  1. I know it. I bought one last week, but never again. It had a frothy texture and I found it very unpleasant to drink. Last week that was all my local 7Elevens were stocking and I visited quite a few. I didn't see it this week - maybe they've pulled it due to complaints.
  2. Unfortunately, he hadn't taken the time to research the recommended height for successful suicide jumping. Assuming the ground floor is level 1, then he's threatening to jump from a height of roughly 20 - 21 meters. A lot of people have survived a fall from that height, achieving a fate worse than death. Here's one notable example (fall from 25 m): University student breaks 110 bones in horror balcony fall
  3. Now that's a multi-tasking post if I ever did see one.
  4. Emergency savings that depreciated by an average of 32,500 baht per year over the last 20 years. The last 10 years were less dramatic, at only about 10,000 baht per year depreciation (not including 2023 in calculation).
  5. There's a nice calculator for this: 1,240,000 baht in 2023 is equivalent to 800,000 baht in 2003. Inflation calculator
  6. Not even a single mention of performance issues, as though everyone is ready to go at any time. This thread is loaded with boastful studs. No one can be honest? Limiting factors: 1. Equipment malfunction (ED, impotence, performance anxiety etc) 2. Lack of desire (libido) 3. Availability of partners who desire you, not ones you have to pay for. I'm not really interested in buying partners, so I strikeout on #3. I don't want to use performance enhancing drugs such as Viagra as they leave me feeling hung over for a couple of days (and they don't work so well), so I strikeout on #1, and there isn't a lot of desire especially due to having no partner so #2 is out the door. So how much have I had in about 4 years. Just under once a year average LOL. I'm not embarrassed about it and I don't care about it. I'm pretty much asexual these days. It's kind of liberating having the big head in total control all of the time. Are there any other honest people here or is everyone a stud?
  7. If this editorial was meant to be a relief to retired expats, it did a lousy job by adding at the end: OK, so don't worry about it today, you can start worrying in 6 months.
  8. I suppose you have a point. Your posts are usually one-liners of no substance... maybe you post while you doing the deeds.
  9. Why spend so much effort to stop an old guy who wants to end his life? It's his life - his choice, but... In this case, it seems he was more interested in creating a scene than actually jumping.
  10. At an average of 35 posts per day, how do manage to fit it in?
  11. I noticed all the 7Elevens in my area were selling a new label (2L) I haven't seen before. There was no English on the label, so cannot repeat it - it was a light blue label. I bought some, but found it unpleasant - it was frothy. In Big C extra on Sunday they didn't have the full fat Meiji, but other brands were fully stocked. If you're looking for a creamy treat, get the Thai-Denmark brand if you find it for sale. It's 5 baht more.
  12. Listening to all the expats moaning about how dishonest Thai policiticians are, you'd wonder why they ever left their home countries to live here when politicians back home are so honest. Where is that paradise?
  13. Foodpanda send me emails offering discount vouchers that cannot be applied to any food items on their menu: "sorry, that coupon cannot be used for this order" (or some similar phrase). I contacted support who don't have a clue. No explanations can be found even in the fine print of conditions. I didn't appreciate spam emails trying to get me to pay full price when a discount is offered. That put me off. One time they delivered my order to another address. Another time they hung my order on a motorcycle outside my front entrance without informing me, which I by chance found sometime later, stone cold, of course. Yet another time, in Bangkok, they could find a major hotel where I was staying (Holiday Inn Express) and it took an hour to inform me. There's no doubt in my mind that Grab is the superior service, the only problem being their limited English on the app vs Foodpanda.
  14. You made it! Your favourite topic - visa agents. How about you edit your comment to "I hope" as you don't speak for the rest of us.
  15. I'm also in the "don't smile at everyone" camp. It's best to maintain neutral facial expressions in public, just as most Thais do. That doesn't mean you have to look unhappy, angry or drepressed. Here's the one I'm referring to: ???? ???? ????
  16. I believe there is already a "grandfathering" for long term expats, still only requiring 400k for retirement extensions.
  17. Here's the relevant Pattaya News Quote: "As part of the efforts, Pol Gen Surachate promised that he would propose an amendment to the immigration law, especially concerning retirement visa extensions, through the police chief once a new government takes office. This aims to filter out bad people and make the law truly helpful for investors or someone who innocently want to live in Thailand."
  18. Maybe I should have mentioned Go go's as that is what I'm referring too. Here is why I think it June 1: Pattaya Bars get green light to reopen on June 1 I live in Pattaya and know that beer bars were open earlier than that. FYI, the mask mandate lasted until July 1.
  19. Even stranger that it seems forgotten that Pattaya bars were closed for over 2 years until June 1, 2022 (start April 9, 2020), and then only allowed to open to midnight. The industry hasn't recovered yet, not by a long shot, so the topic of what will open and close is a bit premature. Any bars which made it through the 2-year lockdown will still be in huge debt.
  20. I'm pretty sure you'd be a coward too, faced with prison time in Thailand vs living a life of luxury abroad. It's easy to talk tough on a forum.
  21. A friend did this last week. With a residency certificate included in the price, it was 25,500 baht + opening bank account 3,700 (4,700 if you're 65 or over). The actual agent was mentioned above. That's in Pattaya when you're actually there. I don't know about doing this in other provinces. I would not send my passport to anyone in the mail.
  22. I'm very sure I'm not mixing up different forms of intelligence. Rather than trying to blind everyone with science, I'm using the accepted dictionary definition. Let's call it "general intelligence" so there's no confusion. The type of intelligence that helps people to read and perform basic mathematical tasks. As usual, you are quick to suggest that a theory is 100% correct. Just as you suggested that smart-people are ALL athiests, or that they are invarilably atheists. You leave no room for debate with your bombastic assertions. The Flyn affect is still a matter for debate and research: https://www.simplypsychology.org/flynn-effect.html Is The Flynn Effect Reversing? I have no problem with the theory, but only with your assertion that it is 100% correct. Let's not rush to conclusions.
  23. I agree it's absolute nonsense that our teens are smarter than us. It has become public knowledge that in the USA, the land with the biggest intelligent population on Earth (according to them), a large percentage of kids at school can't read or do basic maths. Calculators didn't help. I've seen shop assitants in Thailand use a calculator to to multiply by 10 (can't remember the numbers exactly, but it was shocking). This is a high school graduate working in a 7Eleven. Apart from that 10x multiplication, they use calculators to do other extemely easy calculations - calculations that I find extremely easy, and my maths skills are probably just a bit above average in my age group of people who didn't have calculators at school. We used slide rules and log tables LOL. I think it's quite possible that excessive time on social media is rotting those young minds. They become more concerned about everyone else's lives than taking care of their own. Look this up on Google: Is there a literacy crisis in America? According to The Nation's Report Card, 37% of children in the U.S. are reading below a basic level. And what “below basic” means is that kids in fourth grade, based on the most recent NAEP assessment, are functionally illiterate. Almost 70% of low-income fourth-grade students cannot read at a basic level.
  24. And who said they weren't? The young ones will use Ed Visas. Did you know that Russians can stay on 30-day visa-exempt stamps and do unlimited border runs? Russia and Thailand have special visa arrangements, so they probably have visa options you've never heard of.
  25. No problem! Russians can learn English on an Ed Visa. All the schools offer English classes for Ed Visas. Some are offered online, so very convenient.
