Lucky man, as I was only just informed of the Tesco Lotus clearance of wines yesterday, so shot along to my big local Tesco Lotus store and managed to pick up just a few bottles left, for a friend of mine, but I did see my favourite sweet dessert wine, the Moscatel de Valencia on special at 225 baht (as you say) so I bought the last three bottles of that.

I previously bought the Châteauneuf du Papes on special at 875 baht, but even for that price it was a poor example (IMO) of what that wine should be like, however I'm wondering what the Margaux will be reduced to, as would like to try it.

Will have to pay a few visits to keep an eye on this!

Reds I noted were the  Margaux 2016 (830 baht), a Faugeres(435 baht perhaps), Medoc(235 baht), Marlborough as above.

Really bought the cheaper wines for cooking more than anything else. But I can try them at the same time. If good, some might go down with food, as opposed to just in the food.

MARGAUX 2016 is 830 baht. That is the reduced price.

Sold in the UK for £22.  https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/295163689

It's the most expensive option other than Champagne.

    Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2017 goes for £18: https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/254092414

Any favorites? Any good ones, of basic chugging wines? I have a nearly impossible time finding a good wine here, for under 1,000 baht. Would rather buy a bottle of El Jimador Reposado tequila at the Gourmet Market liquor store for 1,200.

Picked up a few bottles today; a 2018 Marborough Pinot Noir (Indevin) 235 baht; which I envisage to use for cooking purpose, a 2017 Soave Superiore Classico(Cantina di Monteforte) 270 baht; which might actually be drinkable, a Prosecco(Cantine Maschio) 280 baht and a Moscatel de Valencia. 225 baht. No 'fruit wine'.

Why not ask  Colin Neil if he was  obeying the rules when he  suffered  his  horrific  injuries where the rules didn't apply to the perpetrator., the rules are selectively enforced or not  enforced in Thailand due often to incompetence or  unwillingness due to lack of  financial incentives. On top of that there is the "making up rules"  as they go along, rules for one  area but  not in another.

Excuse me, but I find your 'straw man' argument somewhat distasteful.

Reading the headline of this post and then reading below from 8 days ago put a big smile on my face. (I hope I am allowed to link here from the Nation paper. If not sorry...).

As an aside, and as far as I remember, other than the Chinese, only AZ, JJ, Moderna and Sputnik have applied for registration in Thailand. Has Pfizer applied yet?

    • Thai FDA gives 3 private companies ...

Three private firms have been given the okay to import and register for the administration of Covid-19 vaccines, while another company is under consideration, Dr Paisan Dankhum, secretary-general of the Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA), said on Monday.

“So far, 14 companies have applied for permission to import the vaccine but only four have submitted the necessary documents. The FDA has been carefully considering all candidates with a focus on public safety and health,” he said.

Paisan added that the FDA has never blocked any private party from importing vaccines as claimed on some media channels. “Up until now, the Government Pharmaceutical Organisation has been the sole importer of Covid-19 vaccines and the FDA has been inviting qualified private firms to register as importers,” he said. “We will hold a meeting with the Thai Chamber of Commerce, the Federation of Thai Industries and representatives from private hospitals to address procedures that importers need to follow.

“The FDA has also launched an online platform for companies to register their health products with speed, convenience and transparency,” added Paisan. “We have been strictly following the law in registration procedures with no special treatment being given to any particular applicant to ensure people are safe and can benefit from the products.”

Most UK travel insurance quote comparison sites (for vacations) do not include Covid cover with the insurance at all, and the ones I have seen that do, do not cover the level required by Thailand.

I think that salient point is this:

    Quote

The FCDO currently advise against all but essential travel. If you travel against the FCDO advice, no cover is available under any of our policies.

The FCDO currently advise against all but essential travel.  If you’re planning a non-essential trip, and this advice doesn’t change by your departure date, you will not be covered if you go abroad. You will also not be covered for cancellation due to the advice preventing travel, although we expect holiday companies to be flexible and to offer refunds or date changes if travel is not possible.

If you are able to travel, either because the FCDO advice changes to allow it or because your trip is already legally permitted under the rules, you will be covered for:

    • Medical expenses if you need treatment for Coronavirus while abroad, including up to £2,000 to cover additional accommodation costs if this treatment means you need to extend your trip.
    • Cancelling or cutting short your trip if you, a member of your family or travelling party, are medically diagnosed with Coronavirus or personally instructed to isolate by an NHS service or medical professional.

Please note that there is no cover for any other Coronavirus-related claims, including lockdowns, quarantines or other government restrictions. All other terms and conditions of the policy apply

So there is coverage available; but you will at least need a certificate showing US$100,000 at a minimum of coverage to present to the Embassy...AFAIK.

ok thanks, thats what i need. I will work on getting my app to work

6 Mbps for 300 baht per month or 10 Mbps for 300 baht per month...let me think... ????

    Prices are 150 for 2 Mbps, 200 for 4 Mbps or 300 for 10 Mbps....unless you buy a specific 3 or 12 month pack.

You can add unlimited any network calls for 59 baht to any of the monthly packages.

Price for DTAC 90 day 10 Mbps SIM is 360 baht.

what is the latest update, for unlimited 6 months plan. how do i get this? i just bought a prepaid sim for 50 baht and downloaded the app

Strange that people here are pushing you towards the official shops.

You were better off buying a SIM with a package, as opposed buy a basic SIM and adding a package.

"Unlimited" is rather limited in scope.

Unlimited 10 Mbps will cost you 300 baht per month. You don't need to enter a shop to obtain it and I have no idea as to why anyone would suggest that you do.

Unlimited 10 Mbps for 12 months with DTAC will set you back 1400 baht via Lazada or 1600 baht direct with DTAC.

Perhaps do some research to decide what you actually need/want.

I'll need a tool kit.  Anyone got a recommendation.  I watch a guy at my tech shop remove my SATA drive and it wasn't simple.  The sucker was wedged into the enclosure.  I'm surprised he got it out without damaging it.  He used a small plactic wedge to pry it out.

Toolkit? You need a screwdriver or two. 20 baht shop jewellery tool set. No plastic wedge necessary, but it shows that he didn't want to scratch your laptop. The video shows exactly what needs to be done.  It is simple if it's the same model as shown in the video. Likely is.

There used to be a place in Phuket Town known locally as Soi 11 I was told by a Thai friend no farangs allowed but I never went there honest

I think I went there, accidentally. Not sure, it was more than twenty years ago. Saw pictures of girls faces in black & white outside a place and heard some caterwauling inside. Had no idea. Decided to ask and one girl who spoke English was summoned. She convinced me to go in to take a look.

Sat down and she sat next to me.  The caterwauling continued from the girls on the stage. Girl was friendly and communicative, though kept pinching me from time to time and at some point kept stating "Sa bai". I was brought a drinks menu and became a little apprehensive, expecting a rip off.

Finally it became clear that the girl was asking for a 'Spy' wine cooler. ???? Priced at a very reasonable 30 baht. No rip off at all.

Girl seemed to think that I preferred one of the girls on the stage more than herself and asked me if I wanted her to sit with me instead. I declined. After I few more minutes I had heard enough and was ready to go on my way. Didn't really understand the whole experience at the time with the garlands etc. But the girl was pleasant enough and not pushy....even when I refused her request for 100 baht. I guess I was too concerned about being cheated, so perhaps wasn't that relaxed nor generous.

A pleasant enough experience. No shenanigans; I was only out for an exploratory walk. Though she did offer to accompany me to the toilet. Again I declined her kind offer.

I think there may have been other establishments and pimps around. Remember seeing one with a particularly long Pinky nail. Perhaps that was the way you could recognise them.

Well, as I said before, my understanding was that this was a "Thai" place, though obviously a lot of local expats know about it too. Don't think too many Thai guys are cruising Beach Road or LK Metro looking for ST hook-ups.

I remember reading about it perhaps twenty years ago or more. Maybe on Nanaplaza or one of the forums around at that time.
