  1. I think you are just being argumentative. 'Once a millionaire, Marcus entrusted his wife with his retirement money after selling a townhouse' Meh... Whatever.
  2. The man is an Australian. He wants to return to Australia. If he said he was a millionaire - I think it is safe to assume he is referring to Australian dollars , and not Thai Baht! Even You would be a millionaire in India, with Rupees.
  3. The Australian pension is means tested. The story states that he had been a millionaire - so he would not have qualified for the Aged pension. Also - if he has been resident since he was 65 - no pension here . He would have to be an Australian resident for 2 consecutive years before receiving a pension - and stay another 6 months in Australia, after being granted a pension - before he could "carry" the pension to Thailand. As a self funded retiree here in LOS - I feel for this guy. This could be me if I live too long!
  4. How about commenting about the subject? But you would rather troll people you do not know... Some people are so brave when they are incognito hiding behind their keyboard. Good work bozo.
  5. If you feel that her quality of life has gone - it is kinder to let her go. I have faced this situation countless times - with my own animals, but mainly with my patients. It would be interesting to know what the diagnosis was. (I expect renal failure). I am not a fan of the 'Thai way' of letting nature take its course - I think it extends the suffering in many cases. If you can find a vet who will euthanise her, that would be preferable.
  6. I like the Chang shirts - but I would never drink the beer!
  7. wow! Tony is no longer an ex-con. Now he is a celebrity!
  8. Kudos to the OP - he puts a lot of time and thought into his posts. But... If he was trapped in a cave - I would definitely not (in the words of Leon Russell) - "roll away the stone"
  9. Good play by the orange dude. Thailand was initially slapped with a 36% tariff* (=trade deficit penalty) Now a 19% penalty (paid by US consumers) seems like a bargain. All of this to save/develop non-existent US manufacturing.
  10. I think such a small lawn mower would be hard to find anywhere. Anybody requiring a 12 inch cut would most likely use a brush cutter/whipper snipper/line strimmer with a 12 inch steel blade. 4-6 K for a Hyundai 4 stroke, up to 10 for a Honda, and much less for other Chinese models. Lawn mowers are not very popular in Thailand - and are very expensive if you do find one.
  11. What a palaver these extensions can be! I am glad (and realise that I am very fortunate ) that I have a Thai Privilege visa . The 90 day reports are annoying, but these extension experiences would drive me crazy!
  12. I have 2 Krungsri bank accounts - one from Pattaya, and one in my home town. That makes it simple to transfer between accounts if required. My K-bank account was frozen because of this. I had to go to AIS to 'change' my SIM details - the number remains the same , then I had to return to the my K-bank branch to get my account reactivated - no problem!
  13. what a tosser.. "Of course, you realise this means war..."
  14. While I understand copyright infringements, and theft - I think that it must be said that many people (especially tourists) want to buy these copy items. 2000 Baht for a fake designer handbag vs 100,000oBaht for the 'original' item - it is a no-brainer for me! I bought my wife a Louis Vuitton bag - she already had a copy. The 2 are very hard to tell apart (almost indistinguishable to me!)
  15. This is true. However you are reading news curated for foreigners - so of course this will be presented to you. What you don't see is the mainstream Thai news, with most of the misdemeanours/crimes being perpetrated by Thai citizens. The likelihood that a high proportion of crimes in Thailand are committed by foreigners is low. There are bad people everywhere in the world.
  16. May I suggest you buy yourself a sense of humour? It makes the world a bit less depressing.
  17. Suggesting a pair of concrete boots? Too much?
  18. Thanks for this info , but I always specifically look for Asics shoes, because they are the only brand I have found that are kind to my dodgy feet! Back in the day, Brooks were good too.
  19. I buy my size 13 Asics shoes on-line from the Asics Thailand store. Very limited options for sizes above US size 10 - but there are some there. I have found NO regular sports stores, smaller private jobs or the stores at Robinsons or Central that have 13s in stock!
  20. Things change! 12-14 years ago the Aussie was up to $1.12US , now only just over half that.. The AUD is a small player in financial markets.
  21. No . I am referring to Ford F150 trucks , which are made in thew USA, not the Thai produced Ford Ranger. I have no idea what the F150 company that you are referring to is.
  22. Ummmm Yes. There is no car production in Australia now, aside from a few companies doing LHD to RHD conversions on US trucks like Dodge Ram, Chev Silverado anf Ford F150s.
