How do they count 30 days exactly?
Kwaibill replied to sallecc's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I did make that mistake once while doing “ border bounces “ and had to pay an overstay fine( 1,900 baht?). -
Not doubled quite, but 60% higher. Running the ACs much more.

Turkish man assaults Pattaya restaurant worker, leaving him in a coma
Kwaibill replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
I can’t imagine this fellow was too dim to see what was happening around him. Did they check his alcohol level? There are going to be a few bad actors in every crowd, regardless of nationality, etc. My wishes are for good recovery on the part of the victim. If possible his assailant should certainly be held financially responsible. -
Resort Owner Shocked As Power Bill Soars Over 700,000 Baht
Kwaibill replied to webfact's topic in Eastern Thailand News
A singular element to the problem is that most do not understand how AC works. Most think that setting at coldest setting will cool the area more quickly. Not how it works. Just makes the compressor run longer. Also, as mentioned earlier, Thai attitudes towards maintenance are a little scant, it seems. ( I am very pleased that my wife takes her car in regularly, as I am no longer able to do much in that department.) -

Your “ source “ is Fox News? ???? -
I have been the “ landlord” for over thirty cats at the same time! ( I only brought one spayed kitten with me, and adopted one that was attacked by a neighbors dog.) Of course I had thirty acres of prime AZ desert, and two litter boxes for the indoor crowd. The rest were content with the outdoor “ cat house” or one of the three outbuildings. There seems to be an efficient “ jungle telegraph” involved for crazy old cat people, as more and more kept showing up. They never seemed to bother my hens, and really didn’t disturb my gardens much. Not a rodent to be found on the place, and several were “ pals “ with my beagles and horses. I can’t keep any now because “ cat scratch fever” really is a thing, and it seems you are susceptible once you’ve had one bout; missing half a big toe due to sepsis/gangrene from a neighboring cat bite here in LOS.

Opposition builds to the magic of Khaosad 420 on World Cannabis Day
Kwaibill replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Almost straight out of “ Reefer Madness”, IMO. A good friend of mine managed to earn a PHD in analytical chemistry ( one of the most rigorous academic pursuits) while huffing pot on a daily basis. Should I then advocate it’s use for all students? A singular outcome either way is not a logical basis for societal decision. Far more pot heads have not experienced the “ gateway” effect than have, I believe. It is no longer appropriate for me, nor more than about one beer a month, though a close relative retired a multi-millionaire despite being sloshed almost daily by 15:00. Sadly Darwin has an oar in this boat. -

Very parallel thoughts. I remember seeing the folks lined up for food. I also remember tough times as a child. I also lived near an LDS town in AZ. I had a bunch of their canned goods in my “stash” in addition to what I bought at the grocery or put up myself. I have (had) a root cellar/ bunker dug into the side of the hill. About 3,000 gallons water storage plus rain water catchment system, even a couple of drums buried where only I knew. A library of seeds. Several months of my prescriptions. Declining health made it impossible for me to live alone and at that altitude, plus I fell in love with my dear wife while visiting here for a research project; ” I couldn’t leave her if I tried.” My current interest is connected to the threat by the Magidiots to crash the US economy, plus I just like having food available ( “Mommy, I’m hungry!”! Leaves an indelible mark.) So yes, I think you could say I was a serious prepper, for the short term at least. Hard to make my wife understand the idea when she believes she will always be able to “pop out” and buy whatever. She had a pretty good job for many years around Bkk, while I experienced real hunger as a child, and survived on the streets during a US recession in the seventies.

Besides which our current freezer is about the size of two shoe boxes. I would prefer to can fresh, make no sugar added jam, etc.

I’ve been hanging around for seventy. Four known cardiac events, three strokes requiring hospital, and a number of fractured ribs due to falls. I won’t count my Covid episode because that seems somewhat unparticular about age. Oh, and had to have gallbladder out. Diet is a huge factor, and living in LOS has helped in that dept., as cheese and beef are not so common. I use olive oil as much as possible and oat porridge most days for breakfast… hoping to harass my darling for another twelve or so years.????

Back “ home” I used to get them cheap at thrift stores. I am somewhat of a “ cheap Charlie”, especially as mama San wants to buy a house.????

I am approaching it more from the hobby angle, but also somewhat because my dear wife likes to let things run out before she buys again; I am currently house bound due to a stroke.

I am not one, really, but lived “ off grid “ with a sixty mile round trip on any direction for food, water, etc. so became pretty practiced at baking, canning, etc. , to try and keep the number of trips down. I also qualified for local food banks and scored some good hauls; e.g. one time there were bags and bags of USDA prunes that nobody seemed to want. I put up twenty odd pints. Anyway, I have these “ hobbies”, but there does not seem to be much Thai interest in such. I do bake my own multigrain bread, in part because I can taste the sugar in most available Thai brands ( I’m diabetic) and I like knowing what is in other foods as well. I don’t envision a big production, but if anyone can point me in the direction of, particularly used canning gear ( jars, etc. , don’t have to be Mason ) I would be most appreciative. I was a bit disappointed last year when we saw some good buys on strawberries while north, but could only bring home what would be used in a few days. If I had jars I could have put up “ no added sugar” jam.????

USA Stamp Collection - what is the best venue to sell them here?
Kwaibill replied to DudleySquat's topic in General Topics
I had some luck posting individual, rarer stamps on EBay. Gets international exposure. If there are any truly exceptional items an auction house, e.g. Sothebys, is the only way to go. -
To the Trumpophiles claiming, in his own words, a “ political witch hunt”, how do you explain the indictments coming from a jury of Trump’s peers? It is a criminal indictment. “ If you can’t do the time don’t do the crime”. Trump first came to my notice when he and his father were convicted of racist housing discrimination in the early 70s. No BS plea deals likely this time. around.

Heat stroke is no joke. Even the U.S. Army acknowledges special considerations when temperatures and humidity exceed effective temps above 38 degrees Celsius. In such conditions in Fort Bennington we were required to strip to tee shirts, unblouse our trousers from our boots, sit in shade, and drink one half canteen of water per hour. They got tired of losing expensively trained recruits.
