  1. I recall at least 2 movies with that theme. It did not end well. Also reminds me of when I tried to pick up something in a night club once. It was live, lithe and unfortunately attached to a guy that was a cross breed of Al Capone and Reggie Kray.
  2. Agreed. I've been using LibreOffice for years and it has most of what the average user needs. Also will accept MS documents to work on and then save in MS format.
  3. We have a place down in Cha Am and use Rama 2 at least once a month. I have to agree with the other opinions that it’s hit and miss regards to traffic congestion. Personally I believe it gets better every time we go as the overhead work progresses. Wifey missed a junction (out of Nonthaburi) and rather than U turn she decided to head for Nakhon Pathom; only added about a day to the journey. The other alternative is taking the outbound Borommaratchachonnani Rd towards Phutthamonthon and then cutting into towards Amphawa floating market where Rama 2 quietens down considerably. That’s a slow road though. It will all be better soon, so long as Thailand doesn’t run out of concrete.
  4. I don't know most of the names of the bars there, however I was there Friday last, busy as ever and looked like 90%+ of the venues now open.
  5. I don't know the name of the place , second bar up soi cowboy on the lhs next to Country Road bar. Small venue, but sensible prices on drinks and the band do great covers.
  6. Didn't take long for the structural failure of Champlain Towers South condo to disappear from peoples memories. It's not new structures that concern me , walk around NY and witness scaffold at street level to protect pedestrians from windows that are falling out of multi storey buildings built 40 years and more ago.
  7. plenty of opportunity to partake in that sport here, so I've heard.
  8. That's the theory. Makes it 'that much harder for the would be hacker', sometimes makes it impossible for me to access my bank accounts.
  9. Plenty of restaurants in los like this, or is it this particular 'dish' you want? My guess is she's the owner and will more likely be shopping in EmQuartier than working in the kitchen when you finally track the restaurant down.
  10. 4 or 5 other girls , That's 6 at 500 baht a pop so 3,000 baht. Wow, seriously rich.
  11. Better English than most TickTockers though may I say. I’m 69 and thankfully I have only been in hospital 3 times in my life; understanding a Thai (or any other nationality) doctor’s English isn’t the only problem. I’m useless at describing my symptoms and on all those 3 occasions I just go with the flow. I have to believe they know what they are doing (to the best of the knowledge they have) and have my best interests to heart. On those 3 occasions I haven’t even been in a state that allowed me to make rational decisions. One other point to consider when using an interpreter in Thailand. The Oxford Dictionary has 273,000 hardwords in it. The Thai equivalent has 2,864 words.
  12. Even in central Bangkok at Siriraj the level of communication in English was patchy. I’m not certain it would be any better in a private hospital. Absolutely correct regarding documentation. I was admitted straight into ICU. However only after completing a form ( granted it was in English) and for some crazy reason they wanted my parents first’s names. Unless those first names were on that form I was a dead man walking.
  13. Apologies, this doesn’t answer the op’s post but you are absolutely correct. I’ve just been in Siriraj hospital Bangkok with Pneumonia, and had to leave most of it to the Thai wife. Interpreting, paying for treatment, feeding me, staying overnight to make sure I didn’t escape. Especially letting the doctor who wanted me to move to another hospital because ‘they were very full’ know I wasn’t going anywhere. But is that any worse than going to 3 different private hospitals , receiving 3 different diagnoses and then receiving a bill double the original quote. 12k baht to come out alive from a government hospital is good value in my book.
  14. I started with aches and pains 3 months ago. I was tested for covid and was negative. A few weeks later I had a cold, then pneumonia, then a really bad cold. I have been through all the symptoms you’ve described and have started to return to full health. Usually I recover after a week , so all I can suggest is give it time and think positively. I still have no clue what the difference is between cold symptoms and C-19 symptoms, or any other symptoms that overlap. Complicated and never resolved after 25 years + of having permanent mucus in my nasal cavities. Permanent to a point where I’m gasping for air on occasions when it hits hard.
  15. Limited skill set unlikely to get a visa for most countries. Only suggestion I could possibly think of is in a Thai restaurant in a relatively wealthy country. Not sure the waiting list won't be extensive though.
  16. This is my personal experience. Usually it costs in the region of 70-75% of a return ticket for a one way ticket. I book the return and then pay the change fee when I have my return date planned. Emirates at one point due to C-19 restrictions on their operations waived the change fees which saved me around £600. The other alternative is to pay extra for a 'flexible' ticket. One of the problems with booking the return 'when you are ready to' is that prices can go up due to demand closer to the date you travel. Final piece of advice relevant to this post is to email the airline and get them to give you a written reply to the Q 'do you insist...'
  17. It's useful for multiple visits. My wife and I would return to the UK for 2 to 3 months then back here for 3-4 months. You save a huge £23 (ish) on fees but it saves all the palaver of having to complete new applications. An application form of 15 pages where most of the information has already been submitted on the previous application.
  18. My 'wife' has been to the Uk 15 times. Some airlines ( we use mainly Emirates ) raise this question. They are not 'experts' in every countries immigration rules. I keep a copy of the relevant details from UK immigration with me. It's not a requirement. The fact she has a 2 year visa says a lot. She won't have received that without a good deal of vetting and assurance she will comply with the requirements (ie. to leave the UK within 6 months).
  19. Good value in my opinion. Two visits a night, picture on phone sent to my partners phone. Initials of visit in a note book that is in a post box at the entrance. What does £2000 a year council tax in the UK buy me ? Other than a mountain of bureaucracy trying to run my business.
  20. I (we) run an export / import business and would return to the UK to buy stock for 2 months, then ship it here and spend the following 4 months selling the stock. That accounts for the 4 visits, although on occasions we were able to get 2 visits out of one 6 month visa. I was unable to claim any business relief due to Covid or claim any of the compensation forthcoming to the masses in the UK on furlow. My subsequent Self Assessment's for the next few years are going to register every last penny I spend from now on.
  21. My wife had 15 previous 6 month visas for the UK so the 2 year multi was automatically acquired. There was very little 'financial' benefit as opposed to applying for the equivalent in single visas , however the process meant we didn't have to go through the routine of completing a new application ( with all the exact same detail ) 4 times. She applied and received the visa shortly before the Covid-19 restrictions came into force and was only able to use it once in the following 2 years. NO refund, no extension, no grace from the UK Home Office. Conclusion, waste of time and money.
  22. I’m often left wondering how the promoters of the big name acts arrive at the seat prices: Cheapest tickets in Melbourne Australia 2,500 baht, average weekly wage 45,000 baht per week Cheapest tickets Bangkok 4000 baht, average weekly wage 25,000 baht per week. I stopped going to top sport fixtures and concerts after paying £ 125 a ticket 20 years ago to see the Stones. Plenty of good bands and other entertainment (!!) available here in LoS without paying for someone’s inflated lifestyle. Having said that the Stones were good. PS. I’m sure I’ll receive plenty of corrections to the average wage figures I quoted. Median figures were different. They were the first ones of many lifted off a google search, which pretty much sums up the internet for you.
  23. I used to rent out houses to students back in my UK city. Those pictures are nothing to worry about. I also had 1 girl who asked if she could paint her room. 'Fine' I replied , 'just don't use too dark a colour'. Result, she painted the entire room BLACK.
  24. You should have bought her a dinghy and dropped her off in Calais.
  25. Worse than stupid, worse than mad, I'm struggling to find a suitable adjective. I will STOP at nothing to counter this crazy notion. In fact I'll pull out all the STOPS. That's the end of my message. All I have to say, FULL STOP. Period.
