  1. That was my thought also. Is this a "thing" in Thailand now or the idea of a sixteen year old addicted to third rate TV action movies?
  2. I get a blood panel every time I go to the government hospital, I think usually about 900 baht, but don't quote me as my wife handles most of that. If she is in charge I wind up going every couple months indtead of every couple years, if left to my own geriatric, diabetic devices.
  3. I had a cpap device when living at 2000 meters. Don't need it here near sea level and use my asthma prevention inhaler as directed. Also my wife will "thump" me if snoring too much.????
  4. I had a Burmese lady friend in college who did this for me a couple of times, but she was very petite and I was very strong. Wouldn't chance it at 68, unless something like the thirteen year old daughter of a masseuse I used who was training specialy to massage infants. I think I could manage a twenty five kilo kid walking on me. Thinking about the chiropractor I used to go to who had hands about the size of Smithfield hams; best practitioner ever.
  5. Who said anything about "without due process"? Make it a criminal offense, similar to Nazi regalia laws in Germany, and people wearing "colours" of known outlaw organizations can then be arrested, prosecuted, and subject to prescribed punishent. I think I know why he confessed to overstay; I believe "considerable evidence" implies drugs, which could lead to a death sentence in LOS, usually commuted to life imprisonment, but I suspect he'd prefer the accomodations in a US or Kiwi prison.
  6. Could be easily inferred from the relatively frequent reports.
  7. OP states he was " caught with plenty of evidence", i.e. crimes committed on Thai soil.
  8. Mine is actually direct deposit to my Bkk bank account via their NY branch. I believe they charge me $4.00 a month, and change to baht at the day's buy rate. About $50.00 a year and no hassles. I see a bunch of complicated stuff on their website about deposit accounts and transfering into your savings account, etc. I arranged the US end via the SS dept. at the Manilla Embassy and went with my wife to our local branch of Bkk. Bank. My SS is automatically transferred to my savings each month and I can transfer, use the ATM, etc.

    Baht bus prices

What's with the "boomer" bit? I am a boomer as in the post WWll baby boom. Doesn't affect my usage of songteaws. Great drivers from Bang Sare would sometimes back down my street to pick me up if they saw me hobbling along with my cane. 30 baht to ride to Pattaya bus station. Only reason I don't use them now is I have moved to Bang Pli and haven't figured out the routes yet, and my wife would prefer to drive me.
  10. Great, thanks. Just as I do, direct deposit of SS funds to Bkk bank, and they do show as foreign origin. I was pretty sure that was what the IO said on our last trip to Samut Prakan immigration, but my wife can be a worry wart (not without reason; I have "screwed the pooch" a couple times in the past).????
  11. Wouldn't that be "bag slap", like the "fish slapping" skit in Monty Python?
  12. Has anybody used the income method for financial proof on a marriage extension utilizing bank book and statement from the bank? Don't understand the embassy recalcitrance, as in Costa Rica for example you can get proof of SS income at the US embassy in San Juan. As the IRS and US Embassies are both under the executive branch <deleted> can't they communicate in the same way? Ludicrous IMO.
  13. Good on you. You are "your brother's keeper." I've not much use for Christianity per se, but there are some great notions in their and almost everybody's scriptures.
  14. I watched Note's performance and wondered when someone would get after him. I thought it would be the authorities, but it seems Thailand has its version of MAGA as well.
  15. From Siam legal: Bank letter stating that the money had been deposited to the account from an overseas source for not less than 2 months.
  16. Addendum: just had a delicious meal of bean thread noodles with plenty of veggies and chunks of white meat chicken. 50 baht delivered. Compare to 280 baht for a McDonalds meal. Fancier joints I plan on 1,000 baht/head.
  17. Sadly that income would not satisfy imigration requirements unless married to one of the pretty girls. I think he could get by, especially with no rent to pay but a retirement visa does require either 800,000 baht in the bank or proof of 65,000 baht monthly income. If you are in a position to loan him the balance of the 800,000 for a couple of months each year I think it is doable.
  18. I find it pretty affordable compared to the US. Decent meal can be had for about $3.00 near me in Samut Prakan, if willing to eat like a local. A day at hospital with EKG and consultation with cardiologist who arranged with a manufactuter's rep. to come and adjjust my pacemaker day before cholecystectomy, tb3,000, or about $80.00. Pretty cheap in my experience. Good thing I don't drink much which would up the ante quite a bit.
  19. Longest I've been in a Thai hospital is six days. Government hospital, so only about $1,000 all in. Interested to see what the tab will be when my gallbladder comes out in Dec.
  20. I sometimes after an argument will walk the mile and a half to Lotus for an ice cream cone. Never thought of robbery as a solution.
  21. Would love to encounter one but even more wish not to disturb.
