by Tanakorn Sangiam BANGKOK (NNT) - Thai people have become less cautious about COVID-19, according to a survey, while the numbers of daily Covid hospitalizations and deaths have started to show a decline. Conducted nationally by the Department of Health Service Support, the survey shows a 4.27% higher engagement in at-risk activities, and an 11.06% decline in mask-wearing awareness; all contributing to a higher risk for COVID-19 spread. These results came from comparing the data from the first round of survey conducted on 5-31 March with 113,847 respondents, and the latest round on 1-20 July with 28,487 respondents. According to the department, this survey indicates more physical contact due to the relaxed social distancing and masking measures. The Ministry of Public Health still encourages the general public to keep observing the Universal Protection protocol in a stringent manner. Around 77.1% of Thailand’s population has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with two primary doses, while around 45.2% have already received at least one booster dose. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) may scrap the project to move all the overhead electric and telecommunication cables underground, as most telecom service providers have shied away from the project due to its high investment costs, estimated at about 19 billion baht. Deputy Bangkok Governor Wisanu Subsompon said that, at this stage, the city administration has instructed its investment arm, Krungthep Thanakom which is the project owner, to slow down the work, as telecom service providers have shown little interest. He said that, if the project is to proceed to completion, the city administration expects the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), the telecom regulator, to share the costs as well. According to the cabbie, Anurak Nakgamthong, who posted the story, the family, including 50-year-old Daoruang Apainipat, his wife and their four-month-old daughter, were evicted from their rented room in the Laksi railway station area on the night of August 10th. Daoruang admitted that his baby cried a lot, because she had a fever after being vaccinated, and her cries annoyed the landlord, who told them to leave immediately. With no other choice, they took shelter at a nearby market for the night. Picture: Naew Na Naew Na reported that locals in Nan province in the north of Thailand were busy collecting insects called "Jing Krong" in Thai after flood waters in the area receded. After flooding in the area related to tropical storm Mulan things are getting back to normal. Locals were out digging for the insects that they would eat - if they found more they would be able to sell them to make money. Picture: Naew Na It was easy to get 3 baht each and make 200-300 baht a day. Traders were selling 25-27 of the creatures fried at 100 baht a plate. They could only be found once a year according to the media and were creatures collected by local people for consumption and sale. ASEAN NOW understands that the insects may be known as "kisorn" in the north east. Jing Krong is a standard Thai name. Our informant said that they were "aroi mark" - absolutely delicious. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-16 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Big Joke in Phuket: Finds dangerous footpaths and faded Zebra - get it sorted he demands Picture: Siam Rath Poster boy cop of the Royal Thai Police Pol Lt-Gen Surachate Hakpan was in Phuket yesterday checking up on his boss's much vaunted Special Safety Zone 4.0 community policing initiative. Picture: Siam Rath Poster boy cop of the Royal Thai Police Pol Lt-Gen Surachate Hakpan was in Phuket yesterday checking up on his boss's much vaunted Special Safety Zone 4.0 community policing initiative. But during his tour he found plenty of things wrong in the Thalang Road area and told local contractors and officers to get their fingers out and make repairs. First, as reported by Siam Rath, was his observation that there were not enough safety barriers on some repairs to the footpaths. He told the contractor to get it sorted lest there be an accident to members of the public. Then outside a well known restaurant called Raya he noticed that the markings on a Zebra Crossing were faded and this could cause accidents. Picture: Siam Rath He told the Muang district police chief and his deputy to contact the relevant authorities to make repairs. In relation to Smart Safety Zone 4.0 he said it was so much more than CCTV - it was all about the police and the community working together for better outcomes. ASEAN NOW notes that Surachate has been put in charge of reviewing the community policing plan that is the baby of soon to retire RTP chief Pol Gen Suwat Chaengyodsuk. It won an award for community policing in Dubai but few members of the public have a clue what it is. Surachate - known universally by the moniker Big Joke - says that after pilot projects the safety zone plans will be increasingly rolled out. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-16 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Lady wants justice from car manufacturer - they damaged her car not once but TWICE! Picture: Sanook A Thai lady called Phromsiri, 31, went to the Thai media to seek justice after what on the face of it seems some appalling customer service. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1268992-lady-wants-justice-from-car-manufacturer-they-damaged-her-car-not-once-but-twice/ -
Picture: Sanook A Thai lady called Phromsiri, 31, went to the Thai media to seek justice after what on the face of it seems some appalling customer service. Sanook published many pictures of her damaged car but with the make "vaselined" out. Nowhere in a long story was the location or identity of the manufacturer mentioned. We'll leave that speculation up to posters; here is her story. On June 2nd she put her car into the service center for checks as she was planning an up country trip. She handed over the keys to a staffer who promptly backed it into another vehicle causing some scratches to the paint work. Picture: Sanook It was agreed that they would repair the scratches with a new paint job but as Phromsiri was going to another province this was deferred for a while. On 29th July she put her car back in for the paint job as agreed and was told she'd be able to pick it up on August 1st. On 30th July she got a call from the company to say that her car had been damaged when it was being taken to another garage. When she saw it she was shocked to see both the front and the back had been completely smashed in. A meeting with a senior manager was arranged for August 1st. She said she wanted a new car as the vehicle was relatively new - she'd paid just 16 instalments representing a year and a bit. She was told no way. She then suggested that the company return her down payment and 16 instalments and she was prepared to buy a new one from them. This was taken to a committee meeting on August 9th but also rejected. Picture: Sanook The company offered to do a full repair and give her a 30,000 baht extra payment in cash and extend the warranty by two years. This Phromsiri rejected. Her car had been so badly damaged she didn't fancy this resolution. She suggested a third idea. This was to make the repairs and give her 500,000 baht for time wasted and other considerations. She told Sanook that she didn't expect this to be agreed as it was far too much but she expected the company to come back with a revised offer. They didn't, they just rejected her plan out of hand at a commitee meeting on 11th August. So she went to the police to file a report, the media to seek justice and adds further that she plans to contact the watchdog group Damrongtham before taking the matter to court. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-16 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
