  1. as we say here - 'up to you'. All i know is that my life is so much simpler here in Thailand. (and I don't have to put up with a welcome to country for absolutely everything I want to do - which unsurprisingly made me feel very unwelcome!!)
  2. mmmm. bad luck he is no longer with us. i would have been happy to donate to his go fund me for shooting lessons. too much? sorry , not sorry
  3. Total Nanny State! This is part of the reason why I left Australia - my birth country , and the land I love Thailand feels like Australia was 50 years ago. By the time Thailand 'catches up' - I will be pushing up daisies - so no problem...
  4. All of the above - except dinosaurs - but I have done (and still do) treat many snakes. This was in rural Australia.
  5. Many of the posters here are very quick to attack the competency of the medical staff involved here. If a patient is presented with a possible snake envenomation, it must be observed for clinical signs, and blood tests must be performed. Antivenom is not ever administered to patients that do not exhibit symptoms. This is because there is a high likelihood of anaphylaxis or reaction to the antivenom. Where the first hospital erred here is by not admitting the patient for observation - but maybe the patient wanted to go home? I have treated many hundreds of snake bite cases ( most were successful) - although my patients were animals. This added to the diagnostic dilemma because my patients could not tell me when or where or if they had been bitten!
  6. Depending on the bite site, signs of envenomation can take several hours to appear - as has happened in this case. It is not unusual to have normal blood results for the first hour or more after a bite. After this any neurological or haematological changes will become apparent - eg breathlessness, blood clotting disorders. With the benefit of hindsight - the patient should have been admitted for observation, although I would have thought it would have been stressed that he needed to be observed at home. As it was confirmed he had been bitten - it must have been assumed to be a 'dry bite' - ie no venom was injected. Time showed this not to be the case.
  7. I am retired here. I have a Krungsri Platinum Visa card , 200 k limit. I use it for Lazada/Shopee purchases , and insurance payments mainly. I do not use it when I have to pay a surcharge. In Australia, I used credit cards for everything, and received good benefits, and frequent flyer points. The benefits of my Thai card is minimal. I always pay my card off each month - so never have to pay any fees. There is no annual fee for this card. My Australian cards - although giving me some perks, always had a not unsubstantial annual fee.
  8. This would be fantastic if it actually happens!
  9. I can guarantee that this King Cobra will not 'attack' and eat your wife, daughter and most likely not be interested in your dogs. Cobras (like most snakes) are not aggressive, rather they are defensive. They will only threaten you if they feel threatened themself. A big snake like that is easy to see - just give it a wide berth and everyone can co-habit happily. It is probably benefitting you living there - as King Cobras are known for mainly predating on other snakes. If you feel that the area is not big enough for you all - may I respectfully suggest you contact a local snake-catcher or similar to catch this snake so it can be safely removed and repatriated to a less popiulated area.
  10. Wow! With so many cats, maybe you could spare a few to feed the poor king Cobra, rather than decapitating him? The large cobras generally prey on other snakes - so do not pose much threat to you or your cats - unless you or they deliberately annoy or attack the snake.
  11. Ha Ha. I must live near you I think. I live in the Bahn Farang!
  12. Poor guy. Just riding along mining his own business. His monkey started to misbehave. He did the responsible thing - parking his motorcycle He then gave the monkey a good spanking. and now he is an internet sensation...
  13. Easter is not so much a religious ceremony in Australia these days - just a 4 or 5 day holiday. It is a commercial event - loved by chocolate manufacturers. The major Supermarkets start selling Hot Cross Buns in late January - hardly any religious significance then! Now - living in LOS - I hear nothing of Easter, and do not miss it at all. I would like a bit of decent chockie though.... 555
  14. Australian politics is not interesting, and the governance of Australia has minimal impact on the world stage. When I lived in Australia, I lived in a rural area - and as the bulk of the population live in the major cities - my vote would have no meaning on the outcome. I had no impact when i lived there, and have no impact now, living in Thailand. However, the Government has no impact on me now - so, Care Factor 0
  15. R20s will just give you a firmer , and probably noisier ride. i am over that <deleted>!! Lol my previous Ranger was a 2020 Raptor, and I went crazy customizing it. Big front and rear bars, custom lights and super wide 21s all around. Why did I do it? Because I could! In Australia, you can do very little in the way of modifications. it looked great. Would i do it again? No. The ride quality and noise from the wide tyres was horrendous!
  16. Yes - they are fine in a straight line. Not noisy, and quite a comfortable ride. Just make sure your front wheel alignment is correct. I tend to wear my tyres out more quickly than average because I like to corner quickly. I always wear the outer shoulders of my tyres (on all tyres- irrespective of price level) more quickly. Sometimes you just can’t take the idiot boy-racer out of the man….
  17. All of you arm-chair experts are so annoying! So holier than thou! Yes - it may have been alcohol related , it may have been drugs, spiked or self administered, he could have aspirated and choked on his own puke. Whatever!!! But can we please agree that this is a sad outcome - and leave the diagnostics and pontifications to the experts? Thank you
  18. The KO3 T/As are not as aggressive or Off Road spec as the Mud Terrain T/A KM3s - the Mud Terrain are much noisier on road. In my experience, another benefit of the BFGs is that I can easily get 50K ks from a set, whereas i struggle to get 30K from 'cheaper' tyres. (Disclaimer - I am VERY hard on my tyres!! Corners were made to enjoy!). The only issue is that they can feel 'hard' for the last 10,000 ks.
  19. I recently replaced my origunal spec GoodYear Wranglers on my Ranger. They were okay as road tyres, but not great grip, and 'chirping' every time i did a U-turn, or even when I turned a corner! I put a pair of Maxxis on the front a few months ago, because one of the original GoodYears developed a bulge on the side wall (after 12,000Ks). These were cheap, and had even less grip than the GoodYears!. In work mode back in Australia, I always ran either Coopers or BFG. I eventually stopped Coopers because I was getting too many punctures. I bit the bullet here, and put a set of BFG AT ko3 265/65/18 s on. It was the best move I have made for a long time! They are quiet , have good grip - on and off road - and they look great on the car too. Those raised white letters are good for at least another 25 horsepower - lol. Not cheap, at 34k for 4 - but totally worth it for safety and peace of mind. if you want some slightly used Maxxis - they are slowly rotting behind my shed!
  20. .How does the world look, through your orange coloured glasses? No chance of any common sense or impartiality shining through apparently.
  21. Like Corporal Klinger in MASH - send me home please, I don't want to play!
  22. I think you are grandstanding here. Dr Tom is correct here IMO. If I , or some othere family member was to depart in such a manner - the survivors would regard this as ridiculous reckless behaviour - hardly a tragic, or unexpected outcome.
  23. You don't want to mess with big Pharma! They control the show.
  24. I understand your concerns - but - the incongruity is that regular cigarettes also cause ALL of these ‘harms’ - and yet they are legal. It is obvious to me that the biggest concern with regards to vaping is the lack of government control, and revenue.
  25. I have been a bit of a gym junkie for the last 30 years. In my early 60s. i have a decent home gym - do a 2 hour full body workout (okay , I never have legs day..) every second day. Plenty of aerobic exercise around the farm. I am bigger and stronger than I have ever been!
