albums. But they are a skilled band that can play, so I defended them. But you're right I got sidetracked. This is a fun discussion, thanks for starting it.
  17. I'm ok. I'm not on overstay yet, so this will hopefully be an inexpensive lesson to learn. Blind luck, but I have a few days to go apply for extension.
  18. So in other words you didn't listen to "My Big Ten Inch".
  19. "My main point is being lost here. " No, it isn't. You are a professor of the obvious. Everyone knows that we are unrealistic about romantic love. "So what", is what you don't get.
  20. Quote 'why do you even need "to rock"?' The point is, that song illustrates that whatever kind of music you might prefer, Aerosmith are a group of skilled musicians. Give a listen to the band on "Big Ten Inch", a lot of bands could not (cannot) play like that. You don't like Aerosmith, ok, but they can play.
  21. Jack I apologize for my ignorant reply. I misunderstood. Thanks for setting me straight.
  22. Aerosmith can/could rock. This song was not written by them either, originally they used it's original title "My Big Ten Inch", but they got PC I guess.
