To which god are you referring? Some gods do a bit better than others. None of them exist. Jesus played baseball for the Giants, A's Mets and Astros. His surname was Alou.

Leaving aside a minor math miscalculation on his slide, the point he is trying to make is that only the capital gain, not the principal amount originally invested, is assessable income. Since the remittance also includes the principal amount, it should not be declared in its entirely. Only the portion that represents the capital gain is assessable income. Assuming that the investment was purchased with funds earned prior to January 1st 2024, this would be correct. Assuming that the remitted amount of thb 1,722,991 per his slide is correct, and the gain was 40%, the capital gain would be 492,283, not 487,341.

WISE just shut me down!
Etaoin Shrdlu replied to PumpkinEater's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I suspect that Wise's AML/KYC algorithms somehow decided that you were no longer resident at your old address. Perhaps they tap into IRS databases for this as they do to verify SSN/ITIN. I think Wise limits each person to one account and that account likely must be set up and maintained to be compliant with the account owner's actual physical or tax residence. You may have to either change the country and give Wise sufficient Thai address details to do so, or perhaps close the old account and open a new one. Here's a bit from Wise's website: https://wise.com/help/articles/2949804/how-does-wise-verify-my-address -
Do covid-19 mRNA vaccines cause Turbo-cancers?
Etaoin Shrdlu replied to Red Phoenix's topic in Covid/Vaccine
Use proper motor oil in your car and make sure you change it according to the manufacturer's service manual and the turbocharger will not get cancer. -
It's been a while since I've had an inkjet printer that used replaceable ink cartridges, but I seem to recall having them re-filled instead of buying new ones. Small shops in IT malls did this.

Tax without "sticker" ? (online/application)
Etaoin Shrdlu replied to aldriglikvid's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
You'll need to take the compulsory insurance document (Por Ror Bor) to the DLT and present it when you pay the road tax. You'll then get the square proof of road tax payment sticker to attach to your bike. -
Back in the day Kloster beer was available. I believe it was made under license from Beck's. It's long gone now. It cost a few baht more than Singha. Amarit was on tap in a number of places, but haven't seen it in years, either. That was before Carlsberg came to Thailand, got bought out and morphed into Chang. Boon Rawd had not yet launched alternatives to Singha. Thai beers seem to be mass-market beers of generally low quality intended to meet low price-points. Carabao Dunkel isn't bad, but it is a bit fizzy for a dark beer in my opinion.

There is an amateur radio society in Thailand. It would be a good place to start. https://www.qsl.net/rast/

I understand that the RD considers IRAs to be self-directed pensions and under the terms of the US/Thailand DTA, Thailand has exclusive right to tax income from pensions. Thailand therefore won't accept a tax credit for any US tax paid on remitted IRA withdrawals. Instead, Thai tax must be paid on the portion of distributions remitted to Thailand and then a tax credit applied to US taxes.

Thai tax and SuperRich

This will also create a record with the Thai bank that owns the ATM and by extension the BoT. -

Because they are requited by government regulations to do so. Lose license if they don't. -
Hi Pete, I'm not aware of any specialist insurers in Thailand. The market here is still not very well developed and most insurers only offer standardized products. You will probably be limited to whatever maximum limit for personal property can be provided under a standard renter's insurance policy. Some insurers may be willing to provide higher limits, however. You've already found that this is a non-standard type risk for Thai insurers and may be difficult to insure. My suggestion would be to use a good insurance broker who can try to find a solution. Good luck.

My understanding is that the RD can go back ten years for any year where a tax return is not filed. In other words, having the most recent five years worth of filed returns does not bar the RD from auditing years six through ten for years where no return was filed. But if one has filed for all ten prior years, the RD could only audit years one through five. Just my opinion, however.

Thai tax and SuperRich

A more likely scenario would be one in which someone is audited for some other reason and the RD performs a query on the BoT database(s). -

Licensed money exchanges require presentation of either Thai ID card or passport if a foreigner. I think the info goes to the Bank of Thailand's database, but would likely be available to the RD. -

Many years ago I met someone who was an officer of his home country's police force who was posted to his country's embassy as a liaison officer. His mission was to work with the RTP on cases involving his countrymen. So, yes, there are police from foreign countries here, but they will not have any powers to detain or arrest. While their presence here isn't exactly secret, it isn't widely advertised, either.

When I changed SS Benefits from being deposited via Bangkok Bank's New York office to direct deposit to my Bangkok Bank account here, I sent a new completed SSA-1199 form to Manila FBU as an attachment to an email and I also sent the original by EMS. The FBU did not acknowledge either, but my benefits started to be direct deposited to my account here in Thailand not long thereafter. Perhaps sending a new 1199 by registered mail or EMS with a covering letter requesting the change might help.
