  1. Why not? This is part of the vaccination protocol for many Thai people (apologies to Henry123)
  2. I had a veterinary practice in East Gipplsland in Victoria. The practice is still there - I sold out my share. My Dad started showing signs - sundowners syndrome etc from about 78 , but deteriorated rapidly. He had a minor stroke and was admitted to care, but died shortly afterwards. He was very placid when he had dementia, much easier to deal with than before! My Mum , deteriorated more slowly , but required high care for her last 5 years. During this period, she did not know who I was, (or who she was for that matter). She was constantly crying, with intermittent bouts of anger. It was bloody awful - and if she was my patient I would have put her down. (Sounds harsh I know - but she had no Quality of Life). I know many of the early signs to look out for in myself (!) and have instructed my wife to take me for a walk in the forest if I lose the plot!
  3. I have had/am having a fantastic life - and I honestly have no ‘bucket list’. As my body physically deteriorates , I may enact protocols to speed up proceedings. Both of my parents died with dementia. I do not want to play that game. In my working life I euthanised thousands of patients - so I have a more blasé attitude to the sanctity of life. I am all about Quality Of Life.

  5. I love my wife, our home and family , and the more laidback lifestyle we have here compared with the over-regulated and politically correct environment back in Australia. There will always be some things that annoy me here in Thailand, however I am very happy here.
  6. Not trying to be pedantic , just setting the record straight - Mazda stopped selling CX-9 in LOS many years ago - and replaced it in this market with the updated CX-8 . There are 3 for sale on One2Cars.com now - all 09/10 year models. In this country, Mazdas' bread and butter has been the Mazda2, Mazda3 & BT50 models. The original post about the Fortuner GR was in fact a derogatory post about the car - hardly someone coming on to show off their new pride and joy.. Possibly you share other Rhino characteristics - they have very poor vision. Maybe you need to get off your high horse. Get your facts straight before you prejudge & start referring to me as a c...
  7. So sorry to hurt your feelings… Like I said - we are all entitled to our own opinion. It has nothing to do with class or character
  8. The CX9 is not offered in Thailand. The largest AWD family Mazda here is the CX8, which is more carlike than the CX9. In my native Australia, the Fortuner is very unpopular. People see it for what it is - a Hilux (= Revo) with a full metal jacket. Toyota sell many more Rav 4s, Klugers & LandCruisers in Oz - much better cars. In Thailand there is not much choice .
  9. what a boring world it would be if we all had the same opinions! drove 300k today back home, through Bangkok - and the Mazda has adequate power ,is fuel efficient(average 14.5km/l) and is quiet and comfortable - IMO it has style and quality that the Toyota does not have.
  10. A 'sporty' Fortuner is a contradiction of terms. We all know that red cars go faster , and a few more blacked out bits of trim are gangster - but even in 'GR' mode - this car is hardly sporty. I recently test drove the new Fortuner - and I found the wallowing and dipping around corners quite 'agricultural'. We compared the Toyota with the Ford Everest - and ended up buying a Mazda CX8 !
  11. I have a 5 year Elite Visa. I live in Kanchanaburi - so Thai Elite are useless for me for 90 day reporting. Honestly , the 90 day report takes me between 5 and 10 minutes in the local immigration office. I have to do the annual extension here myself as well - no big problem - I just needed a letter from Thai Elite, along with all the other bumff required. Thai Elite say they will help you open bank accounts & get a local drivers licence. I did not need the banking help - and their 'help' in me obtaining a Thai Drivers licence was simply telling me the protocol for getting a license here - so not much help really!! The Only reason why I got the visa was to return to Thailand a little sooner, as the borders were opened to Thai Elite Visa holders a little earlier than some other visa categories. Now I am here, when my 5 years is up - I will go for either a marriage or retirement visa. It is a matter of weighing up leaving 4-800K baht in a bank account (That in theory I still have access to) or giving away 600K + to Thai Elite... A no-brainer in my book.
  12. Thailand has many squirrel species http://www.norththailandbirding.com/pages/galleries/mammals_c/th/th_squirrels_01.html One of our dogs goes crazy whenever we have one near our house. The tree shrew is normally found in Southern Thailand - so it may be unusual to see one in Thailand, though yours may have been an ‘escapee’ as these guys are sometimes kept as pets by Thais.
  13. So - internationally, medical experts warn of the danger of smoking . these same experts warn of the risk of Covid 19 One problem is either ignored or used to create revenue. The other causes immense turmoil around the globe ???? go figure!!
  14. Yes - you are correct. 90 day reporting , & annual extension. They will help you with this if you require.
  15. At first I thought this was the comeback of Vanilla Ice!!
  16. Did he say "money , money" or mean 'Maa Nee , Maa Nee' - come here? I can't wait for further instalments from this ripping yarn.
  17. I wouldn't mind a pro in the nest every now and then.
  18. Umm - no it isn't! Sorry Mr Attenborough , but leeches do not have tentacles on their head . They also do not have a 'foot' - which slugs have (as does this thing) Leeches are molluscs, like snails and slugs , but bear a closer resemblance to worms. They also are more likely to move in a 'looper' fashion , using front and rear suckers. End of lesson.
  19. I prefer these bunnies too.
  20. I had a bit of a rant about a similar experience a few weeks ago. A vendor from HK sent me an item via DHL. They understated the value of the item - and I was fined for their indiscretion. It is up to me to try to get my money back from them! Fat chance!! Anyway - 3 weeks later. I had issues with the original item purchased , so needed to do further business with this company. Again - they understated value! Again they used DHL!!! OMG - I am a slow learner (but I can only buy this stuff from this vendor) . I received an email from DHL , asking me for proof of value (receipt - not invoice). They said that this was needed for customs.valuation in case of 'random inspection'. Surprise surprise - my item was inspected by customs in their 'random inspection'. So now I have to pay duty,VAT & a fine to customs , and a handling fee & storage fee to DHL I let DHL know my displeasure , and contacted the vendor - who will now use Thai special line logistics for future shipments to LOS. I have had 5 items sent from various countries to me by DHL this year - every one has been inspected by customs , & additional fees have been payable to DHL in every case - this is hardly 'random inspection' . IMO this is collusion. I am not that lucky. I know Liverpool Lou will have an answer for this , but TBH - I could not give a rats rectum for his thoughts.
  21. Very pretty car - and IMO quite well priced if you can get a 2-3 year old low mileage example. Even new , it compares well against the 4mill I paid for my Cayman. Coming from rural Australia, I think the roads in Thailand are generally quite good. (It is the other vehicles on the road that is the bigger problem - bikes, dilapidated old pick-ups etc - and so many people who have no idea how to drive). As for the haters, and naysayers here - don’t listen to them! They will never understand that buying a car is often an emotional, rather than a ‘common sense’ decision. If you have the wherewithal to get one - do it!
