Ex-Secret Service agent reveals new JFK assassination detail
DaLa replied to Social Media's topic in World News
My understanding / study was that particular bullet wasn't all that magic (due to the slope of the highway etc) and it wasn't the fatal one. The fatal shot was the last one that only hit Kennedy. There were 3 shots identified by sound and impact ( the first hit a kerbstone a long way down from the target). This report changes nothing in that respect. -
Ex-Secret Service agent reveals new JFK assassination detail
DaLa replied to Social Media's topic in World News
"This is really the most significant news in the assassination since 1963” is stretching the relevance of this to the extreme. I’m going with Clint Hill on this one. -
How to handle Thai women becoming “attached” right away?
DaLa replied to ASEANTraveler's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I don't know whether sympathy is in order or congratulations. I don't have any advice either even though I've encountered the same issue. One lady started mentioning the word 'marriage' on the first day. I could be pleased that I come across as a decent person, but also sad to see that maybe there's a pot of desperation for some of these women. -
Sorry can't help with any recommendation of a maid, but would recommend giving them an ultimatum on cleaning the house themselves. I use to have student properties I let out years ago and agree, most girls are untidy, but they need to learn. What was funny is how in the first week of living in a property, the 4 girls would have a rota of jobs posted in the kitchen. After another week the rota was gone and the house became worse than a pigsty. Use the maid money on sending them to a Swiss finishing school, the nuns will sort them out.

Visited last April and May , very few people were wearing them. Bars and restaurants did not require any ID / proof etc, I didn't use public transport so can't comment , however I'm pretty sure there were no restrictions. 1 year later I bet even less people will be wearing them. Good luck, I'm following you in a few days, might wear a mask at Swampy, after that it's back to normal air intake.

Metallurgist here. Copper and Aluminium are quite apart on the galvanic scale. However they need an electrolyte for problems to emerge. 1. Why not use Copper throughout 2. If dissimilar metals are used enclose the connector to protect from oxygen and water 3. If using copper + copper don’t use an aluminium clamp. 4. Galvanise the Aluminium at the joint. You would need to be more concerned if it was Aluminium and Stainless Steel. Maybe the 18th Edition BS 7671 Requirements for Electrical Installations. IET Wiring Regulations will help with your decision.

CNN; The oceans just reached their hottest temperature on record
DaLa replied to Social Media's topic in The Green Forum
Thanks , I'm off for a swim. -
I’m in the KannikaP, dingdongrb, KhunLA , KhunBENQ camp on this one. However I disagree with the 12 characters. Assuming 60 characters (upper-lower-numerical) options 60*60*60*60*60 (ie 5 characters) typing at 1 character per second would take around 24 years to enter all the combinations.

Why is that ? Do you have a temperature or feeling ill maybe ?

UN warns against 'vampiric' global water use
DaLa replied to onthedarkside's topic in The Green Forum
What drought? I've been drowning in gloom and doom from various authorities / scientists/ government reports for years. Peter cried wolf anyone. -
I can't see the load being spread over 10 pillars being a concern. However your post (no pun) lacks any detail on the roof construction. 1.5mm ( I presume wall thickness) is only 10% of the design consideration. Triangulation and load transfer is the key. As always (bored of saying this) get 3 quotes, spend any savings on obtaining a structural design by an independent engineer. You only want to do this once so pay more now , save twice as much later.

NATO considering deployment of up to 300,000 troops on border with Russia
DaLa replied to onthedarkside's topic in World News
I would have thought 300,000 troops would send a clear message regardless of if they have enough ammo or not. There would be another 100 flights from Russia landing in Phuket full of 'tourists' that don't fancy the prospect of taking on an army that size. -
Now scientists say even 'ethical' porn is bad
DaLa replied to Social Media's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Purely observational (pun intended) and impossible to prove unless the respondents in the analysis are first asked the questions when they abstain completely from any porn, then the same questions repeated after they view porn for a defined time. Then you would have to compare the relationships over the course of the two periods to have a ‘firm’ (pun intended) conclusion. And no one tells the truth about this subject anyway. Personally I wouldn’t know as I’ve never viewed porn....... -

3 hours before the flight to check in is 09:00 , which is really a bad time to be on the road. My journey to Cha Am is never less than 2 and a half hours. That would give you a 6 AM start, however I would add another hour to that to be safe.

Probably just a phase she's going through. A bit harsh that, you need to give her a chance, she could eventually be a keeper.

I'm almost with you, certainly if the UK can defend its sovereignty of the Falklands then why not? My main question though is what does China expect to gain from 'claiming' the territory. I'm not that great a history buff to question China's interest in Taiwan, only that after WW2 the island was places under Chinese Governance. So at some point the Taiwanese had that 'forced' on them so on that basis it could be argued Taiwan should have the benefit of independence. Isn't politics such a wonderful contribution to humanity. FOOTNOTE...a nice country to visit, Taiwan that is.

New climate study raises alarm for Asian Megacities
DaLa replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Well experts aren't called experts for nothing. Talking of climate change , started to need the air con again here the last few days, but still can't see that happening by 9 o'clock tonight. -
Just remind me again what law the UK are breaking. Got it, not to aid genuine refugees. The UK government are being warned that they could be breaking international law by imposing a law that restricts others from breaking the law by entering the UK unlawfully. I spend a lot of time and money obtaining and conforming to the rules of entering another country and indeed also the one I hold nationality. My wife does similar. I am a firm supporter of regulated travel to another country be it either temporary or permanent. I have a problem with illegal activities. Maybe the UN could come up with an answer rather than siding with an illegal activity, maybe have a word with the other member countries that are part of the problem.

Internal walls can be 'structural' or not . If not the tolerances are quite generous and are dependant on the countries codes rather than the customers wishes and expectations. It's quite difficult to make it clear anywhere that you require a job to meet certain criteria which is frustrating; even more so here. In the west the tolerance is half and inch (12mm ish) over a 2.4 Metre lift. That's quite noticeable. I used to build houses, the groundworks contractor would say the brickies will put things right, the brickies would say the framers would put things right , the framers would say the plasterers would put things right and the plasterers would say the decorator would put things right. The decorator would suck air into his mouth breathe out, sigh and shake his head.
