  4. Sanook Thai Caption: Drama of the missing infant corpse Sanook reported on what they called a drama of the missing body of an infant at a hospital in Phayao. They had a video of something in a plastic bag being brought into a morgue as a dog circled. The drama began with a post from Siam Ruam Jai foundation in Phayao, northern Thailand, claiming that a hospital worker stole a corpse. On Sunday at 9pm the foundation along with the mother and father of the child went to the morgue with the dead body and it was arranged with staff on duty that they should pay 2,500 baht for an undertaker to take care of the disposal of the body in a proper fashion. However, next day at 8 am the grandfather of the child turned up to see the face of the deceased child but when the cold storage area was opened the child had gone. A new morgue team was on duty. Staff on duty allegedly told the grandfather that a security guard had removed the body and he went to the director to find out the truth. The hospital's deputy director claimed it was a misunderstanding. The grandfather had not been told of the arrangement made by the parents. It was claimed that the child had been put in a plastic bag and left out behind the mortuary to thaw, something they called a standard practice. The deputy director said that in future parents would have to make all the arrangements themselves. The hospital would just do temporary storage and handle the paperwork. A committee of inquiry would report in 7 days. Pheerapong Nernwichian of Siam Ruam Jai said it was a cover-up of nefarious activities going on at the hospital. He claimed there had been many cases of bodies going missing for purposes unknown. When the foundation had arrived with the grandfather in the morning and not found the body they went searching for it in temples in the area but it could not be found. It was discovered at 8pm left behind the hospital in a plastic bag. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-06-23 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 6. Jars of dried and cured cannabis buds sit on display at the Chopaka cannabis shop in Bangkok, Thailand. by Zsombor Peter BANGKOK — Thailand is facing wide criticism for legalizing cannabis before putting sturdy guardrails against its abuse in place, and doubts the authorities can do much to stem a likely rise in its recreational use. Marking a first for Asia, Thailand pulled cannabis from its list of narcotics on June 9, making its import, export, production, distribution, consumption and possession legal. Anyone can now grow the plant at home, after registering with the government via a mobile app, though commercial growers still need to apply for permits. Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who championed the plan, has tried to dissuade people from lighting up for fun, stressing the plant’s medical virtues and its potential as a cash crop. His ministry warns that anyone smoking cannabis in public can still be charged with causing a “nuisance,” fined $704 and spend up to three months in jail. "Problems occur due to the abuse of cannabis. This is not the aim of liberalizing the use of the plant. We want to promote medical use and boost the income of growers,” Anutin told reporters last week. But others in the government, and in his own ministry, say the move may be premature. 10. Picture: Thai Rath The director of the Department of Medical Sciences appeared at a press conference at the Grand Richmond Hotel in Nonthaburi yesterday to announce the development of a marijuana testing kit. "Test Kann" can detect levels of THC (tetrahrdocannabinol) - the drug that makes users high - above 0.2% in extracts and parts of marijuana plants. Dr Suphakij Sirilak said that health minister and DPM Anutin Charnvirakul wanted medicinal not recreational use of weed. The test kits - that could be produced for less than 100 baht each - could test things such as buds, oil, food and cosmetics, reported Thai Rath. They could be used for legal cases as an initial reference before other tests are carried out. They are not ready for sale and 15,000 kits will initially be provided free for organizations that need them. ASEAN NOW notes that there has always been confusion as to the new law that is undergoing clarification. It mentions "extracts" over 0.2% THC as illegal. Yet, this story mentioned the testing capability for buds or flowers. These are being sold openly throughout Thailand since June 9th with vendors usually stating their THC levels on their advertising with many potent strains exceeding 20%, THC never mind 0.2%. These are not considered extracts. The test kits utilize immunochromatographic tech. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-06-23 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. PHOTO: Prachachat By Nop Meechukhun National – Krungsri Research of Krungsri Bank forecasts Thailand’s tourism sector will gain more of a financial boost due to the government’s various stimulus measures and additional Covid-19 relaxations, but private investment’s growth is still limited. According to the research, the total cancelation of the Thailand Pass in early July to attract foreign tourists and the reduction of the Covid-19 alert level from level 3 to level 2 are expected to gradually boost domestic businesses and economic activities. This includes easing the outdoor mask mandate, a major issue for many international foreign tourists. Moreover, the Ministry of Finance is planning to propose additional measures by the third quarter to reduce corporate income tax to stimulate tourism in the country, by granting private companies the ability to organize trips for their employees to travel domestically to secondary tourist cities and receiving a double tax reduction and reductions in the main tourism cities. https://thepattayanews.com/2022/06/23/krungsri-research-forecasts-thailands-tourism-sector-will-gain-more-of-a-financial-boost-after-government-eases-more-covid-19-restrictions/ -- © Copyright The Pattaya News 2022-06-23 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
