Laptops normally have pretty good internal antennae. Unlikely that a USB adapter like that will improve it, especially at that price.

As mentioned, moving or upgrading your wireless router might be a better option. Or some kind of mesh setup.

You should try reading too ????

It's public WiFi within a guesthouse. OP hopes using a cheap USB network adaptor hung on a curtain taking it closer to the public router and appending a long USB extension cable to the curtain hung USB adaptor witl do the trick.

I'd say it's more convenient to buy an unlimited SIM data package...

Often the problem in guesthouses is that the router is just a little too far.  If i lift my laptop up now the internet connects but sitting on my bed it does not.

So i might try the antenna for 70 baht.  Also with a usb extension cable will be more compact.

Are you bothering to read the replies? You have already been told that it is not an antenna. The description also makes no mention of it being called an antenna. It's a USB network adapter; a substitute for the one in your laptop.

An unlimited data pack via SIM costs as little as 150 baht per month; you can use your Smartphone as a hotspot.

It will cost less and be more convenient than a cheap and nasty USB network adaptor and  extra long USB extension cable.

Better you check your facts before posting. These are hard times; you can hurt people's business with your careless posts. So instead of arrogantly defending your ego, better you apologise to the businesses that you have accidentally maligned.

    Concoct?

I just asked a question, because I did not remember the name.  There WAS an Italian rstaurant left side on Naklua/18 and that IS closed and for rent now.

You asked if it is on the left side of soi 18. It is. But you did not wait for any replies, instead asserting that it was closed and for rent. Not intelligent. The restaurant you describe is not Fusillo. Ridiculous to post such a thing without checking the name of the closed restaurant. What is wrong with you?? ???? Check before you post. It takes just seconds ???? https://web.facebook.com/pages/category/Wine-Bar/Fusillo-Italian-restaurant-and-pizza-482445645471219/

    Thankyou for the detailed reply.

You named Fussioles in Naklua/18. Was that on the left side when coming from Naklua Rd? If so, it's closed and "for rent".

Grottino once was my absolute favorite, but that was many years ago when it was owned by a Swiss guy called Reto, who later opened something on the dark side (sadly too far for a fast pizza).

When he left, his pizzariolo and some staff switched to the other side of the street to Little Bella Italia. The man knew how to make a pizza.

But anyway, with all those recommendations given in this thread I will have to check a lot.

Thanks to everybody. I wish you all many delicious meals ????

Not sure as to why you would concoct such as story with regard to Fusillo. It is alive and kicking on Soi 18. They only just recently refurbished the building; nice location.

Similarly, Grand Orchidee moved across the road, next to the upcoming Centrepoint Grande. from soi 33. They seem to be busy almost evry night.

  6. In fact, you don't need to spend more, as suggested by dddave; as there are alternatives at the same price.

TCL for instance also have a three year warranty.

Some more examples; Aconatic WebOS TV screen has a stated brightness of 250 nits. The Mi P1 TV also doesn't quote a brightness level; though expect 300 or above.

There is no mention of colour space, contrast, HDR 10, Dolby Vision etc for the Aconatic. Also no mention of 5GHz capability and probably a fair few other things I haven't tracked.

Very poor description of the specification.

TCL's 50c7000a looks a bit better than the Aconatic at that price point; though only with Android TV version 9. https://shopee.co.th/50-%E0%B8%99%E0%B8%B4%E0%B9%89%E0%B8%A7-4K-QLED-Android-TV-TCL-%E0%B8%9B%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%B0%E0%B8%81%E0%B8%B1%E0%B8%99%E0%B8%A8%E0%B8%B9%E0%B8%99%E0%B8%A2%E0%B9%8C-50C7000A-Quantum-Dot-HDR-10%2B-UHD-50T5000A-Dolby-Google-Assistant-AI-Micro-Dim-i.68457296.12558033051

You can also look at their 2021 range with Android TV 11(the last iteration AFAIK). After 11 the name changed to Google TV.

    https://www.lazada.co.th/products/2021-new-premium-4k-android-11tcl-4k-hdr-smart-tv-0-10-50-led-wifi-smart-tv-os-50linetvpro-google-assistant-netflix-youtube-dolby-vision-atmos-memc-60hz-hand-free-voice-contr-i2386912281-s8119496437.html

  7. For me, the problem with those TVs are the lack of detail in the specification. RAM and storage seem a bit on the low side. Perhaps you can switch between apps in the shop to see how quickly things happen and if to your satisfaction.

For example. what audio and video formats are supported? Screen quality details are also missing.

A slight better example of specification listing shown here: https://www.mi.com/global/product/mi-tv-p1-55/specs

There you can see formats supported and other important details. In this case; it shows more RAM and storage than the Aconatic. Likely a higher spec overall.

But the Aconatic have a three year warranty against one for the Mi.

You cannot use a VPN via WebOS. Only SmartDNS. An example here: https://unlocator.com/setup/

Seems possible to use VPN with Android TV.

I don't have an ANdroid phone sorry (i am using a iPhone 12), and the AIS sim for the 4G device has long expired. Stopped using it the day 3BB fiber internet was  installed because it was horrendously slow!! (As said before  sometimes it wouldn't even open Google)

Edit: it was called AIS 4G Home Wifi (it has 2 lan ports and of course wifi)

Edit 2: Still have the ... thing thought I threw it away

That only tells us that the reception within your home was poor. Once again, if you were actually pulling down 10 Mbps, there would be no issue. There is nothing wrong with the router, only your location.

We don't need the SIM for the device. We can test using your existing SIMs.

    iPhone 12 will work too:

Record the figures at the possible location of the cottage, at four points outside your property and also inside your property.

Then we'll have a better understanding of what is available to you with AIS(if that is the network in the iPhone 12).

So we can look into possibly bringing a stronger signal from outside, inside. An outside aerial might be enough.

    But best to test.

It's actually a good thing that you kept the router; as if we can obtain a strong enough signal outside and better still find a line of sight to the nearest tower; an external antenna might be a solution.

    1390 THB per annum??

    Don't you mean per month?

I had when we build our house (before I could Fiber 3BB in) here 10Mb unlimited from AIS 4G with their white router most of the time I couldn't even open Google!! Let alone stream from Netflix or stream from my other house!  I believe it was 1500 THB per month!!

Edit: No wireless around here, we are rather far from the city so nothing here, 12Call has the best reception here and True the worst but no wireless (except my own)

    First thing to do, if you have an Android phone;

    ,

Run some tests with your AIS SIM around your property and in the intended location of the cottage.

How old is your SIM and what model of Android phone is available to you for the purpose of testing?

    Haha...you are funny ????

First of all, just having a 10 Mbps SIM does not mean you will get 10 Mbps at your given location.

If you were pulling down 10 Mbps, you would be able to stream NextFlix in Full HD with no issue.

So we are looking at issues instead with reception and hardware.

Secondly, I can see the NT Wireless thing went over your head, so let's give some more detail;  It's called NT Wireless but the Internet data is supplied via a SIM card. But your phone or router needs to have the ability to roam on Band 40 to pick up the mobile phone signal.

Thirdly, I have noted that fdsa has posted something whilst I am still composing. I am sure that he is putting your right on the costs of the annual DTAC SIM and will sign praises with regard to it ????

  11. 20 minutes ago, MJCM said:

No that is not an option, I stream movies etc from another location (old house) and use approx (see it in the Wireguard app) around 4-10 Gb a day (sometimes even more) and that is not even including Netflix etc!!

The only thing I could do is load the movies in the House on a portable HDD and then play it, but that is thus without Netflix etc !!

What does this have to do with anything? You can choose a non stop data plan.

It's actually a good idea to have a different system in place. If your main supplier is down for any reason; you have a mobile data back up.

TOT and DTAC being the cheapest option; though best to run reception/speed tests before committing.

So my first stop would be to check if there is Band 40 reception at your place. If so, then you can look at their NT(TOT/CAT) Wireless service. Unlimited data at up to 100 Mbps for 999 baht per annum via SIM.

Second cheapest would be DTAC on Bands 1, 3 & 40. 10 Mbps & 20 Mbps from 1390 baht per annum. You need to be careful when choosing a Router as not all CA combinations are supported. So you'll need to choose one that specifically supports the network you choose.

But if you can receive sufficient speeds without CA, even better.

A 10 Mbps add-on is enough to stream Full HD media. If you can get 20 Mbps and above, then 4k might be plausible,

    NordVpn customer service is abysmal.

I had a problem before and nobody could fix it.

Everytime they made a suggestion , I would do what they told me to do and when it didn't work i contacted them again.

It got to a stage where I was on my EIGHTH customer service agent , each customer service agent could not follow the tracking of the " service number " because it changed everytime I contacted them.

In the end it wore me out , having to go through everything everytime a new customer service agent got involved.

I am pleased my term with them is coming to an end. They are not easy to deal with.

Whoops.... since I don't use a MAC; there is no chance of me attempting to replicate your problem in order to find the solution.

Though I don't understand why you cannot follow their suggestions via Live Chat and stay connected until the problem is solved.

Sorry, let me clarify. I bought a discounted AIS Oppo A53 last December for 1,800 baht (Retail 5,499 Baht) and a postpaid 555 baht + VAT/month package (10 Mbps unlimited plus AIS calls). The 1 year of payments was up on 5th December. They are trying to get me to continue paying the same amount (593.85 baht) even though I now "Own" the phone.

If you want to retain the free AIS to AIS calls; once they issue a Prepaid SIM and before you top it up to add the 4/10/20 Mbps (150/200/300 baht) package, tap in *777*498# and the hit the dial key on your phone. That will change the SIM base promo to a Social SIM; which gives you unlimited AIS to AIS calls whenever you top up 150 baht or more.

Then top up the amount for the pack and apply the pack via call centre or USSD code.

You can also add unlimited any network calls for an extra 59 baht per month.

I think @NE1 has a different issue, which seems to be resolved - he is using a free VPN on chrome, which indicates he isn't using the downloader.

NE1's issue is not resolved. NordVPN works with iPlayer; he just doesn't know how to configure it properly.

Using a free VPN as a workaround doesn't resolve that issue.

Idiots ???? Tell the call centre you want to change the number to Prepaid. Once on Prepaid you can apply unlimited 10 Mbps for 200 baht per month or less(if the call centre agree to 150).

    The deals are on Prepaid.

Just to be clear, your budget is 2,000 - 3,000 baht per month? Right?

All three providers offer unlimited bandwidth (up to 1 Gbps) and unlimited volume (no GB cap) within this price range. AIS has a base package at 1,199 max speed/unlimited volume. Fair use policies are even waived, although there are terms/conditions which allow the provider to limit applications like bittorrent.

Unfortunately these plans require a post-paid, one-year minimum commitment.

I'd recommend a visit to a shop to sort this out, they may require a work permit.

No clue why people are recommending low price, speed limited/unlimited volume packages?

I wouldn't read too much into that Opensignal article; that's aggregated from crowd-sourced data, and probably not representative of what you might experience in your location, with your current hardware.

Mentioned since the OP did not know about them and perhaps assumed that the only option for unlimited was max speed at that cost.

The OP hasn't given any indication that they have the equipment to obtain more than 20 Mbps up/down thus far.

They seem to have changed their tune. A phone I bought for my son last year became out of contract on 5th December. He is on the 10mbps unlimited plus calls package. They would only offer me 299 baht +VAT/month. If I change the number they offered the 100GB deal, no unlimited. No 20 Mbps deals available, unlike Dtac who do a 20mbps deal (1690 Baht a year) so that's where sadly I will be headed. Just sent my passport number through to get my unlock code. AIS seem to be on a bit of a self-destruct mode having lost the Formula 1 not so long ago as well.......

Your post is a bit of a muddle. You talk about a phone being out of contract...what does that have to do with anything??

Then you state that he is on a 10 Mbps package. So if he is on a package, why does he need another?

They would only offer 299 baht + VAT for what? Postpaid? Change it to prepaid and take advantage of the offers that way. 10 Mbps with free AIS to AIS calls for 200 baht per month is achievable; but 10 Mbps for 150 baht can also be applied to the Prepaid SIM by AIS.

Not sure how you've managed to mess that up.

Just about everyone I know with an existing SIM has been moved to 10 Mbps for 200 baht or less.

Change the number? From which network to which network?

No wonder they could not advise you better; their heads must have been spinning.

20 Mbps IS available; but only monthly, at 300 baht per month. You can only subscribe in 15 provinces.
